Historia
When the violent Cape wind blows from the southeast, they say the voices of the unquiet dead can be heard whispering through the deserted valley. Suzanne Joubert, a Huguenot refugee from war-torn France, is here to walk in her cousin’s footsteps. Louise Reydon-Joubert, the notorious she-captain and pirate commander, landed at the Cape of Good Hope more than sixty years ago, then disappeared from the record as if she had never existed. Suzanne has come to find her — to lay the stories to rest. But all is not as it seems . . .

Anthony Opoka and Florence Okori are coming of age in Uganda in the 1990s. Outstanding students, they believe in being good humans before they are kidnapped and forced into the fanatical Lord’s Resistance Army. In a legion of young recruits, no one gets closer than Anthony to powerful messianic warlord Joseph Kony and his darkest secrets. To stay sane as he spirals through chaos, Anthony clings to his childhood lessons about being a good human. Florence’s upbringing grounds her, too, helping her keep her dreams alive even as she’s pulled deeper into the insanity of Kony’s war.

Incredible story, amazing what people can go through and still be able to be good humans.
Revisado: 01-27-25
Couldn’t stop listening, shocking and so cruel the world they had to live in, but so heartwarming as well and the proof that in the end good overcome bad.
How Anthony and Florence could after everything still be positive and good humans.
Mark Sullivan is an amazing writer have loved all the books I have read by him and also had to search and learn more about the events. Highly recommend and o hope they make a movie out of this book .

What a life she had, great story and insight into life in early 1800
Revisado: 08-18-24
As I love historical novels but seem to always choose books about Europe, I really wanted a book about America’s history. Loved the book and the story about Patsy. So many things have changed from this time and it’s a good reminder on how lucky we’re today as women to have rights and freedom for all.
Highly recommend the book for anyone who wants to learn more about this time the French Revolution the independence war the changes from land owners …

Historia
When Browder’s young Russian lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, was beaten to death in a Moscow jail in 2009, Browder cast aside his business career and made it his life’s mission to pursue justice for Sergei. One of the first steps of that mission was to uncover who had killed Sergei and profited from the $230 million corruption scheme that he had exposed. As Browder and his team tracked the money that flowed out of Russia—through the Baltics and Cyprus and on to Western Europe and the Americas—they discovered that Vladimir Putin himself was one of the beneficiaries of the crime.

The story is amazing and scary how Russia operates and that we / western world didn’t see the truth colours before of the correction and the total lack of human respect.
On a note to the performer the accents are terrible, better not to try to do them at all. But over all a great book.
