Publisher's summary

From the "must-read author" (Romance Junkies) of Letting Go - the new novel in her Surrender Trilogy.

In her sensational Breathless Trilogy, New York Times best-selling author Maya Banks tested the boundaries of desire. In her new trilogy, there’s only one thing left to do: cross them. Now, the story continues as one woman, haunted by the shadows of the past, explores the possibilities of a new beginning in ways she never could have imagined.…

Kylie sees the way Jensen looks at her. The dark promise in his eyes. That rough edge of dominance she knows he possesses. But dominance is the one thing that frightens her above all else. She and her brother barely survived a childhood steeped in violence and abuse. She could never give up total control and submit to a man. Especially a man like Jensen. Could she?

Jensen sees the shadows in Kylie’s eyes. Knows he has to tread very carefully or risk losing any chance he has with her. All he wants is the opportunity to show her that dominance doesn’t equal pain, bondage, or discipline. That emotional surrender is the most powerful of all, and that to submit fully to him will fulfill the aching void in her heart in a way nothing else ever will.

Like the story

However the narration was less than good. I preferred a male narration. But story anyway.

The Narrator ruined it for me

The story itself is okay, I wish I had actually read this one instead of listening to it. It isn't my favorite Maya Banks, The characters are TOO damaged to let the story really heat up.

The real deal breaker though was the narration. Kylie is sooooo whiney I spent a good deal of time gritting my teeth thru her portions, And her man's tones, sounds a little like......well.....Forrest Gump. My internal loop kept playing "Run Forrest Run" and Stewie's "Mom Mom Mom Mommy Mommy Mommy." which made it a little tough to get into the parts that actually were hot.

Better read than audio

Again, the narrator’s voice is wonderful as a female, but horrible accent for the male lead (Jensen). Good story.

Great story, horrible narration.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would change the narration, it was absolutely horrible. The male voice was hideous. female sounded like a 12 year old.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Giving In?

I liked the whole story. Very romantic and touching.

What didn’t you like about Alix Dale’s performance?

The male voice was so unnatural and weird sounding it was like listening to an alien with a fake southern accent. The female voice I could half way deal with.

Did Giving In inspire you to do anything?

No.

Any additional comments?

The male voice sucked all the romance out of the book. The story would have been much more romantic and sexy with a different male voice. Giving the narration one star was generous.

Hideous narration

In such a competitive field there is NO excuse.
Enjoy author, will need to take a break before I can actually read this series. The unbelievably bad narration keeps replaying in my mind when the characters speak....and yes, Forrest Gump was male lead!!!

Surrender Trilogy: Book Two Kylie & Jenson

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The second in the Surrender trilogy we meet Kylie. She has a violent and abusive past and wants nothing to do with dominance and control. Jensen is the man used to being in control, he enjoys going up to the boundary and crossing it however, he is willing to give it all up for Kylie.

As some of the other reviewers have pointed out the story was okay – I think okay because it was salvaged by the friendship of the women in the book. But overall, I was not a fan of this installment.

Of course, this is fiction and written to go over the edge but there has to be a bit of believability in it, for me. The heroine was somewhat believable but the hero was terribly disappointing… Readily giving up his core self for the love of this woman.

I am pretty forgiving with narrators but Alix Dale was off the charts awful as she performed the male characters. I didn't know what sort of accent Dale was trying to achieve for any of the male characters it was distracting and really bad.

I suggest that Maya Banks, or agent, listens to the audition tapes more carefully before selecting her next narrator. Carolyn Winter, Adam Paul, Freddy Bates or Christian Fox – – all narrators of her other books.

Mature themes

I highly recommend reading this series over listening to it. Or wait for a re-release with a different narrator.
