About this listen
The year is 1658. Colette, daughter of a drunken and impoverished nobleman, has just been ‘lost’ in a wager, given to the dashing Lord Philippe de Valon, as payment for gambling debts. Against a backdrop of the lavish and decadent Court at Versailles, Colette is exposed to the delicious but dangerous attentions of a man used to taking what he wants.
When Philippe is called away on King’s business, Colette is left in the hands of his sour old aunt, who regards Colette with suspicion and disdain. On their trip to Philippe’s castle in the north of France, Colette and her handmaid are abducted by a gang of ruffians. Will Philippe be able to rescue Colette before her innocence is lost at the hands of her tormentors? Or will she become the debased sex slave of hardened criminals?
Seduction of Colette is a story of sexual awakening, of courage and virtue in the face of depravity, and ultimately, of true love.
Caution: This book contains scenes of forced submission which some listeners may find offensive.

meh
way to much detail and time spent on the trauma and rape and not enough time on the healing and love at the end. I understand how important the details were just wish it was a bit more balanced

Can a purloined maiden find her happily ever after?
A slightly ribald tale set during the Louis XIV “Sun King” period. A drunken duke gambles his 3rd daughter in a card game and loses. Under threat and to keep the family honor the young lady is presented to the game winner, an architect, ship builder and businessman who’s found the favors of many women in the court. What will become of the daughter, is she a servant, a companion, or chattel to be bartered off? This story kept me attentive and while it may have triggers for some it was a well prepared and presented story.

In touch with trauma
The author takes the reader/ listener through the mental struggles of PTSD from sexual assault. How many victims feel soiled and unwanted by society. But also the complexity of having a willing and understanding love after the traumatic experience. This sheds so much light on how victim blaming could be avoided. Even in modern times, victims take the fault of their rapists and are made to feel ashamed of themselves. Claire Thompson did a wonderful job of unraveling a hellish psychological event into a happily ever after.

Good but not perfect
I know this is dumb but it wasn't historically accurate in some places and that distracted me from the story a bit. otherwise it was good

Twisted turns
This was an enjoyable selection to listen to on audio. The writer made it so easy to listen as if you were actually there. I’d like the complete descriptions in detail of each event that occurred. It was also nice to see but the poor Colette would actually end up well off in the end an happy.

❣❣❣❣❣❣
this was a good listen all-in-all I am glad the author didn't just thrust Colette back into the arms of her love interest as if nothing ever happened it was nice to see some care in time for the emotions

Poorly written drivel
It’s amazing how many times the author uses the word “little” to describe just about everything that’s is small. Can’t even come up with reasonable synonyms. All in all a literary disappointment. The sex descriptions were even annoying.
