About this listen

Book five of Wicked Play

It's been 20 years since Rockford Fielding's father punished him for kissing another boy. Now a grown man with a military career behind him, Rock continues to deny his true desires, even while working security at The Den, the most decadent sex club in town. But after a year of watching gorgeous Carter Montgomery come and go on the arms of other men, Rock can no longer resist the cravings he's denied for so long.

Carter has just four months left on his contract with an escort agency, and he doesn't know whether to feel relieved or afraid. Being an escort is all he knows. Adding to his confusion is the way his latest client, the sexy but stoic Rock, makes him feel things he hasn't wanted in years.

One charmingly awkward date turns into two and soon the men are meeting off the clock. But with Rock in the closet and Carter unsure how to pursue a real relationship, how can they build a future both in and out of the bedroom?

Sweet story

I really liked Rock and Carter. The narrator sounded nothing like an ex-military man. I guess it worked okay for Carter, but I pictured him more masculine as well. The delivery was good, the pace was good, just the tone threw me off.

Best in the series, so far!

This book was really touching. I love how the relationship develops at a natural rate; no insta-love. This book gives the reader/listener an up close and personal view of how homosexuals struggle with the stigmas attached to their sexuality. It addresses the external conflicts, and more importantly, the internal conflicts that homosexuals have to overcome to be able to be at peace. It also stresses how much acceptance from friends and family, is so critical. It also addresses the prejudices and unfairness laid upon those people whose sexual orientation is used to measure their overall worth. This book is a real eye opener and I feel anyone can benefit from experiencing this novel.

WOW!

I waited a long to buy this book. I've listened to all the others in this series. I'm sorry I waited so long.
I really didn't think I'd like a gqy man's novel, but boy was I wrong. The story is so well written. Dealing with all the struggle of society's views and coming out and how will your patents take it. The romance is hot!
I'm glad the author chose a male narrator for this story. He did a good job. I wished for a little more difference in the characters though. And, quite frankly, he sucked at the female voices, but there aren't that many in this book so it wasn't to hard to over look.
Great love story of learning who you are and what you want and how to trust.

Try it!

My favorite in the series

I have enjoyed this series, and am re-reading it now. I love the guys in these stories, but some of the women are a bit weak and at times clueless. Rock and Carter are both strong individuals, for sure with issues, but in the midst of working them out they still manage to be tender, hot, and strong.

I also thought Declan McKenna did a great job narrating.

A thoughtful coming out story of a military man

i love L.A's character development and that they are complex and yet brave. i absolutely love that her characters are full adults. Each subject she tackles, in this case adult shame of ones orientation, and the bravery it takes to present your authentic self gives me satisfaction. She writes amazingly detailed love/sex scenes that include the ridiculous things that happen in real life.
(wait till you get to the coffee beans, i have been that person.)

Nice surprise

This book was beautiful. It had lots of deep emotions and struggles. The narrator did a great job. I loved how the author brought everything together in end.

Great story, liked the characters

To be honest I only picked this book because it’s part of a series. It doesn’t have BDSM and the sex is MM, normally not my usual read. That said,

I loved the story and the relationship between two unlikely lovers. Their journey together is beautiful and heartfelt. I enjoyed every single moment!
(Most impressive scene: the photo shoot Rock initiated.)

Because this is an audiobook: the narrating is good and professional. I don’t think it gave that bit extra some narrators do to make me enjoy the story more, though.

Poignant Love Story

I was captivated by the love story between an ex-military soldier, Rockford, who has lived his life denying his true sexuality who meets Carter, a man trapped in the job as an escort because of the rejection of his family. Both men have suffered from society's prejudice against their sexuality.

These two men meet as Rockford discreetly hires an escort. Carter immediately recognizes Rockford as a socially awkward man who is fighting his own sexual needs. Carter gently guides Rockford to a better acceptance of his own needs while finding in each other a special kinship that soon develops into friendship and love. Along the way, we come to know each of these lonely men who have suffered because of their sexual orientation.

The book does a great job of developing these characters. It also serves as a reminder that love happens in many different colors and orientations. Why do people see a need to torture and punish people based on their sexual orientation when they are simply trying to love someone. I highly recommend the book for people who enjoy the transforming power of love.

surprisingly sweet

Yeah a sweet story of a call-guy and a closeted ex military. They shyly date and and get to know each other.
I haven't read the previous books, but this one isn't BDSM at all. We meet previous MCs but wasn't an issue not knowning them.
