Acerca de esta escucha

I thought I had everything: a devoted husband, and a magnificent new house for us to start a family in.

But the house had secrets. The former owner, whose stern portrait hangs in the library—I swear I can feel him watching me. Touching me. Wanting me.

I could convince myself it was all in my mind until I found out my husband cheated on me...but now, all bets are off.

Rough Ghost Lover is a sizzling horror that does not have an HEA (because you shouldn't sleep with ghosts...mostly.)

I think I have a new favorite subgenre. This was weird, wild and dirty in a few ways new to me. I'll be needing to read more ghost filth aggregate it looks like they can get up to a LOT of creepy, kinky bs. Here's to hoping this very filthy, horror adjacent book is just the tip.

What the what?

I liked this one. It was not too spicy but spicy enough. I really enjoyed the theme of the ghost getting together with the woman. She was into it...ok ok, so was I. I'd have done the same as she did. 😆

SPOILER AHEAD

And to be honest, I was totally hoping she'd stay there with him. Richard didn't deserve her.

I'm on team Master

so this book was kind of all over the place and so is the fmc, there's no real love interest and this definitely doesn't read like a "romance" I would say this is just a really interestingly strange ghost story with smut

that was a wild smutty ride

Fast paced, steamy at every turn, and perfect for spooky season. I love how nuanced the relationships were between the MC and the other characters. Daphne was easy to sympathize with. The twists at the end had me on the edge of my seat! The only thing I wish for is that it was longer and there was more backstory on the ghost! This was such a great narrative!

Loved This! Wish it was Longer!

The heroine: Daphne - she and her husband Richard just moved into a huge mansion in a remote area. Her husband wanted the huge place, but Daphne wasn’t sure what she wanted. When Richard had to leave right away on one of his many trips overseas where the bank he worked for sent him, Daphne was left to unpack and set up the house with only a few day servants for company. She wanted a baby to keep her company, but they had been trying for a while, and she still wasn’t pregnant.

The Hero: Ghost Lover - he is inside the mansion from day one. Touching Daphne, and she could feel him like he was really there. He is dominant, kinky and he gets the lonely woman to go along with everything he wants to do to her. I must admit that I wasn’t sure who or what the ghost lover was, I kept going back and forth thinking it was one of two people and/or things.

The Story: Daphne is quite lonely, and the ghost turns her on and keeps her company when there is nobody else. She likes everything he does to her and how he makes her feel. She feels even more for her ghost after finding out her husband has been cheating on her. She wants her ghost lover, but she also wants a baby, and she knows that a ghost can’t get her pregnant. She also knows that if she divorces Richard, he will sell the house, and she would lose her ghost. So, she stays with Richard in hopes of getting pregnant and being able to stay in the house that she has come to love.

This was a super steamy book, downright smutty actually. Though if you are in the mood for that kind of a story, this was a perfect one for that. The fact that Daphne was cheating on her husband bothered me at first, but since he had cheated first it didn’t bother me so much. What bothered me more was that she slept with Richard more than once which was kind of cheating on her ghost even if he knew about it all along. I just don’t like such messy situations, I guess. I did like the ghost lover angle, with the addition of BDSM and kinky situations, it was pretty hot. Though I did get tired of the smut, it was just one scene after another without much story in between, and I wanted to find out what happened.

The setup wild and fascinating. This story dove headfirst into the gothic and supernatural while mixing in some very modern emotional tangles. It’s not every day you get a love triangle between a woman, her husband, and a ghostly dom. Though, like I said, when the steamy scenes drown out the story, even a spicy premise loses impact. The tension of Daphne’s emotional loneliness, her ambiguous morality, and the house-bound stakes had the bones of something psychologically rich.

I think if the scenes had been more balanced with plot, maybe building up the ghost’s backstory or Daphne’s emotional arc, it would have felt more satisfying.

Also, the idea of staying in a toxic marriage just to keep access to a haunted lover is such a deliciously twisted motivation. There’s a ton of potential for deeper conflict there. Only some of that was included. Though there wasn’t enough story for me, I was kind of liking it until about an hour before it ended and that was where it just went to a place I didn’t like at all and turned into different kind of book altogether.

This audiobook was narrated from Daphne’s perspectives, done in solo narration by Cassandra Metcalf. She has a great voice and does a fantastic job. I usually don’t like solo narration, though with this one, I don’t know how it could be done differently. The ghost didn’t have a point of view and didn’t even speak, so it really makes sense for this one to be in solo narration.

What in the Patrick Swayze did I just read?
