Andy Kantar is the author of a trilogy of Great Lakes shipwreck books written primarily for young adults and read by audiences of all ages. The trilogy, published by Michigan State University Press, tells the stories of the three largest ships lost on the three largest Great Lakes: 29 MISSING (S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald on Lake Superior) was designated a Michigan Notable Book for Young Adults (1999), BLACK NOVEMBER (S.S. Carl D. Bradley on Lake Michigan) was a finalist for the Foreword Book of the Year (Young Adult Nonfiction, 2006) and nominated for the Great Lakes Book Award (2007), and DEADLY VOYAGE (S.S. Daniel J. Morrell on Lake Huron) was featured by the Michigan Humanities Council’s One Book, One County Reads (2009). Andy is also the author of GAME FACE, a middle grade basketball novel that received a Bronze Medal at the Moonbeam Children's Book Awards (2013) and was nominated for the Northeastern Minnesota Book Award (2013) in children’s literature. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and for more than 30 years was an English professor and director of the Writing Center at Ferris State University (Michigan). He also served two years as a Fulbright Scholar in Norway at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the University of Trondheim. Andy and his wife, Fran, have three children and live in Minneapolis. Fun fact: For three years Andy was Goldy Gopher, the University of Minnesota mascot.
