Publisher's summary

As tracker for the Redwood Pack, Kaylee Jamenson knows her duty. She’s seen war and heartache, but now the battle hits closer to home when a packmate goes missing. With rogues on the rise, the Alphas of the Redwood and Talon Packs send her to find their lost wolf before all is lost.

Yet nothing is as it seems, and as the hunt grows dangerous, so does the threat to her heart when fate throws a curveball in her path.

Her mate.

Includes a bonus novella, Fated in Winter.

Conner Jamenson knows two things: One day he might turn rogue.

And he can never risk his mate.

Romy Temple knows what it means to be lonely.

She’s spent 99 years in the Talon Pack, not part of the hierarchy, and not quite old enough to be elder.

She’s the wolf no one remembers.

With a rogue on the loose and the winter season approaching, two wolves who promised they would never fall find themselves on the brink of doing what could cost them the most.

Each other.

Kaylee and James!

MATED IN DARKNESS
Kaylee is a tracker for the Redwood pack. She is sent to find a missing packmate that may have gone rogue. What she doesn't expect to find, is James, a human scientist working with the Starlight Pack to figure out what is causing wolves to go rogue. They are instantly attracted to each other and the more time they spend together, Kaylee believes she has found her human mate. In order to save James when he is severely hurt, Kaylee must make the decision to complete the mating bond by marking him which ultimately turns him from human to wolf shifter.

Kaylee and James weren't looking for their HEA, but they found it together! For audio, great narration by Aiden Snow and Kit Swann.

FATED IN WINTER
Connor, from the Redwood pack, is struggling with the fear of going rogue and the fact his twin sister has mated. While hanging out with is brother on the cliffs, he senses a friend who has gone rogue stalking him causing him to shift to his wolf form. As they begin to fight, he loses is footing and begins to fall over the cliff. Deciding he has a better chance of surviving, he shifts back to human form. That's when he meets Romy.

Romy is a part of the Talon pack but spends most of her time alone. After losing sight of the rogue wolf she was chasing, she finds Connor hanging off the side of the cliff. Once pulled to safety, they continue to pursue the rogue wolf. As they spend more time together, their wolves realize they are mates without actually marking each other. As the bond between their wolves is too strong, they decide to make the mating bond permanent by marking each other. Romy is no longer alone and Conner's fears of going rogue have disappeared and they both get their HEA.

For the audio version, Aiden Snow and Kit Swann did an awesome job.

Love

This was such a fantastic story. What can Carrie Ann Ryan not write? It was fast paced and action packed. Love when next generation stories are written. This story ties the ending together nicely and let’s you know there will be more. So be ready. And Ready I am. Absolutely loved the twins. I am glad there was a HEA and what a way to find your mate! The bonus story was amazing. It was great to hear how Connor and Romy met. The narration was great. I am loving Aiden snow.

And the next generation begins

Wow, it's been a long time since we have seen the Redwood Pack and what a way to revitalize them. I love that Kaylee was trusted, and challenged, by going to the Starlight Pack to find the missing packmate. And then to see who her mate is, was just WOW! There is so much controversy with these two being mates until a near death experience.

I love seeing the next generation of pack members getting stories. I don't know if Ms. Ryan is planning to continue along this line, but I think it would be fun to see.

Aiden Snow is my absolute favorite narrator of all time and he out does himself in any of his shifter books. His voice is the perfect blend for this genre, not to stereotype him. But gawd, that gruff and growliness is music to my ears. Kitt Swann is new to me and I know Ms Ryan is using her in other books. She handles a strong female shifter well. I'm looking forward to hearing more from her.

Mated in Darkness

⏤ 4 Maple Leaf ALC Review ⏤

Kaylee, a pack tracker, is tasked with heading to Texas to try and find a missing Redwood/Starlight pack member. When she arrives in Texas she realizes there are strange things happening to the wolves in the area but also her personal life is about to be flipped upside down.

Jason and Kaylee are complete opposites in every way but the pull they have to each other is magical and combustible. I loved how fiercely protective Jason was of Kaylee even though she was a dominant wolf. I can not wait to see what is next in Carrie Ann Ryan's paranormal pack world.

Aiden Snow and Kit Swann both did a great job narrating and bringing the characters and story to life. This was my first listen with Kit Swann and I am looking forward to more audiobooks by her.

Mated in Darkness is the tenth book in the Talon Pack series by Carrie Ann Ryan and is a paranormal, shifter (wolves), fated mates romance told in the dual first-person point-of-view.

Good addition to this series

I generally am not a fan of the paranormal/shape shifter reads but this was a pretty good book. I have read a few books from this series but not many and I can say with much relief that this can be read as a standalone read as it wasn't too confusing as to what is going on as well as the intertwining relationships between the characters.

