About this listen

Something is going on in the sleepy little town of Meryton.
Mr. Thomas Alexander Bennett has had several unexplained accidents!
Accidents, which could have ended up with him, at best, having severe injuries or at worse… losing his life. After barely surviving the last ‘accident Thomas decides to meet with his best friends to discuss the matter. While viewing the evidence they conclude—Someone is trying to, ‘MURDER MR. BENNETT.”
Elizabeth Bennett is visiting her best friend Charlotte Collins and her cousin William Collins. He is the Parson at Rosings Park estate in Kent County. Where she once again meets Mr. Darcy who proposes marriage to her, in the most horrendous manner possible. Elizabeth turns down his horrid proposal using the worst insults she can think of at that time!
She sends the man running back to his aunt, Lady Catherine De Bourgh’s estate. Her words still ringing in his ears, about his selfish disdain for the feelings of others. She now knows he is the reason Mr. Bingley left Meryton! She has learned Mr. Darcy conspired with Mr. Bingley’s sisters to separate him from sweet Jane. Caroline Bingley and Louisa Hurst are two of the most vulgar, social climbing harridans she has ever had the misfortune to meet. But Mr. Darcy’s crimes are numerous, beginning with the harm he has caused poor Mr. Wickham. Elizabeth is certain Mr. Darcy was behind the letter Miss Bingley wrote to Jane. Where she expressed herself in no uncertain terms saying, the Bennett’s are beneath the Bingley’s in every way.
Returning to Rosings, Darcy tries to write a letter to Elizabeth but soon gives up the endeavor altogether. Instead, he turns to his cousin Colonel Richard Fitzwilliam for aide. After breaking their fast, Darcy and the Colonel go to the Parsonage. Where they learn Elizabeth has been called home to Longbourn, due to her father having a serious accident. Darcy and Richard decide to head to London. Darcy wants to correct some previous mistakes he made before he returns to Meryton. He is determined to win the approbation and love of Miss Elizabeth Bennett.
Once Elizabeth returns home and Mr. Bennett recovers, he decides to take his family on a vacation to Brighton.
Tragedy strikes once again! And this one could ruin the entire family. Soon the majority of the Bennett’s are on their way to London to try and save their family’s honor.
But fate intervenes and a catastrophe of enormous proportions strikes, leaving more than one member of the Bennett family dead!
Now there is no more doubt in anyone’s mind. Someone is definitely trying to MURDER Thomas Alexander Bennett! Find out who and why, in this exciting novel filled with a roller coaster ride of thrills and chills!

Lots of characters - good ones

Very enjoyable story with many new characters and most of our familiar characters acting way out of canon - especially Charlotte Lucas and her family. Lady Catherine also is very different. Elizabeth and Darcy are in the story but are not the stars. All the sisters are stars in their own right. I like this author, Selene Garrou, because she deals out retribution swiftly and does not drag things out forever. Poor Mr. Bennett is subjected to many murder attempts, but luckily he survives them. The Lucas family are the villains trying to kill him, which is known to the listeners/readers from the beginning. Great wrap up at the end.

Murder and the orient express meet Pride and Prejudice !

Exciting twist on the life stories of my favorite literary characters. Mary is not so plain , Jane isn’t a smiling simpering Miss. Aunt Catherine’s heart was just maybe two sizes too small.
Beware of false friends and you just might live to meet the Prince Regent and Queen Charlotte!

Epically Entertaining!

This author has the soul of a true adventurer. Her stories are filled with evildoers, revenge and heroes of the most valiant and noble hearts. This is not your standard Drawing Room variation. Read it for the joy of adventure.

Group adventure and romance

There are no individual heroes in this story- it is all group work. The heroes consist of a group of wonderful, beautiful females and a group of handsome, brave, powerful, and (most of them) very rich men. They fight a group of insane criminals. The heroes should, if narrative requirements did not forbid it, destroy the villains, yet they keep procrastinating thus enabling the villains to enact their villainous schemes. Romance is announced (repeatedly), but there is little emotion. The language feels mechanical. Yet, despite all the faults, the overall story is fairly gripping and the Virtual Voice sounds much more natural than I would have expected.

Lucas’s launch terror.

If you’ve ever wondered the real reason why Charlotte accepted Mr. Collins, then this book might be for you.

The Lucas family learns that Mr. Bennett is the heir to a Dukedom, and they set out to murder him so that Mr. Collins (and Charlotte) can inherit.

This P&P variation follows canon only in that Elizabeth and Darcy end up together, however their story is only 1/100th of this version. The other characters find different happily ever afters, and that’s fine. An interesting change of pace for sure.

There are numerous characters, good and bad. I liked how some traditionally bad characters turned to good.

This book was violent, with many many murders, and also with a note of sexual violence, so this could be a trigger warning.

I could only give one star for the performance as it’s AI, and therefore how do you rate an AI performance?

It’s a long book and a solid read. There is character development with many characters. The author is creative and also does a great job of tying all loose ends. A bonus is when the Bingley sisters get their comeuppance.

Wasted

The book was wasted on AI. it was an exciting story. An actual narrator could have made every minute a thrill. AI is bland an monotone. I can now say I tried an AI book. I will not be trying another.
