Publisher's summary

Winner of the 2003 Lambda Literary Award for Fiction Anthology.

Showcasing the work of literary giants like Langston Hughes, James Baldwin, Audre Lorde, Alice Walker, and authors whom listeners may be surprised to learn were "in the life", Black Like Us is the most comprehensive collection of fiction by African American lesbian, gay, and bisexual writers ever published. From the Harlem Renaissance to the Great Migration of the Depression era, from the postwar civil rights, feminist, and gay liberation movements, to the unabashedly complex sexual explorations of the present day, Black Like Us accomplishes a sweeping survey of 20th-century literature.

the queer anthology we need

too often the stories of lgbtq people go unheard, unstated, unread- and within that paradigm the stories of our black queer sacred siblings heard even less. I am grateful for this collection that gives voices to a doubly underrepresented community

Good insight

The story is kind of slow but it gives off good inside reviews on the LGBT community and ways.

Beautiful writing, contextualizing, performance!

If you could sum up Black Like Us in three words, what would they be?

Nurturing, informative, and generous.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Black Like Us?

Listening to Hughes's Blessed Assurance was drastic and compelling.

Any additional comments?

I would like a visual accompanying text containing a table of contents with time marks for the audiobook. Because it is a collection of short stories and excerpts, navigating to specific excerpts is an obvious use for the book. Without a table of contents with time marks, navigating to a specific section is complicated and time consuming.
