James Ory Theall is a native of South Vermilion Parish, Louisiana. He lives with his wife, Lorraine, in Longmont, Colorado. Lorraine is a genealogist and an award-winning author. Her first novel, Beginnings (available from Amazon), won the bronze medal for best fiction in the Midwest region, in the 2009 Independent Publishers competition. James admits that her expertise in designing, formatting, editing, and critiquing of his work makes the final product much more interesting to his readers. James credits her skills for whatever compliments his books receive. She is responsible for the photographs on the cover of his first two novels, and painted the picture used on the front cover of his third novel, The Clock Struck One. James graduated from Mount Carmel High School, Abbeville, Louisiana, in 1950. He chose a military career and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, but impending blindness forced him to retire in 1957. He attended Omaha University in Omaha, Nebraska, and worked as an accountant or controller in various retail businesses and the wholesale frozen food distribution business in Omaha. The Louisiana oil industry in the towns of Abbeville and Morgan City, afforded him controller positions in marine transportation, various other oil field related businesses, milk processing, and seafood processing, before blindness overcame his ability to continue as an accountant. He retired in 1990. Blessed with time on his hands and a screen-reader for his computer, he began the pursuit of his love for creative writing as a hobby and therapy to deal with the loss of his sight. He sold several short stories to a local Colorado periodical, The Prairie Times and he co-published with Lorraine, a compilation of his families’ histories in 2006. James is a member of the Longmont Writers Club since 2001. He contributed to the club’s anthology, “Reflections” in 2005, and “The Collected Writings of the Longmont Writers Club” in 2009. Both of these anthologies are available from Amazon. He and Lorraine serve as co-presidents of the Writers Club for 2011 and 2012. James Ory Theall's first novel, Cat and Dog, A Cajun Tale, is one of 500 entries chosen from the original 5000 entries for advancement to the quarterfinals in the 2010 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards (ABNA)competition. The Larry King Live website chose the novel as “Larry’s Pick” during the first week of February 2010. This quote from James is revealing: “I am born and bred Acadian, and I love writing. I am retired and financially comfortable. Why do I write? It is my passion, and I receive tremendous gratification and pleasure when people enjoy reading my work and give kind reviews.”
