Publisher's summary

For centuries Dethan has been trapped in a fiery inferno for defying the gods and snatching the power of immortality. Condemned to have his battle-hardened body licked by flames only to regenerate and be consumed all over again, Dethan has lost all hope--until the goddess of conflict appears. She will release him from torment--if he'll use his power and strength as a warrior to raise an army and defeat a fierce enemy faction of gods. Free to live as a man once again, Dethan meets Selinda, heir to the throne of Hexis, and his thoughts quickly turn from the conquest of cities to the conquest of this headstrong beauty.

Betrothed to a cruel, calculating power monger, Selinda needs a champion, and so Dethan enters into another bargain: If she will share her bed--and her body--with him, Dethan will save her city from destructive forces within and without. As the lovers ignite a searing passion, Dethan will risk all, even the wrath of the goddess of conflict, for a chance to make Selinda his forever.

Contains mature themes.

Amazing narrator

Amazing narrator and great story overall, but the female character is vaguely pathetic. Thankfully, not pathetic enough to ruin the story.

Wonderful story!

Made the mistake of starting before bed....stayed awake until 3am, only getting 3 hours sleep before work.....I enjoyed the narrator and as another review stated it was like Russell Crowe was speaking in my ears 🤤🤤 can’t wait for the rest of the stories and thankful for the Romance package allowing me to devour books one after the other! 👏👏

Thor is that you!?

Well wow 😳 I was not expecting that. Roger Wayne sounds like Chris Hemsworth when Dethan speaks... Dang. He has a very nice voice to listen to, to begin with and then he does that. So great voice and narrating skills. Nice, it makes me excited to see how be does the other books.

The story is fast paced and feels way shorter than what it is. I enjoyed the book and the audio made it feel like I missed some of it. So this does have the rereading feel to it.

Nice Romance

As a bit of a feminist I rarely read books with weak female leads; however, even the strongest of women can relate to wanting someone to see the beautiful essence of who you are. In that respect I like the relationship between Dethan and Selinda because it’s apparent early on that she’s been abused. If we think about the accuracy of how a woman might behave in a time when women’s rights didn’t exist Selinda seems far more admirable. It was awesome seeing the growth of her character. The burgeoning passion between her and Dethan has a nice simmering buildup and the way they sacrifice for their love speaks to the romantic in me. Overall it was a good book and worth a credit if you don’t have the romance package (which all romance novel lovers should have LOL). I loved the use of the goddess and the way it’s woven into the plot. Well done Jacqueline Frank!

Love the story and the narrator

Loved the story and the narrator makes the Male character sound like Thor from the movies. I was in tears at the end. can't wait for the next book.

Nice start to new series.

Story line was good, and should keep you interested to the end. Good amount of action, and you identify with the hero. There is, as always, someone in the story you will find yourself wanting to kill. We do get our HEA by the end and you will be glad of it. There is abusive behavior that I found myself unable to except, but that to worked itself out by the end of the book. I am looking forward to the next installment of this series.

Mythology

This is definitely a story that reminds me of the tales from Greek or Roman Mythology. There is a Hero that has been cursed by the Gods for committing a sin against them. There is a great task to be accomplished. There is a sacrifice made in the name of love. There is a lesson learned and, thank gosh, a happy ending. If you enjoy the tales from mythology, you will enjoy this novel.
The narration is flawless.
The only concern would be if the listener is very sensitive about physical and mental abuse against women; there is much of both throughout the book. The situation is resolved at the end but it is upsetting. Worth a credit? I think so.

Yes! Yes! Yes!

I loved this book.... The hero & heroine were flames but each saw the other as perfect. Definately a big shift from her Nightwalker series but in this new world she has once again invented... Once you start, it's just too darn hard to stop

This is my second male-narrated book & I will say it was a splendid choice for this series! I can't wait for next book!
