Great new narrator! Another great adventure
Revisado: 02-05-23
Love this series. Great adventure. Interesting characters. Clean and safe for kids. The new narrator is fantastic! He gets the characters right—his voices match the characters’ personalities. Looking forward to the final 2 books in the series and whatever E G Foley are doing next!

Historia
Three months ago, the horrible news that the Dark Druids captured his beloved pet gryphon sent 13-year-old Jake Everton reeling - especially since he knows he’s the one the warlock brotherhood really wants. It’s a trap, and poor Red is just the bait. Well aware of the threat, the Elders have forbidden the daring boy hero from taking any action to rescue his faithful companion.

Great book ruined by poor narration
Revisado: 02-06-22
This is another great book in a marvelous series. But the narrator was a poor choice. He does some men’s voices well and is even very good at a few (Shemrazul, Ebrahim, Tex). But he misses on others and struggles mightily with women’s and children’s voices. His voices do not match the characters’ personalities. Strong Derek sounds weak and old. Confident Maddox has morphed into a sullen version of one of the Beatles. Strong women (Lady Bradford and Ravyn) sound wimpy. Nixie sounds drugged and whiny. Gladwin sounds like someone is mimicking her voice to mock her. His accent for Aleeyah inexplicably switches between some unknown accent and Dani’s Irish brogue. I listen to audiobooks because I enjoy them. This was not enjoyable. If they stick with this narrator for the remainder of the series, I will pass on the audiobooks and just read the books. Fortunately, Audible allows returns with refunds.

In The Bible in a Year podcast, Fr. Mike Schmitz walks you through the entire Bible in 365 episodes, providing commentary, reflection, and prayer along the way. Unlike any other Bible podcast, Ascension’s Bible in a Year podcast follows a reading plan inspired by The Great Adventure Bible Timeline, a ground-breaking approach to understanding salvation history developed by renowned Catholic Bible scholar Jeff Cavins. For each period in the timeline, Jeff will join Fr. Mike for a special episode that will help you understand the context of each reading. With this podcast, you won’t just read...

What I needed in 2021
Revisado: 02-14-21
How many times have I started reading Genesis in January and given up on Leviticus in March? Lots of times. This podcast is the way to “read” the Bible. Listen to Father Mike read in an order that makes sense and presents the Bible as a storyline rather than separate disjointed chapters. Plus, Father Mike explains the confusing parts. I look forward to my 20 minutes a day with Father Mike and the Bible. And, this time, I will make it through the Bible in a year. Not just make it through to make it through. Instead, I will learn about my faith a little more every day. Brilliant idea. Fantastic podcast. Thank you, Father Mike!

Historia
A serious attack against Christianity by well-known newspaper editor Robert Blatchford in 1903 impelled Chesterton to seize the gauntlet of refutation. His reply was immensely successful and was the early formation of his convincing credo that is so brilliantly and cogently argued in Orthodoxy, a masterwork that was published just five years later.

Indispensable
Revisado: 09-13-20
This book is a classic for a reason. Chesterton was a master at breaking down complex issues into understandable bits by using everyday examples. While the examples of his day are not the same as those of our day, nearly all of them can still be understood. It is also useful that he had a great wit, so he doesn’t bog down the reader (or listener) with too much dry information. Whether you are a Christian or a skeptic, you will learn something from this book. And Simon Vance is a wonderful narrator.
The only negative here is that, once again, the book is not broken down properly into chapters. The book has 9 chapters, but the Audible narration breaks it artificially into just 6. Very frustrating. Audible has this problem often, and I don’t understand why. They even have this problem with their own Audible Originals!

Maps have a mysterious hold over us. Whether ancient, crumbling parchments or generated by Google, maps tell us things we want to know, not only about our current location or where we are going but about the world in general. And yet, when it comes to geo-politics, much of what we are told is generated by analysts and other experts who have neglected to refer to a map of the place in question.

Can’t believe I love a book about politics & econ
Revisado: 06-20-20
How is it possible that I, a person who hates everything about politics and is put to sleep by economics, loved this book? It is masterfully written. Politics and economics are woven into history and geography in a way that is understandable for everyone. And the narrator somehow managed to read this book so that it sounded more like an adventure story than a textbook. I learned a great deal about how the world works and why. It reminded me that to truly understand a person (or a group, or a government), it is indispensable to know something about where they come from. Bravo to author and narrator. Dang. Really amazed by this one.

This book (and the whole series) has everything you want in youth fantasy: mythical creatures, kid heroes, villains, adventure, friendships, laughter. The narrator is perfect. So wonderful to have a fantasy series for kids without profanity or anything inappropriate. Of course, I’m an adult, and I love these stories!

Terrifying narration!
Revisado: 05-14-20
The narrator should be reading horror stories. He sounds like a psychopath who sneaks up and grabs someone from behind and then whispers horrifying threats into the victim’s ear while holding a knife to the terrified person’s throat. Just a few minutes of this was enough to give me nightmares. How is the content? I have no idea. I was too busy freaking out and tearing my headphones off.

Overall fun but you’ve read a similar story before
Revisado: 03-07-20
Overall, this book was fun. However, it’s highly derivative of Harry Potter although not as good as this author is no J K Rowling. There are orphans (or maybe they aren’t?), mistreated kids, a big and burly good guy, time travel, an old professor, etc. There is some originality. Jim Dale is one of the best narrators ever, but he was a poor choice here. Female voices (especially young girls) are not his strong point, and two of the main characters here are young girls. A female narrator would have been a better choice. Also, this is an American story not suitable for a British narrator. I enjoyed this and I’m not sorry I listened to it, but there are better books out there such as the Harry Potter series and the Peter and the Starcatchers series (both brilliantly narrated by Jim Dale).

Every day we work hard to motivate ourselves, the people we live with, the people who work for and do business with us. In this way much of what we do can be defined as being motivators. From the boardroom to the living room, our role as motivators is complex, and the more we try to motivate partners and children, friends and coworkers, the clearer it becomes that the story of motivation is far more intricate and fascinating than we've assumed.
