Good story, bad narrator
Revisado: 11-30-18
I find myself getting frustrated as I listen to the story by the narrator's inability to maintain a consistent accent and tone for each character. It also grates on my nerves when the narrator, due to this inconsistency, uses something like a cockney accent for a character that should be speaking with a more refined genteel accent. There are constantly moments when I think a new character is speaking because of this. I almost don't want to even finish this book, but I'm holding out hope that the story is good enough to make up for the bad reading/acting.
This book has a different writing style than the books it was spun off from, but, the character development is good so I'm left wanting to know how they change. Half way through. fingers crossed

Historia
If the past is prologue, then George R. R. Martin's masterwork - the most inventive and entertaining fantasy saga of our time - warrants one hell of an introduction. At long last, it has arrived with The World of Ice & Fire. This volume is a comprehensive history of the Seven Kingdoms, providing vividly constructed accounts of the epic battles, bitter rivalries, and daring rebellions that lead to the events of A Song of Ice and Fire and HBO's Game of Thrones.

This is not really good in Audiobook form
Revisado: 11-01-17
While I enjoyed this, I would not recomend this in audio book form. As this is supposed to appear as an Anthology created by a Maester, the text jumps around a lot and is hard to follow at times. I would recommend this in ebook or hardcopy form though.

Revisado: 04-30-17
To Mayte:
As a Prince fan, thank you. As a person, thank you. It seems that writing and recording this book has helped you in your life. After listening to your book, I feel like I cherish the one that I love even more now. Thank You for that. I am happy that your life is coming back together after the things that you have endured.
To readers:
Even if you were able to forget about Prince the entertainer and replace him with Joe Dirt, this book is a very interesting listen. There are life experiences and life lessons to be gained from this book. All in all, it shows that everyone goes through things and these things manifest in different ways for different people.
Life is too short. We need to be good to one another. We need to realize that we are all human and we are not perfect. Some times the struggles prepare you for the joys and happiness that you are to receive.

More to the story thank the Show presents.
Revisado: 03-24-17
I really like the first season of the show. It was a little cheesy at times and some of the plot lines were rushed. i do like how their deviations from the book were informative and actually added to the story. I was holding out on the second season until I could get through this book.
As always, the book is better and I am excited to get to the second major book. This is my fill in series until I can get the next book in the Tale of Fire and Ice (Game of Thrones).
The twists in the book are un-expected and alarming sometimes, but in a good way. At least Miller's character really has a Dick Tracy flair to him that I like. He is by far my favorite character. I already have book 2 and three queued up.
Happy Listening.

Neal Stephenson is a blazing new force on the sci-fi scene. With the groundbreaking cyberpunk novel Snow Crash, he has "vaulted onto the literary stage." It weaves virtual reality, Sumerian myth, and just about everything in between with a cool, hip cybersensibility - in short, it is the gigathriller of the information age.

As raiders and explorers, the Vikings played a decisive role in the formation of Latin Christendom, and particularly of western Europe. Now, in a series of 36 vivid lectures by an honored teacher and classical scholar, you have the opportunity to understand this remarkable race as never before, studying the Vikings not only as warriors, but in all of the other roles in which they were equally extraordinary - merchants, artists, kings, raiders, seafarers, shipbuilders, and creators of a remarkable literature of myths and sagas.

Very interesting but too much to take in at once.
Revisado: 09-26-16
It is very apparent that this was meant to be a college course lecture. There is a lot of information to take in and you really need some reference material to follow along.
Overall, I learned stuff, but it was definitely a chore to keep up with. I not recommend this as a commuter audio book. I often found myself drifting off into thought about totally unrelated subject matter.

These 24 lectures are a vibrant introduction to the primary characters and most important stories of classical Greek and Roman mythology. Among those you'll investigate are the accounts of the creation of the world in Hesiod's Theogony and Ovid's Metamorphoses; the gods Zeus, Apollo, Demeter, Persephone, Hermes, Dionysos, and Aphrodite; the Greek heroes, Theseus and Heracles (Hercules in the Roman version); and the most famous of all classical myths, the Trojan War.

Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....
