Publisher's summary

Bonjour, my name is André Chevalier. It has been my joy and my great honor to help those who have lost their way. Not long after I began my journey, I met two such wounded souls.

Renata Koreman, my little mouse. She came to me as a child - shy, mute, injured...broken. It took oh-so many years to start to bring her back to herself! Yet, I could not fully heal her.

Years later, Grant Wilkinson, he too fell into my hands. The ex-Army Ranger was badly disfigured and saw himself as a monster. Isolated by secrets, solitary and self-contained, his colleagues affectionately named him "Frosty". Yet, how should one behave when besieged by a lifetime of confusion and guilt?

The moment I saw him, I thought of her and I wondered. The eyes, they cannot always see clearly. And the heart? Ah, the heart can only guess at the truth. So it was that I remained uncertain.

Could the mouse and the monster heal each other?

Difficult topic beautifully written

Speaking about abuse is never easy and when it's one of the major factors in a book I wonder if it will be handled well, in this case it is. It's hard to listen to, but it's also an important topic to acknowledge and to be aware of and this book covers it with care and compassion without shying away.

The characters are beautifully complex, damaged yet resilient, full or sorrow and hope.

It's also worth noting that there is a bit of a cliffhanger at the end, so you may want to have book two ready to go.

The narration is excellent, clear character voices, good accents and a delivery that was easy to listen to.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher in exchange for an honest review.

A MUST READ

Renata and Grant are perfect for each other. both have come from horrible pasts and have lingering struggles. André guides these two together to help each other heal. Pulling on heart strings, Renata helps Grant work through some of his sexual issues. The emotions run high in this book, as it dives into Grant's past abuse as a child. André always has a reason for his actions, and putting Renata and Grant together is no exception. I could not put this book down. I not only got lost in the story, felt every emotion of the characters, but I also had to jump right into the next book.

Robert Scarlato once again does justice to André. He brings out the tough exterior of Grant, as well as Grant's fears and insecurities. Robert narrates Renata exactly as I imagined her. André's nickname for her, fits perfectly and that is how Robert's narration portrays her. I enjoy Mr. Scarlato's narration.

Intense

Loved this listen! An intense and complex story with great characters, with plenty of unexpected humor. Does have dark subject matter, most of the characters are dealing with past abuse and are healing. Fantastic narrator who made each character unique. Highly recommend and will be looking into reading/listening to the other books in the series. I received a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Excellent!! Love it!

This book was way more than I expected it to be. Mr. Scarlato was such a great narrator for this book that while listening I could really get into it and follow along with these characters as they worked through their pain. Andre was such a patient and loving character who really knows how to help people. It was unbelievable to me, however, that a man that young could possibly be so knowledgeable and capable of all he accomplished with his patients and his career. That being said, his character was someone who could not help but get into your heart. Andre's therapy sessions were very good, fascinating and could actually help some listeners. All the characters in this book were wonderful and interesting in their own way. I am thankful for being given the opportunity to listen to this one. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Loved the book, love the audiobook!

I received this title for free in exchange for an unbiased review. I had already read the Abuse trilogy and loved it so jumped on the chance to listen to the audiobook. Story is great - raw, emotional, funny, sexy. The narrator is good although his voice sounds a bit like an announcer at times but this improves as the story continues. Was so disappointed when I realized this was only Book one. Can't wait for the next one!!

WOW, that was intense

Pretty intense and emotional listen, but I must say very enlightening in understanding her the abused victim feels and why.
The narrator did a great job, but it would have been ideal to have a female voice for a bigger impact to the whole storyline.

Abuse

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would. It is a story that I think is well written and worth giving a listen to.

Any additional comments?

The storyline was good and I enjoyed listening to it, but it's not really a story for me. I know it's one that will be enjoyed by plenty of other fabulous listeners!

Bravo for Roberto Scarlato

This isn't the telling of a story, in as much as it's like watching the struggles of two people being guided by our beloved Andre' Chevalier....
Renata Koreman, just a child really (18yrs) when she came to him, mostly broken from a childhood of neglet & abuse, both pysically and mentally. .She lived on the street and slept in cardboard boxes, ate from trash cans, to her it wasn't any different than living in foster care. Jamie, her foster brother, was her protector and best friend until one morning she woke to find Jamie dead beside her. Her Uncle Bob is called from a Psychiatric hospital about his niece where his friend , Doctor Jay Johson gives him Andre's name. "Uncle Bob" is willing to pay any amount to be rid of her....He is running for office and he certainly can't have this "embarrassment."
Andre' takes the beautiful but damaged little mouse and together, by the time Renata is 22 years old, she has a degree in Psycology and works as a Sexual Surrogate that recieves payment for her Therapeutic servies. She has has worked with many refered to her by Andre', but she wants someday to fall in love, have a home and children.
Grant Wilkinson, an ex-Army Ranger. He is badly disfigured and sees himself as a monster. He also carries around a lifetime of secrets and guilt that makes him isolate himself He is an alcoholic, as was his father who is now deceased. He left the Army on his 28th birthday and sought out Andre' Chevalier five months later. He was highly recommended as one who helps people with deal with PTSD, stress and sexual problems.....Now, we know how smooth Andre' is and his talent for getting to the heart of the matter, and so , over the coming months, sessions commence and Grant opens up with Andre's guidance and he speaks of the guilt & shame he feels for not protecting his younger brother when it started for him. His father committed the blackest of sins, but as a child, there was nothing he could do. In another session Andre' brings up women. He learns that Grant has no experience with women, they make him nervous, He has only had sex that he has paid for. Never a relationship...Andre', says "Mon ami".. his dark eyes shine with enthusiasm, "I have exactly the perfect woman for you"
Now don't go thinking that this is a boy meets girl kind of thing, they fall in love and live happily ever after......Oh hell no! there is so much more going on between the lines here and other people I haven't mentioned, on purpose. I never saw this coming, so you shouldn't either! There is so much more to come.....
I've read this book and I loved it, but I just have to say that I got so much more enjoyment from listening to the characters come to life and actually hearing Andre's sexy French accent is a true turn on! Somehow the characters develop further (in my opinion) when you "hear" and "feel" their emotions.
