Historia
When shadow warrior and former Tier One Navy SEAL John Dempsey goes undercover to meet with a Vory arms dealer, he thinks he’s laying the groundwork to penetrate the Russian criminal underground. Instead, he walks into a trap orchestrated by Zeta, the secret Russian task force behind a recent assassination attempt on the US President. For Dempsey and his team, the only way out is to lay waste to the Russians, putting a target on Ember’s back.

Historia
A Night in the Pech Valley is Grant McGarry's account of what it takes to become an Army Ranger and what life is like in the 75th Ranger Regiment. More importantly, it is about an operation in the most dangerous terrain for US forces anywhere in the world. The Pech Valley is surrounded by Taliban-filled mountains on the Pakistan border in the Kunar Province, where the mountain peaks push 10,000 feet.

Not great
Revisado: 12-31-19
I’m sure it was cathartic for McGarry to write this but it’s not really a book length story. There was about 10 minutes worth of the action he sets out to tell. The rest is a rather uneventful and uninteresting story of a young soldier’s 4 years on active duty.

Historia
Half a century after the Doomsday Battle, the uneasy balance of Dark Forest Deterrence keeps the Trisolaran invaders at bay. Earth enjoys unprecedented prosperity due to the infusion of Trisolaran knowledge. With human science advancing daily and the Trisolarans adopting Earth culture, it seems that the two civilizations will soon be able to coexist peacefully as equals, without the terrible threat of mutually assured annihilation. But the peace has also made humanity complacent.

Epic saga
Revisado: 10-09-19
This last book in the trilogy if even more epic than the first two put together. I enjoyed the trilogy but it did sometimes drag on with excessive detail and explanation. It’s also a bit difficult to keep all the characters straight through 60 odd hours of narrative. Finally there are many threads of the narrative that go nowhere. Still I highly recommend the books.

Complex narrative arc
Revisado: 04-10-19
This is a highly enjoyable book, well performed with a tight story. Very well thought out and complex story. My only quibble is that there are long stretches in the book where the author explains things to the reader rather than let the actions do this. And some of those long explanations are more detailed than is probably necessary. Still, I’d recommend it to science fiction fans and who like the emphasis on the science.

Throughout the Gulf War of 1991, unprecedented restrictions on the media’s access to the battlefield kept the true story of that brief, brutal conflict from being told. Now, after two years of intensive research, Rick Atkinson has written what will surely come to be recognized as the definitive chronicle of the war.

Detailed military history
Revisado: 03-26-18
Like everything Atkinson writes, well researched, thorough, and detailed. I’ve listened to most of his work. This is just as good as his other stuff. Riggenbach did a good just with the narration but the a long pauses peppered throughout. I assume they indicate new paragraphs. They are a little off putting but not ruinously so.

Historia
The Presidents Club was born at Eisenhower’s inauguration when Harry Truman and Herbert Hoover first conceived the idea. Over the years that followed - and to this day - the presidents relied on, misunderstood, sabotaged, and formed alliances with one another that changed history. The world’s most exclusive fraternity is a complicated place: its members are bound forever because they sat in the Oval Office and know its secrets, yet they are immortal rivals for history’s favor.

Quirky but interesting view of history

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Not what I expected but enjoyable
Revisado: 07-08-17
I guess I didn't spend long enough checking this book out before getting it. I was under the impression it was more of a story than it turned out to be. What it really is vignettes from the author's life, interspersed with personal observation, statistics, and results of sociological studies, on the plight of hillbilly America. It's interesting and somewhat heartbreaking. The author narrates and dies a great job of it. I think I learned a lot about a world I hardly know.

Not great literature but enjoyable
Revisado: 05-19-17
It's a bit like an old Tom Clancy novel. Lots of details about technology and tactics. Not great character development and what there is isn't terribly convincing. Nevertheless I enjoyed this novel and have gone on to listen to the next book in the series.

In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Historia
On June 13, 1966, men of the 1st Recon Battalion, 1st Marine Division were stationed on Hill 488. Before the week was over, they would fight the battle that would make them the most highly decorated small unit in the entire history of the US military, winning a Congressional Medal of Honor, four Navy Crosses, 13 Silver Stars, and 18 Purple Hearts - some of them posthumously.

Padded and stilted
Revisado: 02-05-17
It felt as if the author's first hand account of this ferocious battle wasn't enough to make a whole book, so the story is drawn out by interspersing it with asides on the history of the marine corps, the Vietnam War, and America in the 1960's. But little is done to connect the historical asides to the bigger story. There is no real attempt to reconcile the author's experiences with what we now understand of America's experience in that war. Plus, much of the language sounds like a B movie script. I was expecting better and was a bit disappointed. Unless you are a total buff of the genre, you can safely pass on this one.
