Historia
Maine, 1789: When the Kennebec River freezes, entombing a man in the ice, Martha Ballard is summoned to examine the body and determine cause of death. As a midwife and healer, she is privy to much of what goes on behind closed doors in Hallowell. Her diary is a record of every birth and death, crime and debacle that unfolds in the close-knit community. Months earlier, Martha documented the details of an alleged rape committed by two of the town’s most respected gentlemen—one of whom has now been found dead in the ice.

Very important book for parents, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, lovers of history, and of early American medicine.

Loved it. Please listen to it. This is a book that addresses the interactions that exist in every society, at every time. This book takes place in America in the 1700’s, but could take place at any age, from what I know.

I liked the very human story of the characters, the redemption after loss, the timelessness of love, heartache, hope, fear and humanity found. I enjoyed it. I hope you do, too!

From the author of the “engrossing” (People) and “poignant” (Booklist) international best seller The Room on Rue Amélie comes a remarkable and moving story of love, danger, and betrayal: two women in France in the darkest days of World War II and another in present-day America on a quest to uncover the secret that connects them.

Very good historical fiction
Revisado: 01-10-25
I enjoyed this very much. It was recommended by a friend. I think she has excellent taste. This is a stain on our world’s history. Power corrupts, and absolutely power corrupts absolutely.I’ve heard that for most of our life. That is true, but there is also love, unending and a redemptive power. I recommend this to all of you.

One of my favorites

I know I say that a lot. I truly enjoyed the sense of community, the archeology of book, Cady getting a job offer to go back to Wyoming. It was a fun adventure. That took the steam out of Michael’s tragic death

Historia
Ten years ago, Craig Johnson wrote his first short story, the Hillerman Award-winning "Old Indian Trick". This was one of the earliest appearances of the sheriff who would go on to star in Johnson’s best-selling, award-winning novels and the A&E hit series Longmire. Each Christmas Eve thereafter, fans rejoiced when Johnson sent out a new short story featuring an episode in Walt’s life that doesn’t appear in the novels; over the years, many have asked why they can’t buy the stories in book form.
