Well, well, well—this is the smuttiest Cinderella story I’ve ever read 😅 and the book cuts itself off before she even gets to the ball. Le sigh. The evil step-sisters are replaced with rapey step-brothers, the step-mother is evil as always, and wow—this book made me realize just how very horrible Cinderella’s real father is in EVERY iteration of this old fairy-tale. How a girl with “daddy issues” is most likely the spawn of an ineffectual, quiet narcissist who is never blamed for not protecting his daughter at all—ever—from being tortured and abused in his own home. Neglect, omission, inattention—yeah, the remarried man with a daughter he doesn’t seem to know or see in a personal way is ripe for humiliation by the society she lives in—whether she works as a maid or not.

Oh, but I’m supposed to be talking about this version—so, “Ash” is the (barely) 18 yo protagonist who is discovered by a misogynist/sadist twice her age, and she is coerced into exchanging her beauty/power for cash. And humiliation.

Ash’s world is full of predators. She has a cute bird as a buddy, but her existence is bereft of joy, agency, friends… So: I was left wondering—what is the fairy tale? rich Man (eventually) marries poor girl? Except, she’s not poor, just poorly treated by her own family?

Ok, fine. I’m not supposed to do a close reading here. I think the author made some bold, smutty choices, and I liked the transgressive elements—especially within the Cinderella mythos. I just wouldn’t mind if the fairy tale was retired forever.

Dark Dark Dark Romance, with a lot of humiliation, forced control and abuse for the h. I would have enjoyed it more if the H was less abusive. Heading to book 2 for the HEA ending. It has to turn around sometime.

Who needs whispered sweet nothings when you could have Winston speaking the most deliciously degrading things to you all day?

This story was all sorts of hot hot hot and if d3gr@dat!on mixed with a little bit of praise is your k!nk then get ready to squirm. I adore Ash & Winston - their chemistry was instantaneous and so delicious. Ash is the perfect sweet brat and I love that she owned herself and her desires. Winston is utter perfection and unapologetically devious.

I have read this book 3 times and it gets even more sinful and delightful each time. The third read was completed via audiobook and 😮‍💨 the narration made it that much more depraved and I was here for all of it! It was my first time listening to both Lila Winters & Mason Lloyd but it absolutely won’t be my last.

17 year age gap? Humiliation kink 😏 Loved this! Hot and interesting from start to end; I like how there's more to this. The step-family members are as awful as they are always portrayed. Bad things better not ever come to Shrimp!! I need the next books!

I probably would’ve taken it better if I KNEW there was gonna be a cliffhanger, but unless I missed it when I read the description I’m sitting here pissed off for more reasons than one! 🤣

The writing for this good. And the narration is reasonable. Besides the cliffhanger, the only other issue is how Winston’s character is portrayed. How he is supposed to be such a badass when he couldn’t even recognize how real the danger was that Ash was in with the Terror Triplets? He was kinda weak to me for that, and made even the dynamic between them unbelievable.

Guess I’m off to see what the next book gon’ do…

I have read this book probably 6 times but this is my first time listening. It's a raunchy, dirty, sexy age gap/ maid-boss/ humiliation kink Cinderella retelling. Winston and Ash are two of my favorite characters ever. And the audio is perfection. Can't wait to listen to the next two!

I listen to way too many books and can put up with some truly bad narrators and still enjoy a story. I’m not even sure the narrators are bad per say but they do not fit the characters at all. I don’t know if it was the choice of narrators or just the dialog but their back and forth sounded so ridiculous. The MMC is supposed to a be a big shot CEO but he sounds even more petulant and immature than the insanely annoying MFC. I had to stop listening mid way through their first interaction before they ruined some of my favorite kinks.

So I gave it a second go and if you can make it past the initial meeting it does get better. The narrators actually do a decent job for the most part. L
