About this listen

Death and reincarnation.

Kuroe Makoto, the tomboyish ace of her high school track-and-field club, never spared a thought for these things before. However, when she falls asleep in her Tokyo home after an exhausting marathon and wakes up in a fantasy world, those concepts become her reality. Unlike common light novel settings, she isn't reincarnated as the naturally good-looking and talented human hero who gathers a harem effortlessly. In fact, she isn't reincarnated as a human at all. She is reborn as "Chaos", child of the demon queen and heir to a kingdom at war with humanity.

The Tentacle Awakens puts the Japanese high school girl in a tentacle monster in this strange tale of a sound human who mind-possesses a horrifying creature's body. Join Chaos on her oftentimes humorous but also perilous journey through a world of sword and sorcery, as she discovers a newfound appetite for life, terror, and demi-human girls.

The Demon Princess Magical Chaos series contains gore and explicit sexual content. It's intended for mature listeners.

Solid Yuri Harem, generic world

The story is about a lesbian tom boy Japanese highschool girl being reincarnated as a shape shifting tentacle monster, who happen to be the daughter of the Demon Queen. Chloe (what people call the mc later through out the story) now have to get back to the Demon Queen in 3 yrs as she travel the world and meet new people.

Evil align chaotic main character is always a cool interesting thing bc being evil is just always cool and the main character is indeed cool and likable. She play as the damsel in distress who want to try her best while also being a bit of a sadist and playful. It is an interesting dynamic of her hiding her true self to trick the people around her.

The main reason people will probably read this is sexy yuri harem, which it does indeed deliver with loli's dark elf and busty dark elf. Both character are likable, sexy and cute. Oh and there an evil creepy cute doll.

That being said, the best characters are indeeed the main character, the harem dark elf and the creepy doll, who unfortunately share time with boring generic adventures. Which is something the Chloe keep pointing out, which does not make the generic party she join any less generic or boring.

Also, the dialogue can be a bit cringy. It mixes Japanese idiom with English including some of the pronounciation that can be a tad annoying. Especially the constant reference in the beginning. Granted it does find its own rhythm, but suddenly end.

It has potential and overall had fun, but it is a bit generic overall which is unfortunate considering how cool and unique it is to have lesbian tentacle monster harem with other dark creature.

Anime in an audiobook

If you love anime and manga you will definitely enjoy this audiobook, it reminds me alot of a recent anime I watched called "that time i got reincarnated as a slime" which I also recommend. It's funny and witty and all around a good listen and I feel like the narrator really embraces who the character is.

What can I say

So yeah if you like fan fics this is for you if you like to listen to an actual book then this will be a struggle to get through. The author has the tendency to remind its readers that the MC is an op character that basically can't be hurt but they treat the MC like they have the brain capacity of an early teen. Lots of details could of been added to a bunch of characters but seems to act like the only people that matter is the MC and only a few female characters. The writing is bad and confusing at times because it felt like I was missing something most of the time. I'll be listening to the other books just hope this author has improved over time.

Overall dissapointed.

The verbiage is a bit repetitive, like upturned eyes. Storyline starts pretty unique but ends in a LOTR ripoff.
I was initially interested by the beginning gore and monster aspect but it quickly becomes another regular adventure.
The sexual content was interesting but I was a bit grossed out by the Lolita complex.

Finally

An isekai story that doesn’t have a main character with an overly developed sense of morality and a soul crushing need to save everybody, including her enemies.

Fantastic reading of an amazing story

Loved this series in book form - each volume got more surprising and more fantastic than the last! There's only hints of what's to come in volume 1, but I'll tell you now that the scale of the plot gets *epic*.

I ended up restarting the series in audibook form so my wife could follow along too when we walk the dogs (we've got similar enough tastes I was sure she'd love it).

Coming back to the start from further in the series, I'm absolutely loving seeing how the author actually managed to reference and hint and properly foreshadow stuff I genuinely assumed wouldn't be mentioned so early into the series when I started the 're-read'.

Some of the narrator's reading intonations when reading scene and character descriptions feel like they take some getting used to at times, but she is seriously *top class* when it comes to dialog and doing accents.

Having now finished volume 1 of the audio, I'd say the narrator (Katana Jones) is probably my favorite Audible narrator I've heard aside from Sean Pratt's top-class narration of Infinite Jest.

spectacularly dumb.

It's a pretty standard book for this particular genre. The protagonist is so overpowered that she could pretty much one shot everything and can do all the magics without any training better than everyone else. Though to be fair all you really have to do is be able to say the words and have an affinity for the magic type. Still it doesn't matter cause she gots all the affinities cause...izakaya. The weird adoration for sociopathic mass murders and rapists is still unfortunately alive and strong with this book. Oh, it tries to play it off and add a few throw away lines like consent... but only as after thoughts. The pedophile stuff gets really reallly REALLY grotesque. Yeah the protagonist finds out that dark elves have a natural childlike appearance even as adults. However she doesn't find out that fact until a bit later after she had already started having sexual desire for the CHILDlike elf. Also the elf is extremely traumatized and speaks and acts in a VERY childish manner. It's all very weird and super creepy. Warning there is even a full on sex scene soooo watchout for that ewwwwwwwwww. Sigh it didn't have to be creepy but the author really went out of their way to make it all as f***ed up as possible. Speaking of really stupid things the author wouldn't stop doing, pop culture references, hope you have extensive knowledge of anime and video games because they will be hinted at a lot and even used to convey ideas, descriptions, and pretty much everything else the author didn't feel like actually telling you about. "A certain...." has now become my ultra trigger phrase. To cap off the mountain of stupid, there are recaps of the story every couple chapters. Why? No idea padding the word count i guess.
The narration was awesome, loved the enthusiasm. However she kept pronouncing Chaos as Cowse for some reason i couldn't figure out.
Overall the book was really dumb, but then what does one really expect from this genre?

Loved this so much!

I'll keep it short and sweet. I got nearly every reference and loved the book. It made me laugh so much. I do find it a little difficult to tell the internal and external speech apart sometimes though.

Brain off

It’s a great brain turn off. I expected there to be more lewdness then the one vague sex scene that was narrated. Towards the end her repeated self reminders that she’s no longer a human and repeating the same line every time she thought that was annoying but maybe that’s just because I listened to the whole thing in less then 24 hours. I will say I’m eager to pick up the next one and dive into the magic
