I didn't have any expectations about this book and it truly surprised me. Shona is such a talented and witty story teller that she had me on the edge of my seat, making me feel as if I had been there with her.
Her message is refreshing and insightful. I admire her tenacity and determination and seeing how she's using her voice to normalize so many aspects is refreshing. She's eloquent and has a strong foundation to propel her forward. I found her story to be truly inspiring and perfect to propel me through my own path.
I loved this book and I think everyone should read it. There are so many lessons to inspire anyone.

Historia
Our brains do their best to help us out, but every so often they can be real assholes - having meltdowns, getting addicted to things, or shutting down completely at the worst possible moments. Your brain knows it's not good to do these things, but it can't help it sometimes - especially if it's obsessing about trauma it can't overcome. That's where this life-changing book comes in. With humor, patience, science, and lots of good-ole swearing, Dr. Faith explains what's going on in your skull, and talks you through the process of retraining your brain to respond appropriately....

Candid, useful
Revisado: 01-01-23
Faith's candor on subjects we normally lack enough insights to understand makes navigating through the human experience much easier.
I find the content of her book to be on point and I think everyone can pick up a thing or two from it, specially learning how to contextualize subjects such as anxiety, addiction and depression.
As much as I enjoyed her approach, I find the quality of the audiobook 's narration was poor, as she sounded as if she were reading from inside a cave and sometimes overlapping audio edits made me loose focus on the intended message.

Stephen R. Covey's book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, has been a top seller for the simple reason that it ignores trends and pop psychology for proven principles of fairness, integrity, honesty, and human dignity. Celebrating its 15th year of helping people solve personal and professional problems, this special anniversary edition includes a new foreword and afterword written by Covey that explore whether the 7 Habits are still relevant and answer some of the most common questions he has received over the past 15 years.

Simple steps to learn how to cope with trauma
Revisado: 09-09-22
I really enjoyed this book. In times of chaos and overwhelm, lots of Dr. Leaf's advice can be broken down into simple steps to help contextualize and acknowledge what causes us to react or feel a certain way.
Really enjoyed learning about different kinds of trauma and the importance of recognizing these moments and giving them the importance they deserve.

Historia
At work, we’re taught to lead the conversation. On social media, we shape our personal narratives. At parties, we talk over one another. So do our politicians. We’re not listening. And no one is listening to us. Despite living in a world where technology allows constant digital communication and opportunities to connect, it seems no one is really listening or even knows how. And it’s making us lonelier, more isolated, and less tolerant than ever before. A listener by trade, New York Times contributor Kate Murphy wanted to know how we got here.

Historia
Eight-year-old orphan Beth Harmon is quiet, sullen, and by all appearances unremarkable. That is, until she plays her first game of chess. Her senses grow sharper, her thinking clearer, and for the first time in her life she feels herself fully in control. By the age of 16, she's competing for the US Open championship. But as Beth hones her skills on the professional circuit, the stakes get higher, her isolation grows more frightening, and the thought of escape becomes all the more tempting.

Because once she began this life-changing journey in earnest, Samantha realized that while the emotional trials of gender dysphoria and self-discovery could be harrowing, there were so many laugh-out-loud moments along this winding road.

Historia
Building on the principles found in his father’s best-selling book The Four Agreements, don Miguel Ruiz, Jr., invites us to gauge how attached we are to our own point of view. In The Five Levels of Attachment, he will help you gain awareness of the agreements you have been implicitly making all these years that shape your reality and affect your future and show you how to release the attachments which no longer reflect who you really are.

The art of letting go. Toltec wisdom is incredibly similar to Buddhist teachings and I found that Miguel Ruiz Jr. really conveyed the importance of letting go and continuous introspection. There are many parallels, which could be drawn between both philosophies, something that I personally find fascinating!
On a note purely associated with the Audiobook version: I think the narration would had been best done by a Mexican-American.

Creativity, Inc. is a manual for anyone who strives for originality and the first-ever all-access trip into the nerve center of Pixar Animation - into the meetings, postmortems, and “Braintrust” sessions where some of the most successful films in history are made. It is, at heart, a book about creativity - but it is also, as Pixar cofounder and president Ed Catmull writes, “an expression of the ideas that I believe make the best in us possible”.
