Historia
At the end of three long wars, Bellusdeo is the last of her kind, the sole surviving female Dragon in the City of Elantra. When she appears one evening on the doorstep of her former roommate, Corporal Kaylin Neya, her demeanor is dreadful—more so than what’s expected of the Dragons’ notoriously tempestuous temperament.

Revisado: 08-10-24
I very very much. enjoy these books but I will admit having listened to them multiple times each time. a new book in the series comes out since there's frequently a long wait between one book to the next. I was getting a little annoyed in the amount of whining that Kaylin was doing. I believe Michelle West writing as Michelle Sagara to be a very decent well-written and an excellent story building author; however, in several of her recent books I felt that Kaylin was never going to grow up or mature emotionally. Each prior book she would discover that when it came it time for her to act she would always get into these why is everybody picking on me, woe is me, I don't know how to use these marks, or I really should be more responsible. Worse yet she would be forced to confront something that would remind her of Stephie or Jade and we would end up down a spiral of self loathing of herself and to a certain amount Severin. I can't say that me myself I could do completely move on either but sometimes when I look at Severin's side of things I know he dearly loves her, has for years, and feels like he needs to protect her but I also think having been in her head enough times I wonder why he doesn't lose it.
I'll admit I was getting very close to giving up on this series even though I overall enjoy the storyline because of the direction or lack of direction or lack of improvement that the main character was experiencing. because no, she is no longer a mascot. maybe that's my own age showing. all that said, I actually liked the storyline that has been introduced with Imelda and am kind of curious where this will go. I believe that there is enough of a buffer and the storyline moved in around enough that we didn't get the whining or at least I didn't feel encumbered by any of her persistent doubts and self self-loathing in this this or the last book. I am actually looking forward to the next book. I just hope it doesn't takes as long for the next book to come out. I know Ms. West is busy writing her other series as well, but now that she's become a full-time author, I hope we will see more books coming out in the future and more frequently. Because as a whole she really is one of my favorite authors.
As always I Ms Hvam knocks it out of the park. I believe she is one of the better narrators out there for female voices. as far as pitch, clarity and ease of listening. I think the emotion comes through with her portrayals of each character.
(forgive any grammar issues I was using speech to text and had a cat using my arm as a pillow but wanted to get this out as soon as possible before I get distracted).

Historia
In the city of Elantra, the law is upheld by a few groups, and the most feared are the Wolves—the Emperor’s executioners. The newest member of this elite force is Severn Handred. Granted a leave of absence to pursue information about his unknown past, Severn joins a mission to an enclave well outside the boundaries of the Empire. And he will be in danger the entire time. Still, the instincts that led him to the Wolves and the sense of duty that keeps him there can’t be discarded as easily as the tabard he wears.

fans of the cast series, this is a great filler
Revisado: 07-18-22
I will admit in the cast series. I often think Severn Handred gets the short end of the stick. he is such an unappreciated character in the series that is integral to the success of all of the adventures that Caitlin has. whether she's aware of it or not. I'm glad that Ms Sagara has gone back and started filling in the time of Severn as he joined the wolves and how some of his own backstory leads to his ability to be the person he is. it's not easy to be the supporter. the defender, the person who is the pillar of and backbone of somebody who has a lot of power into struggling to learn how to use it is series has showing us how he has developed his own ability to wield weapons. he should not as a human or pass through life without a true name, but be able to speak to those who do. it actually makes me wonder how she's going to interweave some of the stories of the time that he's a part from Caitlin while she stumbles along. how much of Severn's story will be revealed in the books ahead.
while it is not necessary to have read all of the cast series, I actually would recommend reading the cast series first before the wolves not necessarily because Caitlin is so much more important, because I think the introduction you get in all the cast series helps with minor details of the world understanding. For example, at this point in either it first two books are the elders referred to in any way. other than that they came before everything and that they could have helped. not that they created the worlds or the species and you get a better understanding of the shadow and why it's creeping into the green is so important. that seems skirted by in this book and can give you a better understanding of why the green is having issues and factions are starting pit against each other.
Albany said I absolutely Ms Sagara ability to weave together a story then powerful enough and colorful enough to engage the reader both on an intellectual as well as for the love of reading.
I do enjoy the narration, I have yet to listen to a book Ms Hvam has completed that I haven't enjoyed. Her cadence, alliteration, and pitch are easy to follow and a joy to listen to all while making the characters come alive in our ears.

I had sworn off most YA novels that involve people in their teens because at this point in my life I realize I lived through middle school and high school awkwardness I don't need to do it again.... for the love of god find yourselves and throw out the will he or won't he I'm not worthy for 2/3 of the book. okay, all that said this series actually had that teen who was a little unsure but not a door mat. The writing was well composed, and easy to navigate with no glaring grammar issues. The author does an outstanding job creating the world and allowing the reader to carry on with the scene at hand and within the context of the book. She also did a good job being able to follow along and keep up with the multitude of characters throughout the book.
As for the narrator, Ms Startup, she is why I got this book in the first place. I have listened to a couple other series with her as the narrator and I think she does a very professional job bring the characters to life. She seems to have a way with maintaining the various intonations so that it is easy to know who is talking and what is talking place at the time. So I enjoy listening to her.

