Erotica as a Shakespearean comedy

Bottoms Up Bar and Thrill delivers eroticism along with surprisingly serious discussions of the nature of love, lust, self-worth and whether The One really exists for anyone, much less everyone. The narrator did a terrific job with all of the voices, and I really enjoyed listening to her deliver the story to us.

I normally listen to lesfic, and while there is lesbian action, there is much more of a focus on hetero activities.

MC Maxine was dumped by her fiance of six years, and her bff, MC Kendra, finally succeeds in getting her to move on. What better way to lighten up than to join a faceless sex club? Antics at the sex club were confusing, though. Somehow anonymous sex with faceless partners kept turning into people requesting their favorites...I never figured out how that tied in with anonymous.

Well, Maxine has fun with a member (heh heh), the member has fun with her, the club owner (Jason) has the hots for Maxine, Maxine has the hots for the owner, another member requests Maxine, and Maxine discovers that girls can be fun too, Maxine argues with her misogynistic boss and interviews for another job, and bff Kendra also likes Jason.

I kind of liked Kendra, though she certainly chose an interesting way of getting her love interest to notice her. I also kind of liked Maxine's path toward self-empowerment, but I lost lots of respect for her during one of the scenes with her boss.

Jason felt too artificial. Super rich, super handsome, runs a sex club, no longer believes in The One, he believes there are multiple soul mates for each person, and the closest to people can get is through sexual intimacy. Maxine disagrees, she still believes in a more spiritual bonding. Cleverly, she points out that they call it soul mates, not sex mates.

Eventually, as in a Shakespearean comedy, true motives, actions and feelings are revealed. Human nature being human nature, much anger and non-communication ensues. After all the manipulation and hurt feelings, I thought the ending was too tidy of a wrap up for these complicated, flawed characters.

I rate Bottoms Up Bar and Thrill as 3.75* for the story and the characters, 4.75* for the narration, and I recommend the audiobook with a 4* overall rating.

4 stars for the story and 3 1/2 for the acting.

Maxine's in a funk because of her dull intimate relationship with her previous fiancé. That's all about to change with a little persuasion from her best friend to join a faceless sex club. Just because things suddenly get spicy compared to what she had doesn't mean it won't get complicated. I enjoyed the writing, but felt the narrator acted the sexy parts to upbeat. The scenes could've been better if she used a sultry and seductive tone. Other than that I have no complaints. Not recommend for anyone who has issues with FMF manage. just OK

So, this was interesting and highly sexual. The whole concept of anonymous sex, in todays' day and age, is mildly terifying. I was a little dissapointed in the "intrigue" promised in the synopsis. Especially since it all gets wrapped up in a nice, tidy, bow in the last few minutes. The narration is OK. The words are read with inflection and emotion but there isn't much differentiation between characters' "voices." It wasn't so bad that I couldn't get through the whole thing, just not the best (or worst) I've ever heard. All in all, I felt this was mediocre.

Has its moments...

There were parts of this book that I found quite good and very erotic. There were other parts that would have had me climbing the walls, had I not been safely seat belted into my car while listening. The audio book was well written, and the sex club part of the story is certainly original, at least to me. I found the characters doing some things that just seemed, well, out of character, and which just didn't make sense to me, All in all, in the world of erotic audio books, I'd say this one lands somewhere in the middle. I have difficulty placing it.

I thought that Leigh DeSalles did a good job with the narration and the voices.

Different & exciting

I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review. I enjoyed the way the author built this story up from the beginning to the climatic end . Maxine the main players in this erotic adventure is hurting from a breakup . Her friend is wanting her to go out & enjoy herself & finally Maxine agrees & goes to a club with her friend . Its a sex club with a difference , the sex is totally anomyous . The players are faceless & only go by numbers allocated to them . Maxine has her favorites but still enjoys others including a female fun along the way . The story builds to its climax as Maxine discovers who the anomyous people behind the numbers really are . Very interesting concept a sex club where everyone is unknown & remain anomyous , the narrator did a wonderful presentation & has a very arousing voice . I hope to hear more from both the author & narrator .

Good Read

Bottoms Up Bar and Thrill was a good quick read by Giana DeSalles. Maxine joins a "faceless" club by the coaxing of her best friend. She joined after her break-up of her six-year engagement. She quickly enjoys the club but it turns her world upside down. I enjoyed reading this book and thought Leigh DeSalles did a good job of narrating.
