Well developed & entertaining. It took me a few starts to get into the story, but then it kept my attention. Not a typical story & it had some unexpected twists.

Original, easy to listen to
Revisado: 03-08-25
I love when I can start listening to a new book, without having to rewind 20 times before I really get into it. This one kept my attention and was just what I needed between other genres I usually listen to.
The plot is unique and the characters are well developed. The author does a very nice job of building the story. The narrators do a great job. They may have too slightly mature sounding voices for college age adults, but not so much that it’s super distracting.

Historia
When Sienna Walker is nearly fired from the NYPD, the last thing she expects is a second chance in the one place she vowed never to return to. But she can’t afford to turn down the job offer, even if a painful familial past and a broken engagement hardly make Reno, Nevada, home sweet home. It’s made even less sweet by Sienna’s first case—a serial killer with a curious fixation on her. Along with his victims, the killer leaves perplexing clues and chilling journal entries addressed to Sienna detailing the murders he claims his mother committed.

Kept my attention, entertaining
Revisado: 12-10-24
I blasted right through this listen, which was great. It was entertaining. Characters well developed, twisty plot, but wish female narrator was a little less sing-song’ish, elevated at end of each sentence thought. But, pleasant enough voices.

I also believe Angels are all around us. Each of us needs to learn how to tap into their willingness to help. The narrator does a great job & it is well written, with great stories & prayers anyone can apply right away.

The story is an easy listen. I was entertained, interesting twist at the end. A wee bit far fetched at times, but the author is a good writer and builds the scene very nicely.

Historia
Cyril Avery is not a real Avery - or at least that's what his adoptive parents tell him. And he never will be. But if he isn't a real Avery, then who is he? Born out of wedlock to a teenage girl cast out from her rural Irish community and adopted by a well-to-do if eccentric Dublin couple via the intervention of a hunchbacked Redemptorist nun, Cyril is adrift in the world, anchored only tenuously by his heartfelt friendship with the infinitely more glamourous and dangerous Julian Woodbead.

I wanted to like this, but it just was not interesting.
Revisado: 05-15-24
I thought this would be a fun story to listen to, situated in Ireland. The narrator is ok, The author is detail oriented in describing the characters, not much imagery which I had hoped for. There’s a lot of sexual innuendos, but they aren’t thrilling. They feel like they’re just there, but with empty meanings, including a lot of gay fantasy. And, it’s somewhat depressing. None of that bothers me, except it’s a constant theme and it’s not mentioned in the description. Maybe it’s normal in a young boy’s life, but some of it started when the main character was only seven years old. I think some may find it offensive.
And, I wish I hadn’t wasted a credit! I kept having to start, rewind, listen again, because it just did not grip my attention! And, returning it is not an option.

I really enjoyed this book!!
Revisado: 04-24-24
This is an endearing story of hard times where perseverance was key. Innocence lost to a degree but somehow the story kept uplifting me. So many stories about The Great Depression only tell the horrid aspects, which this one definitely included, but it is also full of rich histories and people with good character who saw each other through one of our darkest periods. The glimpse into the Indian “Schools” told a story of horrific abuse, and it makes my stomach turn to know there are/were bad people capable of thinking that way. I highly recommend!

Great thoughts/ideas! But!!
Revisado: 03-25-24
This is full of motivating, great ideas. But I was tired of the racism innuendoes throughout & by the time, “oh yeah, systemic racism!” I was of over it. I’m so sick of politically charged EVERYthing! Why can’t something just be good & be full of bipartisan inspirational ideas. This author is half black, so it means she’s half white. I don’t even GET why it matters!!?? And, I’m so over listening to how hard it is for women, it just muddies the idea behind this book! I am a biological woman who has a successful business & not once have I felt a man kept me from charging ahead. I loved many of her ideas but I just don’t want to hear all the bologna on how women & people of color have to work twice as hard, every where I go. Those days should be behind us! Can we please just focus on positives? These messages just divide us all further & I refuse to be “the victim.” This would be a phenomenal listen without all those things.
