About this listen

Eric Yang is 32, a combat veteran of the Saudi War, and a student at Denver University (DU). His goal was to reintegrate back into society. His service freed him from the mistakes of his past. His dedication pushed him to achieve more from life even with his disabilities. While not all scars from war are visible, Eric was given a cybernetic arm that even scientists in 2032 considered futuristic.

An isolated semester at DU is disrupted by his doctor's dire warning. The asteroid barreling toward Earth is an alien spacecraft with hostile intent. Eric scrambles to plan, consolidate, and form his team while the rest of an oblivious society is prevented from accessing vital information.

A fun series and a great listen

Marcus Sloss did an excellent job with this series I really enjoyed it. The characters were interesting and believable and only got better as time went on. I will admit that the beginning was a little slower than I am used to but that does change and I am glad I stuck with it because it is an excellent series. Jack Douglas and Alexa Roosevelt both do an amazing job narrating this series and bring all of the characters to life. I recommend this series and at just over 48 hours its a great listen for a credit.

Good read for men

It was very entertaining.
Having a long minimum word requirement to leave a review is stupid

Fantastic

Absolutely fantastic series. Amazing depth, characters, and struggles in a military/alien invasion/dystopian adventure.

The narration duo did an amazing job keeping the story moving and keeping you wanting to know more.

Sci-Fi with Steam = Guilty Pleasure

This has to be one of Marcus Sloss’ best works. The story follows a series of characters that gain depth as the story continues. He definitely leaves room for follow sequels to the saga. He got more right from a military perspective than what I would have expected from “trashy-sci-fi/romance” series. My only real complaint is that I wish they would have expanded the fourth book to fully cover all of the issues presented, much as they did earlier in the series. Performac

Hell yes, it's worth it

I think providing a little context for my review would be helpful. I tend to take it easy on the first and last book of any story. Beginnings can be inherently shaky and not everybody makes it to “The End.” Next when reviewing, I refrain from speaking about the latter half of a book in an effort to avoid spoilers. I have for lack of a better word consumed quite a few stories by this author and well at times his stories are not so nice they are always beautifully written and enjoyable. The narration team is relatively new as far as I can tell. They are certainly new to me. That being said, their performance in this story was top notch. As for the story itself I have immensely enjoyed it and easily recommend it to anybody reading this review. Now for a few of the details that might not have been as clear when reading the blurb or may not have been mentioned. Essentially this is a story set in the arguably not too distant future. It does appear to be something of a liberal utopia, but as is the case in most utopian stories “not everything that glitters is gold.” The initial chapters of the story are a blend of what is currently happening and alluding to what is soon to happen while also discussing the main characters past. The main character was the son of rich parents and acted like the stereotypes of such individuals are usually portrayed. It starts with party drugs and then moves on to selling drugs followed by getting caught and imprisoned. There is an offer made by the government for recruitment into the military in preparation for a new war. The government does not really take no for an answer and while I might have said they twisted his arm; they actually took it right the hell off. He signs up and fights for money and pardon and his reformed penal company is subsequently abandoned in hostile territory. At the beginning of the story, it sounds like nobody got out of that situation untouched. Moving on to what is happening currently. There is an asteroid that is not an asteroid, but actually what appears to be a hostile alien vessel moving rapidly towards earth. Everything is being kept hush hush by the world governments. An old acquaintance of our main character has gotten word out to the veterans that he helped. Now the plan is for our main character to grab those he wants to be a part of his team and head for the hills. I am going to stop there but I would be surprised if you were not hooked. With all the aforementioned it is four books for the price of 1 making the price right and worth the gamble. Finally, before I go, I just want to say thank you to everybody who had a hand in bringing this story to us, the audio listeners. Well done and keep up the excellent work.

Rushed more and more towards the end.

This review will have spoilers. Stop reading if you want.

I really liked the first parts of this story, I liked the ideas, I liked many of the plot lines or character lines that were created, I liked the harem aspects and the alien aspects and technology aspects. etc. Things were setup to be such a grand epic. Then as time progressed it felt like the author got tired of writing and didn't want to expand this idea to 6 or 8 or 10 books so they just quickly wrapped up every plot line as fast as possible without anything epic happening at all. Such as:

-Save the Divine Apes, join the Alliance because of it, and then the only thing that really happens is you get 1 main Alliance member to come help you setup your community, but nothing else. Alliance troops were sent to Earth in the "greatest mission of their lives" and literally nothing happens with them AT ALL. The Alliance is full of ancient creatures that have been planning this escape plan or attack for literal ages and they didn't expect that the enemy may go into hiding to regroup???? HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE? So the main plot line just ends with an extremely lackluster fight against 1 single mothership??
-The sirens and Jill's ex husband are setup as a major antagonists and then just dealt with in a lackluster battle and then end up killed by a random ocean creature, no real consequences or anything created by or caused by this group.
-The Teton fortress just cleaned out in 1 quick small infiltration to get rid of the only competition left in the United States area and nothing of consequence happened there.
-There is foreshadowing created that if Eric were to listen to the parasite bug creatures that something big would happen (The owl told him they couldn't be reasoned with and that they were not good at all among other things) and then NOTHING comes of it.
-Spent time setting up relationships with people and factions and vendors inside the golden portals and then just nothing, they are gone.
-Synthetic bodies, underground cities, defenses, etc were all setup and then they felt like they were in the book for all of about 5 minutes with nothing ever really happening with them. (Yes I know synthetics were used by some main characters for things towards the end of the book but it just felt like they were really fleshed out to be a main part of the story).

Anyways, SOOO many good things about this book and story, so many things were setup or created, and then it all just came to a close. Like you're a surgeon who is preparing everything for the biggest and most detailed brain surgery ever attempted and then it turns out that the patient just needs their tonsils removed.

Marcus Sloss does an amazing job with this series!

Marcus Sloss does an amazing job with this series! It starts off a bit slow but then the pace kicks up and never stops for all 4 books. Marcus does a great job with the MC and each supporting character. Everyone pitches in and develops the MC and themselves which is what I always look for in this genre. The portal system and alien apocolypse vibes are fun and the plot/story move at a good pace. I look forward to Marcus's next release! Audio Version: Jack Douglas and Alexa Roosevelt narrate great together. Each brings their characters alive quite nicely and the voices of each are unique enough to know whos who at all times.
