Historia
Nobody needs telling there isn’t enough time. We’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. But such techniques often end up making things worse. The sense of anxious hurry grows more intense, and still the most meaningful parts of life seem to lie just beyond the horizon.

Wonderfully sensible

One of several recommendations via Peter Attia/The Drive podcast- the others being Die with Zero (Bill Perkins) and Strength to Strength (Arthur Brooks).
Fantastic group of reads to round out the perspectives of a middle aged grateful human.

Historia
President Lyndon Johnson was bigger than life - and no one who worked for him or was subjected to the "Johnson treatment" ever forgot it. As Johnson's "Deputy President of Domestic Affairs", Joseph A. Califano's unique relationship with the president greatly enriches our understanding of our 36th president. Califano shows listeners LBJ's commitment to economic and social revolution, and his willingness to do whatever it took to achieve his goals.

Nice summary of presidential years
Revisado: 05-13-21
I am doing a lengthy study of presidents- a biography on each and made it to Johnson #36. This era is fascinating so I started my Johnson journey with the 4 epic volumes by Robert Caro, only to discover after 100+ hours of audio that the final volume 5 had yet to be completed! Triumph and Tragedy by Robert Califano picked up nicely where Carl’s volume 4 concluded and did a stellar job of detailing the White House years.

Historia
John F. Kennedy died half a century ago - yet because of his extraordinary promise and untimely death, his star still resonates strongly. On the anniversary of his assassination, celebrated political scientist and analyst Larry J. Sabato - himself a teenager in the early 1960s and inspired by JFK and his presidency - explores the fascinating and powerful influence he has had over five decades on the media, the general public, and especially on each of his nine presidential successors.

The most comprehensive summary of JFK presidential events and legacy I’ve read yet. Not a thorough or even glancing summary of pre-presidential era. Very interesting and thorough review of JFK post-assassination politics and legacy issues. Interesting new viewpoints on the invocation of JFK by latter politicians snd the effect on the political scene of the era.

Deep dive

This bio is not for the casual learner! It details every ounce of history from Truman’s youth to his military career, political rise, presidency and afterward. Superbly done, as you’d expect from McCullough. Narrator was a bit slow, I listened at 1.7x and did not feel rushed.

Worst. President. Ever. flips the great presidential biography on its head, offering an enlightening - and highly entertaining - account of poor James Buchanan's presidency to prove once and for all that, well, few leaders could have done worse. But author Robert Strauss does much more, leading listeners out of Buchanan's terrible term in office to explore with insight and humor his own obsession with presidents, and ultimately the entire notion of ranking our presidents.

Well done account of an obscure legacy

Really well done and entertaining! Hard to get through some of the other texts on the presidents of obscurity. This one was a breeze.

Historia
Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.

First audible book I’ve done- absolutely captivating. Actually listened to it a second time and withdrew even deeper meaning than the first. An amazing story of an amazing man at a formative time in American history.
