delightful

I wish this were developed into a longer story. There were odds and ends that I didn't quite buy, but the mood was spot on and the narrator did a great job. Love scenes were intense, characters well developed, and the conclusion was satisfying.

Taking the burden off his shoulders

I loved this book but do feel that it ended to abruptly. Would have loved so here the Mentor say "I love you two".

Taking someone so broken and so stubborn and with so much pride is a urge task. A firm hand is definitely needed however seeing that the one in charges sees that there are deeper problems and changing the way he normally does things in order to help even more is what makes this such a great story. I read a review where someone called it abuse 101 but all I saw was someone strong who was willing to bend and compromise in order to be exactly what the other needed.

The editing was botched a little with the double line readings and the "End of Chapter" announcement but the narrator still did a good job.

Great Story

I'm becoming a fan of Yamila Abraham. I really liked this story, however I do wished that there was more. I would've liked to see what happens in the future as them settle in on becoming a family. Derrick's son was cute.

Great Story, Narration had some real problems.

What did you like best about Hostile Taking? What did you like least?

The story was wonderful with some world building and steamy scenes. A bit too heavy on the mention of 'organs' and 'members' and other such sex related things. The narrator was actually really good, however he had trouble pronouncing words like 'heady' and a few others.

What other book might you compare Hostile Taking to and why?

It's something like Acquainted with the Night

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Most of the problem with the narrator were obvious editing problems, where the narrator mispronounced words, or repeated a sentence.

Could you see Hostile Taking being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Ha!

Great voice

I loved the story. But I really enjoyed his voice. Very relaxing. I have read or listened to almost all of Yamila's writings and she always impresses me.

I love love this book

This is one of my favorite books from this author. No cheating or sleeping with other people, just a warm sweet romance with a touch of scorching sex.

Not as good as the first but pretty good

There was some parts which were clearly edits, a word replaced or intonation of the narrator changed, which seems rather careless— I could understand one or two but I’m fairly certain it was at least 5 times.

Also, the first parts skittered dangerously close to coerced rape or assault, narrowly avoids it as Merick is of course sexually aroused but people can be sexually aroused and still assaulted or even raped so the author isn’t off the hook, especially with the pheromones and other drugging it could be seen as coercion under the influence, which is even worse as Merick didn’t have a choice. I believe it would have been better if Merick had been wanted the sex so bad he initiated rather than just accepting it. Also if a person really want something it doesn’t matter that their opponent is much larger, many a woman has fought tooth and nail with an attacker even though the person was much larger to the bitter end, sometimes through trickery or through distraction, there was a scene. Where he gave in too easily just because he was overpowered. I did like how it was addressed that straight men wouldn’t enjoy sex with a man without the pheromones etc but the writer never addressed how a female could dose a male Dianeh (sorry I don’t know how it’s spelled), or if there aren’t any female mentors or what, but that’s not a big deal.

I thought the narrator did a good job with the kid’s voice, it is very hard for some male narrators to manage kids voices without them being annoying but it worked for me, although his high pitched voice might be annoying to others. Other all it was nice to have another book in this world but with totally different characters and I enjoyed it.

Total Favorite!

I’m a fan of Yamila’s books in general, but some of them are hard to get into because of her writing—not bad, but different. I find it’s easier to read the books before going into her audiobooks. This one is a personal favorite of mine and one I go back to again and again. It’s borderline dub-con, but I fell in love with both characters immediately and love, love, love revisiting their story. It’s definitely smexy, but I don’t know that I would classify it as “red hot.” It’s just....gah, so good! For a shorter audiobook, the storyline covers a lot of depth and the world is explained in such detail that you immediately understand what’s going on without having the first half of the book dripping in too much information. Bryce Chadwell is probably one of the better narrators that this author has used and he does each individual voice perfectly.

interesting concept

I liked it, I wished it was longer, I have never read anything like this, so kudos to the author for a original story!