In this book, we meet Kaylee and Jason. Kaylee is a tracker and enforcer for the Redwood pack who is trying to find one of her pack mates that has disappeared. She goes to the Starlight pack where she find more rogue wolves that appear plagued but instead were victims of the serum that they believed was destroyed. While searching, she finds her mate when she least expected it but was left with some doubts.

Jason, a scientist working with the Starlight pack looking for the cause of the rogue wolves and the illness that they appear to be suffering from. He is unexpectedly is turned to wolf as a means to save his life while finding his mate in Kaylee.

The chemistry between the pair was off the charts and in this action packed read there were a few twists that I did not expect. In the end, I was left wondering what is in store for this series next and I look forward to seeing it as well.

The narration performed by Aiden Snow and Kit Swann was performed well. This pair did a great job bringing this story to life making it an enjoyable listening experience.

Really enjoyed

I really enjoyed Kaylee and Jason’s story. I have missed the wolf shifters and was excited to see the return. Kaylee is a tracker and sent to find one of the wolves that has been missing for a short time with no contact to the pack. When on her mission she wasn’t planning to find her mate. Jason is a friend of a different wolf pack and helping them find out what has been killing wolves, witches and humans in his area. There is an instant attraction that Jason doesn’t fully understand and Kaylee while on a mission isn’t ready to fully explore. Unfortunately the bad guys aren’t going to give them much choice and might end their chance at being mates before it even begins. So looking forward to more. Loved the characters and the seeing old ones from before. Great read. Narrators were really great with these characters

Absolutely loved this story!

This has been one of my favorite series by the author that I’ve missed so much. Absolutely adore the shifters! Kaylee is on a mission she’s to track her missing pack member and bring him back home. Her special abilities allow her to find others easily and leaving to head to the Starlight pack is not something she’s looking forward to but it needs to be done. What she doesn’t plan on is meeting a human that makes her feel a way nobody else has and just can’t be happening wrong time wrong place.

Overall I’ve loved every single one of the shifter books and this one was no different.

Enjoyable Addition

What a bonus two books together here each book is about one of the siblings in a set of twins, Kaylee and Connor Jameson both are strong and dominant wolves who share a very strong twin bond who both find their mates in different parts of the country at the same time.

Mated in Darkness - Kaylee's a tracker assigned by her uncle the Alpha to find a missing wolf, a wolf not born into their pack but one who had joined them. Kaylee has an uncanny ability when it comes to finding/tracking, she seems to just know where to look, she feels he may be back in the area of his former pack the Starlight. She travels to the Starlight pack's territory and finds the missing wolf but she's too late he's dead and there's a human standing over his still bleeding body. Jason the human in question is a geneticist and friend of the Starlight pack. For some time he's been trying to find out what has been causing the black death that is killing not only wolves but witches and humans too. Kaylee recognises from her first contact with him that he didn't kill the man and that he's her potential mate, but how can that be he's human? Despite the mutual attraction felt by Jason and Kaylee they decide to solve the problem of who/what is causing the deaths before taking their relationship to the next level.

But then Jason is attacked and is close to death's door the only way to save his life is to turn him, but they hadn't discussed it, would he want to be a wolf? Kaylee has moments to decide whether to mate him and let the alpha of the Starlight pack turn him or let him die. She decides that she can't bear to lose her mate and so she marks him and the alpha turns him.

Jason survives the turning, something that isn't always successful, and together they discover the secret of what the black death is but not who is behind it. Jason and she then return to the Redwood pack knowing that there is still more work to do but they will do it together,

Fated in Winter - Connor is a wolf on the edge, he fears he's close to turning rogue as so many wolves seem to be at the moment. Whilst out tracking a wolf on the point of going rogue and hoping to prevent it he literally falls off the side of the mountain and would surely have died if a female wolf, Romey hadn't caught on to him and saved his life. Romey belongs to the Talon Pack a pack with close links to the Redwood Pack. She's close to 100 years old and lives alone in a house in the woods made from the debris of her old family home, a home that was destroyed during the wars when all her family were killed.

Both she and Connor feel a connection but both agree that they will not mark each other until they get to know each other, but their wolves are having non of that and as they are making love the bond snaps into place without a mating bite! Obviously, the Moon Goddess wasn't taking any chances, knowing that even though they don't know each other they belong together they complete their mating.

They also manage to save the wolf Connor had been tracking and return him to his family all whilst working together to plan a joint Yule Celebration for both their packs.

The narration of this book and the bonus novella is beautifully done by Aiden Snow and Kit Swann, they brought each character to life wonderfully well.

I was given this audiobook as a gift and am voluntarily writing my review.
