Performed very close to the voices I heard as I original read this book. It contains such authentic history along with L’Amour’s characters, creating connection and an irresistible draw to the story. A truly gifted writer.

Great story but 6 hours is my max for Baldwin

I so want to hear the complete text of this book. I've listened to six hour but sadly can't listen to another 15 of Baldwin's narration. I am deeply interested in the subject matter and specifically in Dolan's book. Baldwin's voice is pleasant enough and I think he has potential to be quite good. His problems are correct word pronunciations. Many names of important players and many common words, common at least to those who would read books written at higher than an eighth grade level and, which contain a lot of military and government vernacular, are butchered so much so that one has to wonder if Baldwin even knows meaning of the words he's reading, let alone understand the meaning of the sentences in this book. Despite the frequent interruptions to the flow of his reading, the single word I find most distracting and which makes his reading no longer listenable for me is his pronunciation of the word "saw", which he pronounces as "saul". As you might imagine, this word is used a lot throughout a book where the major focus is on unimaginable craft, events, creatures and humanoids that people "saw". It's a simple word, one of which anyone who reads knows the spelling--and presumably can sound out. The word is "saw" not "saul". At every instance of "saw" we get "Saul". I find myself feeling so frustrated, even angry at the illiteracy and stupidness of the constant mispronunciation. may seem petty on my part but It's just more than I can listen to for another 15 hours. I would think it not only reasonable but a normal part of the process of publishing an Audible book to proof the reading, making even the simplest of corrections. Please, please, please have someone listen to a reading before putting a book online.

I’ve loved his music, at least what I knew of it—I thought I knew all his music. He is far more diverse in his music and message than I ever realized and his story is truly inspirational to me and,I expect, to anyone who listens. You who are searching for meaning, searching for your voice and purpose, even you who are frustrated or even despondent over your lack of progress or focus—there is something magical here. Listen—then let the demons loose!
Thank you, Tom.

Great story. The performance was mostly good except where verbal character identification and emotional delivery were inconsistent. Still, I was pretty immersed.

I’m sure Peter Ganim has delivered great reading if other books—he’s just not the right reader for Richard Marcinco’s books. After listening to the Rogue Warrior read his own books and feeling the emersion that one can experienced only by hearing the intangible— The true spirit of U.S. Navy Seals, steady, practiced and unwavering commitment to undertake and finish the job as told by one who had served in every role and, who requires no embellishment, drama or fanfare. Ganim delivers none of that this reading—instead he is over-dramatic to the degree that many seals and others come across as very in-seal like, even immature. He has different character voices which often sound so similar it’s hard to make character distinctions and, his foreign accents after so cliché they make those come across as slow and ignorant—by all of which I’m so distracted that i can’t enjoy the story. I’m not deterred by this particular reading and I have most of your books so i can always just read it myself.

A personal and captivating view into some of the experiences of the early years of James Taylor and informed his life and music. I’ve always loved his music and now feel an even greater appreciation for his immense gifts to the music of our lives.

Holy Cow what a great listen. The writing is fantastic—jamesE.Merl series a seriously good book: well written, historically accurate and with great storyline, character arcs and subtext. Chicago 1871 was compelling and I found myself making more time to work on my motorcycle just to hear the next acts of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed listening and found it interesting that, instead of chapters, this book was broken into scenes and acts—and this really added to the imagery and flow. The storyteller, Anthony LeRoy Lovato, delivered character voices which were so consistent I knew exactly who was talking. I don’t know how he’s able to make so many distinct voices and still be believable. Each voice was realistic and moved the story along with each character interaction, mood and emotion creating an irresistible listen. Most of all, it is his pacing that really glues everything together. Anthony an exceptional storyteller—I’m excited and anxious hear more from Mr. Merl and to listen to Mr. Lovato’s other current and future readings. Thank you, gentlemen, for this fabulous listening experience—one that is often missing in audio books.
