Amazing story

AWESOME...It had suspense, intrigue, and most of all...heart. One of the best books I've read over my many years.

Descriptive narrative

This narrative pulled you into the story laying bare the frailties of mankind. What I felt strongly is that mankind can rarely be lumped into all or all bad. There many complexities that go into the analysis. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and didn't want the story to end.

An engaging book

This book kept me turning the pages. It portrayed the difficulties of war, the will to survive, the strength of love, and the choices that had to be made to survive. I thought it was beautifully written. It portrayed Christian ethics as well as the fallibility one can experience in life or death situations, themselves or their loved ones.

A very touching story

This story pulls at the heart. Because of the subject matter, there really wasn't a "happy" ending, per se. I thought the ending was sad but touching, which is true to form with that period of history.

An enjoyable read

I looked forward to reading this book. This is one of my favorite topics to read. But I found that the book was lacking something (for me), and sometimes it was hard to keep my focus on the book. If you like Orphan Train history, the book is a good read.

Engaging “coming of age” story

I enjoyed the story about “coming of age” during a very familiar moment in time to me. Based on some historical points and generalities, I do believe Starla and I would have been the same age.

Engaging story of “coming of age” in a time where addictions were prevalent

This was a moving story about Demon and his friends/family navigating the dangerous waters of their “coming of age” during a very confusing time of life. This time period was filled with drug and alcohol addictions. Before I read the book, I saw that they encouraged you to read David Copperfield first, which I did. Demon’s story loosely follows David’s story, with adjustments to the more modern time period. But I did see many similarities between the two books…characters and names. While I enjoyed this book, Dickens’ David Copperfield is my favorite.

One of the best books I’ve read

I love the story of Ove. I had watched the original Swedish movie before reading this book. And yet, the book presented additional layers of Ove story.

A wondrous “journey” and book

I give very few 5 star reviews, but this book deserved it. It’s one of the most unique books I’ve read. It wasn’t a “feel good” book, but it’s contents warranted merit. There were times of happiness and times of tears, and everything was wrapped in “heart”. When a book makes you “feels things”, that is a good book in my opinion. I also would like to acknowledge the narrator.
