About this listen

Garden City, Kansas, 1888.

A small Western town receives an early Christmas present: a new pastor for the church. He is young, handsome, and single.

To church organist Kristina Heitschmidt, Reverend Cody Williams is nothing but trouble, especially as his first move is trying to take control of the music away from her.

But Kristina is not about to give up her life’s work. With Christmas fast approaching, it appears the two are at a stalemate - until a sudden blizzard traps them together in the church overnight.

Forced at last to deal with each other, they realize that the explosive feelings between them are really symptoms of an overwhelming passion that just might lead to the love of a lifetime.

This western romance includes explicit sex scenes.

A well-developed story

I have both read and listened to this story. First, let me say that the writing is well-done in that the characters are developed and the storyline never lags. The only concern I have with this story is the overtly sexual scenes in what is written like a christian romance. I would hesitate to recommend the book without advising others of that.

Very Religious story and detailed love scenes usually don’t mix well

So, this story had A LOT of scriptures, prayers and hymns. In detail… like every word of the hymn (buzz kill). Also, it has Very detailed vanilla sex scenes. Now, usually these two don’t mix. And I’m not saying it was a bad mixture, just maybe less of one or the other would have been better. Less hymns and prayers…
This book would be great for a virgin christian young adult with no experience and was raised in a sheltered environment. It would make them more comfortable in their marriage bed when it’s their first time.
*spoiler* there was some bible versus from the book of songs of Solomon that spoke of how to touch bride/woman (lol… yes)

Overall, I cannot deny that is was a good story. Sweet at times but I did not lose interest. I did fast forward through a prayer and hymn but other that’s that it was good.

Loved this book!!

I loved this book. It was very well read and it kept me wanting to hear more. It was so sweet how they “had” to get married and found loving each other and how to please each other along the way. Wonderful book!! Can’t wait to read the next one!!!

Loved it!!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Kristina did not think that she was pretty enough for someone as handsome as Cody but he could see her inner beauty that shone through like a beacon in the dark. Cody was struck by the way that Kristina did not meekly go along with the norm, but fought back to make her own way and do things the way she wanted to. Love drew them together and kept them together.

Midwest Romance - true and real

The story is well done and just when I was getting anxious to move it forward it does. Yes there is biblical reference and of course a story about a preacher will have this. It was true and real. Scripture, hymns, and prayer are part of a realistic view point. I was impressed. And loved that the author shows how sexual desire is also part of being human. Song of Solomon is all about how a husband and wife should be. Wish more authors understood this when trying to write with a Christian theme. Simone gets it!

Surpised How Much I Loved This

This was such a sweet story. I loved the chemistry between the two main characters. The story moved smoothly and kept my interest. I was worried the congregation would be overly judgy, and while there was some, overall, they were more loving and accepting. There is also a second storyline, and I love the theme of second chances, especially during the holidays. This book does get very steamy, very quickly towards the end. I was not expecting it. I also did not see the ending coming.

Due to the time of year, I had to listen to this in chunks, and I had a really hard time putting it down. If this was any other time of year, I would have easily listened to this in one sitting.

Abigail Anders has an amazing voice. Her voices and emotions were perfect. Her performance was spectacular. I went to try and find more books narrated by her. Currently, this is the only one. I anxiously await more.

I received a copy of this audiobook at my request, and I have voluntarily left this review.

High Plains Holiday

This book was great. It held my interest from the start. I laughed at parts of it. Cody is the preacher in a small town and he meets Christina. They fall head over heels for each other. They get married and don't know anything about sex. This book should have a million reviews. If people knew how good and funny it is it would. This is definitely a five star book. Abigail Anders could make a career narration books she did an excellent job. I could listen to her all day. I received a copy of this book from audiobooks unleashed but that has no influence on my review. If my review is any help will you please click on the helpful link below. Thank you.
