Stories are worth putting up with the performance
Revisado: 08-22-18
The stories were quite entertaining and I liked the "repeat business" aspect where Holmes works with old clients. You get a bit of whatever happened to so and so after the case was solved. The narration was quite off-putting. I gritted through it for the sake of the stories, but if you have a choice, get the book and skip this audible rendition.

When Vee is picked to be a player in NERVE, an anonymous game of dares broadcast live online, she discovers that the game knows her. They tempt her with prizes taken from her ThisIsMe page and team her up with the perfect boy: sizzling-hot Ian. At first it's exhilarating - Vee and Ian's fans cheer them on to riskier dares with higher stakes. But the game takes a twisted turn when they're directed to a secret location with five other players for the grand-prize round.

Wow!

I had seen the movie (I see a lot of movies that I wouldn't normally watch because I donate plasma 2x/week) and was intrigued. On a whim, I thought I'd listen and am glad I did. The plot was slightly different than the movie (which was good) and absolutely riveting. I'm a high school teacher and think this would be very appropriate for a class - it deals with all sorts of issues of belonging, trust, friendship, risk-taking etc. Well worth the listen.

Absolutely enchanting

The author tells a story while weaving into it a tutorial on perfume. Each section relates to the "unfolding" of a perfume when it is applied to the skin. I also like the story of Paris and the various ex-pats that inhabited it pre/during WW2. Very well done.

Breathless and painstakingly researched, this is a stunning debut mystery in which Sherlock Holmes unmasks Jack the Ripper. Lyndsay Faye perfectly captures all the color and syntax of Conan Doyle’s distinctive nineteenth-century London.

I'm on a Holmes kick at the moment and this was a great treat. I think I saw a movie where Holmes was involved with the Ripper case, but either way, this was well done.

New Perspective
Revisado: 08-08-15
I had read this book when it first came out and enjoyed it. Years later I did a mid life career change, went back to school to be a cook. I listened to this book with a new perspective and understanding. I'm 57 and starting out in the basement with that pile of potatoes and love it.
