Perfect Mexican daughters do not go away to college. And they do not move out of their parents' house after high school graduation. Perfect Mexican daughters never abandon their family. But Julia is not your perfect Mexican daughter. That was Olga's role. Then a tragic accident on the busiest street in Chicago leaves Olga dead and Julia left behind to reassemble the shattered pieces of her family. And no one seems to acknowledge that Julia is broken, too. Instead, her mother seems to channel her grief into pointing out every possible way Julia has failed.

What a wonderful story. I like that it mentions what is going on every year because I like to relate it to what I was doing each of those years.Very touching. Very real. Very different kind of love story. I loved it for more reasons than just that it’s a good story.

Historia
Alyssa Milano, actress and activist, delivers here a collection of powerful personal essays that get to the heart of her life, career, and all-out humanitarianism. These essays are unvarnished and elegant, funny and heartbreaking, and utterly real. A timely book that shows in almost real time the importance of taking care of others, it also gives a gut-punch-level wake-up call in an era where the noise is a distraction from what really needs to happen, if we want to live in a better world.

Every one but especially every woman should read this book. Also, even if it’s just parts and pieces, make your republican “philosophical rivals” or those who are unsure about which way they lean but truly care about our country, read or listen to this book. True eye-opener and solidifier of the truth of what our country was, is and can be. There is still hope. There will always be hope as long as some of us still think like Alyssa. Let us not give up hope. Let us not give up on our country.

Historia
In this collection of essays, renowned social-justice advocate Tim Wise confronts racism in contemporary America. Seen through the lens of major flashpoints during the Obama and Trump years, Dispatches from the Race War faces the consequences of white supremacy in all its forms. This includes a discussion of the bigoted undertones of the Tea Party’s backlash, the killing of Trayvon Martin, current-day anti-immigrant hysteria, the rise of openly avowed white nationalism, the violent policing of African Americans, and more.

Best book ever!
Revisado: 12-07-21
This book is a great continuation to Dear White America. I was hooked from the start. What an elegant yet in your face way to tell a story. A true story. The story of what we’re living today. I’ve never liked history but through Tim Wise and some other notable authors, I am learning to actually learn from REAL history and enjoy it. I was sad and angry and inspired all at once with this book. As a Mexican-American daughter of immigrant parents, I have to say that this book should be read by ALL. Our society is misinformed or not informed at all and sadly this creates and/or encourages racist people and behaviors. I have the hard copy of this book now as well and I plan to pass this book around to as many people that will read it. I will push my people to read it, to my sons and their fiancé and girlfriend so that they can feel safe and confident that their opinions and stance on so many controversial issues are valid and this will give them the knowledge to share with the rest of the world. My sons and daughters out there trying to make this world better. My heroes. I will also share this book with all my stubborn and I’ll- informed family members and friends in the hope that they will open their eyes to reality and hopefully start to change their ways before it’s too late. As Tim Wise says at the end of this book…”let it at least be said…we did not go quietly.”

Historia
When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn't think it's love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

Historia
White Americans have long been comfortable in the assumption that they are the cultural norm. Now that notion is being challenged, as white people wrestle with what it means to be part of a fast-changing, truly multicultural nation. Facing chronic economic insecurity, a popular culture that reflects the nation's diverse cultural reality, and a future in which they will no longer constitute the majority of the population, and with a black president in the White House, whites are growing anxious.

I couldn’t stop listening. I’ve never been a fan of history and I can see why. As a Mexican American woman in my 40’s, I was born and raised reading and learning “white -washed” history. I, myself, have been guilty of perpetuating some of the erroneous “history” and beliefs that have been instilled in me all my life. I learned so much with this book. I will be buying the paper copy for my library and sharing it with everyone I know.

This book will make you laugh, cry, think and feel all the feelings. I am buying this book for my two sons (20 and 22) and gifting it to them. They grew up with a not so present dad after our divorce when my youngest was 9 months old. So they only have my female perspective on life and what it is to be a good young man. I love my boys so much and I can only pray that they remember the good things I taught them and learn from mom’s very human mistakes. May they always know that they are “man enough” but most importantly that they are deeply and unconditionally loved and that they are “ENOUGH”. 💕🙏🏽💕
