Publisher's summary

Born in battle, my birth brought peace. But peace is boring, and so is the warlock to whom I’m betrothed.

Real name: Aria Emanuele

Code name: The Sapphire Scythe

Supe status: first vampire/succubus hybrid. Heir to the Aeternae clan.

Military status: Top spy and assassin for the Universal Army.

I’ve been running from my duties as the heir to the supe kingdom to marry Cade, my intended, and create more hybrid children for centuries. I’ve been playing soldier, spy, assassin, or whatever takes me close to the action instead. My parents and my people think I just need time to sow my royal oats, but I love this too much to give it up.

Humans have brought themselves to World War Three. My mission in the Universal Army is to get close to the dictator who caused it. I already suspect he’s got a supe close to him, but I’m keeping it to myself for now. I want to do this myself. I had a mark close to Zimin, the dictator. My mission was simple. Extract information, then kill him. Something went horribly wrong that night. I wake up in a hotel room with a Lycan, a vamp, and a warlock. All trained assassins like me. Seems my dear parents sent them here.

There’s also a little catch in there. According to the men in my hotel, nature has given me three mates instead of one. Nature and my parents expect me to pick. Nature has a sick sense of humor and seems to know my horrible taste in men. There’s Ronric, the huge Irish Lycan, Rainer, the dark Egyptian Warlock, and Kalon, the swarthy Bulgarian vampire. I had a lot of fun in all three countries before swearing off men from any of those places and refusing to go back.

Now, I’ve got three beautiful men in front of me with all the qualities I want in a man, and I have no idea how I’m supposed to pick.

it's alright

I like the supernatural thing and the reverse harem aspect but there wasn't a lot of action OR romance going on but the thing that killed it for me was the Narrator! she was so slow and monotone, it was so frustrating! She just sounded like she was on Xanax or something because she was just speaking so slowly and with almost no emotion, like she was tired or just couldn't care less no matter what she was supposed to be feeling in the story. it was super annoying. like she was supposed to be angry or furious but her voice would never change or even speed up. I usually try to read along in Kindle when I can but with this story I would read a whole page before she even finished one paragraph and it just got so frustrating. like I get emotional when reading a story and feel what the character is feeling so when she's reading about her yelling and being furious but her voice hasn't changed At All, ugh! and when she was reading dialog between 2 or more characters it got really confusing because you couldn't tell when one person's speech ended and the other began. almost as bad as digital voice, man.

Worth the listen

I enjoy a strong FMC who can hold her own and Aria did not disappoint. The story was good and kept me guessing a few times. The main thing about this book was the matings and markings for me! I'm just going to leave a few Kew words in regards to the steamy sexy times... Jealousy, Alphas, Pleasure, Marking, Biting, Bonding and the all important learning to share.

Had Potential...

Okay/good story, kinda ruined by the narrator. I listened to this whilst multi-tasking, but once I got to Chapter 30, I had to speed it up to finish since there was only 10+ minutes was left. So basically the steamy scenes were boring because of the narrator who had little to no variation with her voices...and it felt like I was listening to a teenager tell me an erotic story. I'm sorry, I just had to laugh through it.

Unusual Storyline

The Sapphire Sythe by JB Trepagnier and narrated by Jennifer Whiskey is the first book in The Order of the Red Shadow series.
We meet Aria, our FMC, who wants nothing more than a man to call her by her given name. You see she's a spy, who also happens to be a hybrid Vampire/Succubus.
Enter the Harem: Ronrik, an wolf, Caellen, a vampire, and Raynor, a warlock. They have been told that they are each her true mate and she has to choose.
I loved the story line and the characters, but the narration left a lot on the table. There were no accents or vocal changes for the characters and I had to really focus to figure out who was talking.
Would I listen to this book again? probably not
Would I recommend this book to others? probably not on audio, but in paperback
