Good but problematic
Revisado: 02-03-23
This was harder to listen to because of the social media focus at reading all the tags, email and twitter addresses, etc., and I recommend listening at at least 1.25 or more to get through it. Are JK Rowlings editors afraid of her? This book suffers from the same affliction that some of her Harry Potter books did - just so much stuff that is completely unnecessary to the story and adds hundreds of pages. I like the series but boy was this one a slog because it wasn't well edited. She also needs to figure out Cormoran and Robyn's relationship because after all these books it's getting mighty old, the same thing over and over.

Historia
If there’s one trait that makes someone well-suited to comedy, it’s being able to take a punch - metaphorically and, occasionally, physically. Told with a healthy dose of self-deprecation, A Very Punchable Face reveals the brilliant mind behind some of the dumbest sketches on television, and lays bare the heart and humor of a hardworking guy - with a face you can’t help but want to punch.

If you need to laugh, this is your book. Interesting about the industry, his life and family, and just so well told.

Historia
Never before has such an account of mountaineering triumph and tragedy been told from a woman's point of view. By proving that women had the skill, strength, and courage necessary to make this difficult and dangerous climb, the 1978 Women's Himalayan Expedition's accomplishment had a positive impact around the world, changing perceptions about women's abilities in sports and other arenas. And Annapurna: A Woman's Place has become an acknowledged classic in the annals of women's achievements - a story of challenge and commitment told with passion, humor, and unflinching honesty.

Great story, needs a different narrator
Revisado: 12-31-20
Generally I liked the narrator's voice but she seemed to always be reading with a smile that felt inappropriate for this genre. A voice with more confidence and determination would have fit the subject matter and people much better. That said, a great book and a great story full of challenges and it made me supremely happy for the accomplishments and extremely sad that in 2020 we are still having these inane conversations about where a woman belongs and what she is capable of every day.

Historia
At 28,251 feet, the world's second-tallest mountain, K2 thrusts skyward out of the Karakoram Range of northern Pakistan. Climbers regard it as the ultimate achievement in mountaineering, with good reason. Four times as deadly as Everest, K2 has claimed the lives of seventy-seven climbers since 1954. In August 2008 eleven climbers died in a single thirty-six-hour period on K2–the worst single-event tragedy in the mountain's history and the second-worst in the long chronicle of mountaineering in the Himalaya and Karakoram ranges.

Compelling and illustrative climbing narrative
Revisado: 05-11-18
I enjoyed this. Beautiful insight for those of us not compelled to climb, but who appreciate the ones that do. Vicariously suspenseful, but with closure as much as history and evidence will allow.

For Kitty Doe, it seems like an easy choice. She can either spend her life as a III in misery, looked down upon by the higher ranks and forced to leave the people she loves, or she can become a VII and join the most powerful family in the country. If she says yes, Kitty will be Masked - surgically transformed into Lila Hart, the Prime Minister's niece, who died under mysterious circumstances. As a member of the Hart family, she will be famous. She will be adored. And for the first time, she will matter.

Solid narration; Entertaining
Revisado: 06-24-17
I thought the narration was very "real" and tone fit the story well. Good listen even if it isn't the most incredible story I have ever heard. Entertaining.
