Historia
First came the development of the Personality Matrix Construct—PMC, transferring human consciousness into a machine. It changed the galaxy and the way wars were fought. Then something went wrong with PMCs and the Federation Wars toppled the galactic order. PMCs became a menace to be hunted and exterminated.

Zero likable characters
Revisado: 05-02-23
Honestly everyone in this book are bad people, even the "hero" who is a condescending jerk to everyone pretty much all the way through. I just wanted them all to die at the end.
Narrator did a great job.

If you are here wondering if the politics from the last series continued, they happily do not. This series is one big long running space battle.

Historia
We had 20 short years of peace. Twenty years to put worlds back together. Twenty years for Captain Vin Husher to convince us the aliens would return. We didn’t listen. Warmonger, we called him. Washed up, we called him. But now, the enemy has returned, with high-tech weaponry well beyond anything of which humanity has dreamed. If Husher and his ragtag crew can’t manage to stop them, they will smash us.

Takes a hard right
Revisado: 06-23-22
I bought all the series after listening to the first, but this one made me regret that. I tried to listen in-character as Husher, as he is a military man and therefore more likely to hold right wing views. However the entire story followed that arc and not just his internal thinking, so that went right out the window.
Mild Spoilers:
When they planned to evacuate and therefore seized all private ships to aid in that evacuation, he rants about how unfair that is for a long time.

Historia
With their vast cargo holds and a crew that could fill a city, the Greatships are the lifeblood of human-occupied space, transporting an unimaginable volume - and value - of goods from City, the greatest human orbital, all the way to Tradepoint at the other, to trade for xenoglas with an unknowable alien species. It has always been Marca Nbaro's dream to achieve the near-impossible: escape her upbringing and venture into space.

Fantastic, but wish I knew it wasn't a standalone
Revisado: 01-21-22
The book ends on a pretty solid cliffhanger, and I generally don't listen to books in a series until the series is completed. It says at the end of the book that the story will be concluded in the second chapter, so if you are like me and don't like leaving and then trying to pick up who knows when, you might hold off. Nothing is really resolved in this book.
That being said, it's fantastic. Great characters with actual development, sci-fi battles without being a space opera, and a pleasing and engaging reader. I was already wishing there WOULD be a second book before I was halfway done, so I guess I will be getting my wish.
I just hope I can remember to come back when that day comes.

Historia
The year is 2312. Scientific and technological advances have opened gateways to an extraordinary future. Earth is no longer humanity's only home; new habitats have been created throughout the solar system on moons, planets, and in between. But in this year, 2312, a sequence of events will force humanity to confront its past, its present, and its future. The first event takes place on Mercury, on the city of Terminator, itself a miracle of engineering on an unprecedented scale. It is an unexpected death, but one that might have been foreseen....

Goes nowhere slowly
Revisado: 11-04-19
Maybe this works better in book form, where you can easily skip long sections of boring futurology, the story advances maybe 30 minutes for every 3 hours. It may have one of those fantastic endings that totally makes it worth it, but if so I couldn't get there.

Avoid this series, the books decline in quality
Revisado: 10-02-19
This first book is pretty good, and I had high hopes for the series. The young protagonist is learning in this book, and growing up in bad circumstances, so yeah, life is hard. That's how a lot of great books start off, but in those good series the protagonist learns, gets stronger or smarter, but generally starts shaping the world around them to be a better place.
Not here, I made it halfway through the third book when I realized I had started to hate him. He never gets better, he keeps doing dumb things and I got to the point where I just didn't care what happened anymore. Everyone in his life is terrible to him, everything that happens to him is terrible, and I finally just decided the series was terrible too. I asked for a refund on the third book and I generally finish any series I start. The worst part of it is that the first half of the second book makes you think he had found his rhythm and we were about to get into the meat of things, but no. I know a lot of people here will argue it's realistic, but if I wanted unfair realism with terrible people I would just watch the news.

Historia
King Shrewd is dead at the hands of his son Regal. As is Fitz - or so his enemies and friends believe. But with the help of his allies and his beast magic, he emerges from the grave, deeply scarred in body and soul. The kingdom also teeters toward ruin: Regal has plundered and abandoned the capital, while the rightful heir, Prince Verity, is lost to his mad quest - perhaps to death. Only Verity's return - or the heir his princess carries - can save the Six Duchies.

Fitz never gets any better
Revisado: 10-02-19
Everyone is terrible to him, he constantly makes terrible decisions, and I just plain gave up on him too. I am a person who normally finishes any book I start, especially in a trilogy like this, but I asked for a refund. Most good fantasy has a character arc where they learn, become stronger, have setbacks, but finally overcome their weakness and prevail. I realized I was rooting for someone to kill Fitz so I wouldn't have to hear him complain and still suck so hard at everything.

Hard to keep track
Revisado: 06-26-19
I thought it was an interesting story, but it changes time and characters so abruptly that I was constantly having to go back and relisten to parts. Definitely a book you have to pay close attention when listening, not one you can multitask.

Historia
Legion Dark Ops calls upon Chhun, Wraith, and the survivors of Victory Company to form an elite Kill Team of legionnaires in the aftermath of the Battle of Kublar. Their mission is clear: find and eliminate those responsible for the Kublar disaster. Standing between them and their objective are a maze of corrupt Republic officials, a spy on the verge of losing himself in deep cover, and the Zhee - a murderous species that will stop at nothing. But the biggest threat of all might be the truth they seek to uncover - a truth that could ignite a revolution. And engulf the galaxy in flames.

Series jump, but it connects amazingly, eventually
Revisado: 12-27-18
The first part of this is a memory that appends the original story for connection's sake, but you can see the "surprise" a mile away, yet it's still satisfying. The second part relates to a new part and includes its own (incredible!) great space battle. The author borrows a ton from already-tread ground, but it's all the best parts of sci-fi that you have previously loved. If you at all enjoyed the last part, definitely buy this one too, it's better than the first two. I bought the next part myself in great expectation.

On the edge of the galaxy, a diplomatic mission to an alien planet takes a turn when the Legionnaires, an elite special fighting force, find themselves ambushed and stranded behind enemy lines. They struggle to survive under siege, waiting on a rescue that might never come. In the seedy starport of Ackabar, a young girl searches the crime-ridden gutters to avenge her father's murder; not far away, a double-dealing legionniare-turned-smuggler hunts an epic payday; and somewhere along the outer galaxy, a mysterious bounty hunter lies in wait.

Star Wars/Firefly Cheesiness, Good Popcorn Book
Revisado: 12-19-18
Don't go looking for a ton of depth here, but it passes the time fairly enjoyably. It's two books in one, with a somewhat difficult to understand transition between the two. The first is definitely the more serious, military-style fiction about a last stand. The second one gets pretty campy with some seriously stolen ideas from all of your favorite sci-fi shows. I really got a Firefly vibe from the second book. The ending is a serious cliffhanger, so it's a bit of "in for a penny, in for a pound", (as I buy the next audiobook in the series) but overall it was worth the credit.
R.C. Bray could read the dictionary in an enthralling manner, the performance is top-notch.