Historia
"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes. A do-over. This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at 40 I'm ready to carve my own path. Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills.

not real sure what to think
Revisado: 04-17-20
in general I'm a fan of everything that KF Breene writes and have listened or read most of her books/series more than once. part of what I appreciate is KF Breene's ability to pull off a well-written, well developed story, with strong female leads all while balancing just the right amount of humor. This book delivers in many of those facets but from a personal level I did not engage enough with any of the characters to the extent that would make me want to buy future books. so while I enjoyed the book to a certain extent it failed to draw me in enough to the series for a future sales. I was satisfied with the conclusion that it came to and can see how some will rave especially since there are so few strong female leads who embrace and hold up their middle age as something to be proud of rather than a desperate need to recapture our youth and celebrate only being bold beautiful and young.

1st time I both loved and hated the book
Revisado: 11-05-19
I will endeavor not to give any hints away about what happens in this book since you can probably read other reviews to get an idea. what I will say is that I appreciate Ms Neill's ability to create a story and world building ability. it is easy to believe that in some alternative way if vampires and shape-shifters existed and it was known to the public, how we as a society might react both good and bad. I do appreciate the fact that Ms Neill is willing to challenge convention of an expected PNR. it wasn't easy to read the first time but I have mad respect for any author willing to challenge expectations. I think Ms Holloway does a remarkable job with all the characters in this series and embodies Merritt.

1 of the most emotionally charged books I've loved
Revisado: 07-11-19
I am a huge Anne Bishop fan I will admit. I believe she is one of the premiere authors who is capable of not only creating worlds in stories that capture the raiders imagination but does with style and grace. I fell in love with her serious the books some 10 years ago and have listened to her books multiple times. well the books may not be for everyone the series should be able to capture a wide variety of interest for anyone interested in fantasy and RPG type books. she does a great job in this in character development in plot development Andrew to a certain extent if you pay attention into the political aspects of trying to subvert people we don't agree with or taking advantage of people's need to blame others. this book is a culmination of the trilogy and is full of action and adventure, where she doesn't spare the reader from the realities of battle and it's aftermath. if you're like me you may find yourself grabbing a Kleenex or two and hoping at the end that the survivors find the peace they need and a life worth living. I think I've listened to this serious three times so far and have never regretted listening to it more than once I enjoy listening to the narrators take of the story and believe he did a great job capturing the characters as the other laid out.

As with all anthologies some are better than other
Revisado: 06-12-19
Overall this is a good collection of four books put together in the anthology. The authors did a decent job with building the stories and the characters enough to allow the reader/listener to envision the worldscape and plot line that the various authors had intended. I believe based on the narrator that there were no huge glaring issues with regard to spelling or grammar, but since I didn't read the book myself I cannot attest to this. that being said I did enjoy the narrator. I think she did an excellent job bringing the various characters voices to life and distinguish each character accordingly. I would listen to other books that she narrated. I will admit I am biased in that I probably enjoyed the novelette by GA Aiken the best since it gave some backstory to the dragon kin series. I enjoy her books and find her characters to be intensely amusing and easily envisioned to be real life, character flawed, all around enjoyable to listen to and root for as they meander true life. Let's be honest, you could envision dragon boys shoving each other at the window and laughing or daring each other to break through the wall with their heads just to prove it can be done. So, enjoy the four books in this series perhaps you will find a new author you hadn't heard before and will enjoy.

Revisado: 06-07-19
normally I will default to purchase Ms Lace's books because she does a decent job building a story is pretty thorough in her grammar and spelling and writes characters that can entertain for a while however this particular book was not up to her standards. it's almost felt as if someone else wrote this. I had a hard time enjoying or caring about the characters they or at least the writing almost seemed like a first run juvenile attempt at an adult PNR which was weird given her previous books.
***"""spoiler - please don't read on if you don't want to have a clue what will happen....sorry I couldn't convey my issues without revealing some of the plot****
The female protagonist seems at times to care and not care that she was tricked and then oh well I'll just go with the flow because we must save the children or child. I had a hard time envisioning any woman getting over that type of betrayal and 5 minutes later decide to Sally forth to let him off the hook as quick as she did. So the premise of the book fell Short early on and I never saw any redeeming qualities other than the kid which....(grrr)

Love Grace Craven books but this one was not as great
Revisado: 03-22-19
Two major issues took this to an Average book for me. In general I find Mrs Craven does an excellent job at storybuilding , grammar and engaging me the listener and for the most part she successfully completed all three areas I typically use in evaluating books. My issue with this came in the weakness of one secondary character to destroy the strength of the surrounding characters and weaken what she spent time building. I can see where others will see it very different than I and I can respect their view. The other issue is the narrator, to me was the wrong voice. She is a good performer (emotion and easy character voice distinction) but not the voice i heard when I originally read this becoming so I found the narrator didn't add much to the performance for me.
