Historia
The final novel from a great American storyteller. Donal Cameron is being raised by his grandmother, the cook at the legendary Double W ranch in Ivan Doig's beloved Two Medicine Country of the Montana Rockies, a landscape that gives full rein to an 11-year-old's imagination. But when Gram has to have surgery for "female trouble" in the summer of 1951, all she can think to do is to ship Donal off to her sister in faraway Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

Historia
It is September 1919: Twenty-one-year-old Tristan Sadler takes a train from London to Norwich to deliver a package of letters to the sister of Will Bancroft, the man he fought alongside during the Great War. But the letters are not the real reason for Tristan's visit. He can no longer keep a secret and has finally found the courage to unburden himself of it. As Tristan recounts the horrific details of what to him became a senseless war, he also speaks of his friendship with Will - from their first meeting on the training grounds at Aldershot to their farewell in the trenches of northern France.

Heartbreaking
Revisado: 12-04-23
I knew going in that this was to have no happy ending. The sample, the narrator held me, so I downloaded it,,,
And could not stop listening. Finished the same day I started. A good portion of the book I spent with my head in my hands, trying to comfort my heartache. Still could not stop listening. This author and this narrator have moved me more than any others and I’ve read and listened to thousands of books over the years (in my 70s). I don’t do much tv, I love books. This author and narrator are now at the very top of my list. This story will never leave me. I am so thankful to audible “included” for introducing me to these two artists!

Very enjoyable continuation of Norm’s story line
Revisado: 10-08-23
I have read all the Slater&Norman series and enjoyed them. Found the character driven police procedural very enjoyable. I came to “know” Dave & Norman. Had since switched mostly to audio books. Recently downloaded this on kindled unlimited and accidentally discovered the audio book ON SALE and immediately purchased it. #2 is available for free on the included section, which I have downloaded and am starting on now. I like that PF Ford delves into the characters lives as much as the crime AND that his stories feel very true to life, the people and the crimes. Like that Norm is back at work where he belongs! I’ll probably be doing some back to back PF Ford for a bit, just not always on Audible. Have to keep tabs now on Norm and his new “family”. Enjoyed this narrator, his voice for Norm is perfect.

Excellent
Revisado: 05-07-22
A tad slow in beginning,,, then totally engrossing. This will stay with me till I die I believe. Story tells history, of time and place, and human interaction, good and bad. The story is BRUTAL, SO VERY SAD and very moving, and VERY BEAUTIFUL. I listened to this for free on audible plus but will also be purchasing it, I want to own it so I can enjoy again whenever I want. Narrator also excellent and will check into what else she has done. You won’t be sorry investing in this book.

Historia
Welcome to Grouse County - a fictional Midwest that is at once familiar and amusingly eccentric - where a thief vacuums the church before stealing the chalice, a lonely woman paints her toenails in a drafty farmhouse, and a sleepless man watches his restless bride scatter their bills beneath the stars. At the heart of The End of Vandalism is an unforgettable love triangle set off by a crime: Sheriff Dan Norman arrests Tiny Darling for vandalizing an anti-vandalism dance and then marries the culprit's ex-wife Louise.

INTERESTING
Revisado: 02-27-22
This isn’t exactly a “normal” type of book. It does not really have a plot to it. But it will hold your interest and keep you going back to it. It is about life, real life. It has tense moments. Funny, stupid moments, endearing moments. There is sadness that will break your heart and fear for a young couple in dire circumstances. It didn’t seem to end so much, more the story just stopped. I wish there was more, if we are lucky there might be a sequel to this book. In the meantime we can imagine the future of these people lives however we want, they seem so real. I really enjoyed this story.

Average ww2 story
Revisado: 01-20-22
I just don’t understand the 5star reviews at all. I will say enjoyed that it is centered on Hungary and the people, did learn things I didn’t know, which is always good. But this story is no more compelling than most ww2 stories I have read which has been many. It is NOT as compelling many others. It is a good story. But MUCH too long. Could have easily been cut in half at least. The first half gets so bogged down it gets tedious and boring, almost returned it after 10~12 hours! Left it several times and went back later,,,, but just didn’t live up to those in my opinion. Most of the time I knew what was going to happen before it got there. Not the first time I’ve been disappointed in raving 5star reviews, wonder if those are all “real”. Actually wish I had about 20 of those hours back.

Historia
How did America end up with a leader who acts so crudely and despotically, and counter to our democratic principles? Why do his followers stick with him, even when he acts against their interests? John Dean, a man with a history of standing up to autocratic presidents, joins with Bob Altemeyer, a psychology professor with a unique area of expertise: authoritarianism. Together, using psychological diagnostic tools, as well as exclusive research and analysis from the Monmouth University Polling Institute, the authors provide us with an eye-opening understanding of the Trump phenomenon.

FALSE ADVERTISING
Revisado: 01-16-22
4 plus hours in of an 11 plus hour book, is all about trump himself, NOT about the people that continue to follow and back him and his BS. NOTHING new here. I purchased this book, it said about understanding these people WHY they seem to considered him a demigod, and possibly how to relate to them. Will update this, the next chapter starts by mentioning his base,,,, NOT AT ALL IMPRESSED WITH THIS SO FAR, and if doesn't get to the purpose of the book quickly AND makes some sense, will return !
FOUR HOURS out of 11 hours of info already knew, info NOT ON POINT of subject as advertised is unacceptable.

not finished, will update
Revisado: 11-25-21
only half way through and feel a little bad for the three stars, BUT even as it is a pretty good story so far, much on the entire trip from the beginning to her life after,, the way the jumps in time (before and after of many years ) is TOTALLY CONFUSING causing WAIT, WHAT moments, backing up to get your sense of where you are, because there is NOTHING AT ALL hinting at the change, your in the mountains then your in California with her married with children,,,,
makes you lose the whole thread of the story. I've put up with it because the trip part of the story is very interesting, even though we know of its tragedy. If even only a date was given at the beginning of the change of the time period would make a world of difference! This would easily be a solid 4 maybe nearly 5 star. But am afraid that the time period problem will remain for the whole book. Is truly a shame. Will update when finish.

dissapointing
Revisado: 06-26-21
book ended when she was about 30 years old, before she even became empress. she was not first german empress and was only empress for about 99 days. the summary of this book is misleading to say the least. I bought on sale, was not worth it, much less a credit. dont understand the high ratings, I found it boring even tedious. Narrator had pleasant voice at least.
