Identity problem

I really like Kristoffer Polaha as an actor, particularly in the 2023 Christmas movie set at the Biltmore Hotel. However, I found it very confusing at the start of this book hearing a male narrating the voice of Andy, the female heroine. It actually took me a while to realize it was a female, and I have over 1300 audio books in my library. It would have been more effective to have his female writing counterpart do the voice of Andy and wait to take his turn as the voice of Warren. Perhaps they can rework this if the second book has an audio version.

Another great view of WWII

Overall, it was excellent. I just had an issue with the audio levels. The 1940’s sound level was much louder than the 2019’s. I was constantly having to readjust it. That’s a comment for the production folks. The story and characters added another view of the tragedies and challenges of the war in France and done so well by Harmel.

A Fascinating Trilogy

The three books documenting the unusual investigations that Maggie D’arcy is drawn into are well written and narrated. The characters and relationships are interesting, and you can almost feel what it’s like to be in Ireland.

Raw, real, and fearless

Not since “A Child Called It” have I read something as openly compelling as Girl Unbroken. Rosie’s story could be the best thing for other children in a similar situation to read and know they are not alone. Well done, Rosie, and your siblings, too.

A very interesting story

Everything about this was great except for the lack of research on how place names are pronounced in Maine. Calais is actually “Callous”. For as often as it was used, it really bothered this New Englander that someone didn’t know better. Maine and New Hampshire have adopted many European place names and destroyed the pronunciations. Just be a bit more careful, whether the author or narrator. Otherwise an enjoyable story with typical Maniacs.

Always spot on

Kristen Ashley never disappoints. The meaning of family and trust are at the heart of this one. It’s hard to stop listening to one of her books, and they go much too fast. As a librarian, I loved Clara and tried to imagine fitting into such a different life. A great story.

Another great visit...

Listening to this In Death episode, it struck me that these amazing, unique characters is just like visiting with dear friends you haven’t seen in ages. You just pick up where you left off as if no time has passed. My favorite moment was when tiny Bella gives Dallas a finger painting and points out the people, including “Someshit” or Somerset...priceless! I laughed about it all week. Great heart, action, and characters and so well done.
