It is 1667, and the war between the Dutch and the English continues apace. Sir Francis Courtney, his son Hal and their crew are carried around the southern tip of the African colonies by the good ship Lady Edwina, licensed to attack and seize the treasure-laden ships of the Dutch East India company. horrible narrator
Revisado: 02-28-25
The narrator is simply horrible. Very monotonous, he sounds bored (which I understand with this story) and he is irritating to listen to. I've listened to this book for about 8 hours but I just couldn't tolerate it anymore. Also, I've read a couple of Wilbur Smith's books (Courtney series) but this one I couldn't finish. The story & characters just bored me, it is a repetition of all of his other novels, only more stretched out and boring. I honestly wanted to give this a chance, but my time is more precious than this. There are so many better books to read than this mediocre story.

A poignant reminder of the power of forgiveness
Revisado: 10-13-23
A genuine, raw, beautiful, heart-wrenching, poignant and uplifting testimony. Amidst all the horrors, wars, hate and injustice in the world, her book is a very poignant reminder of why hate leads nowhere but more hate, tragedy and despair and why forgiveness is the only path that can lead to peace - in one's own self as well as in the world. We would all do well to ponder this story in our minds and hearts and try living in a way that incorporates its lessons into our own actions, thoughts and lives.

Historia
Tom Felton’s adolescence was anything but ordinary. His early rise to fame in beloved films like The Borrowers catapulted him into the limelight, but nothing could prepare him for what was to come after he landed the iconic role of the Draco Malfoy, the bleached blonde villain of the Harry Potter movies. For the next ten years, he was at the center of a huge pop culture phenomenon and yet, in between filming, he would go back to being a normal teenager trying to fit into a normal school. Speaking with great candor and his signature humor, Tom shares his experience.

A very enjoyable read!
Revisado: 09-12-23
A very enjoyable read! I listened to Tom's autobiography on audible, in his own narration and found it absolutely delightful! I loved the HP universe going up (who didn't) and I kind of knew he was a down-to-earth guy, but I was not expecting to be this entertained by his book. He is VERY humble, very honest about his mistakes and shortcomings (to a point where I started to admire him for his braveness to come to terms with such a straight back with his strenghts & weaknesses, it is truly very inspiring!) and alltogether comes off as a really decent guy. His writing is eloquent, intelligent, nuanced, humourous and very entertaining. On the one hand it is a light, entertaining read but at the same time, there are some complex, deeper topics he talks about and a lot of important lessons can be learned from his experiences. I recommend it to people from all ages and backgrounds.

Historia
Jesus' treatment of women was revolutionary. That's why they flocked to him. Wherever he went, they sought him out. Women sat at his feet and tugged at his robes. They came to him for healing, for forgiveness, and for answers. In Jesus through the Eyes of Women, Rebecca McLaughlin explores the life-changing accounts of women who met the Lord. By entering the stories of the named and unnamed women in the Gospels, this book gives listeners a unique lens to see Jesus as these women did and marvel at how he loved them in return.

A breath of fresh air!
Revisado: 09-12-23
This book is a breath of fresh air, that offers a refreshingly new, yet theologically correct perspective on the Gospels and the way we see Jesus Christ through the eyes of women around him, as well as the way we see women. Rebecca McLaughlin's writing style is entertaining, easygoing, nuanced, thought-provoking, humble and very human! It gave me a lot to think about and made it a lot easier to relate to the events and teachings of the Gospels and made it easier to build a deeper cognition and a living relationship with Christ. 10/10!

don't waste your time
Revisado: 04-26-23
Very poorly written, pretty boring and unnecessarily filled with the author's woke politics. Other than the character names this has nothing to do with Star Wars. It is more of a teenage girl's fanfiction than a novel.

boring and infantile
Revisado: 03-28-23
It is absolutely not worth listening to this book, There is no real story and most of the bokk feels more like something a teenage girl would write as a fanfiction, rather than a story from the Star Wars universe. Also, the author is pushing her lmbtq agenda shamelessly and forcedly, which makes it an even less enjoyable read. Padme's handmaidens are either in love with her or each other (including an implied romance between a 12 year old girl and another handmaiden, which is just simply tasteless). The worst book I've come across in the Star Wars universe so far.

The company of the Ring is torn asunder. Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin - alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go. This continues the classic tale begun in The Fellowship of the Ring, which reaches its awesome climax in The Return of the King.

Revisado: 03-06-22
I have listened to every single audiobook version of all of Tolkien's works, and Andy Serkis' version is BY FAR the best! He truly does justice to this beloved, epic tale.
I was amazed throughout the book of how similar he makes the characters sound to their movie version. At times it is almost impossible to tell whether it is Sean Bean / Ian Mckellen/ etc or Andy Serkis speaking!

Enchanting novel
Revisado: 01-28-15
Truly fascinating novel, very realistic, intelligent and enjoyable throughout the whole book! I loved the characters, the adventures, the very natural and enchanting way Diana Gabaldon writes, the whole 18th century set, the romance and Claire's narration - especially the way Davina Porter read it. She's done a wonderful job with all the different accents from scottish to french, portraying every charachter uniquely and transmitting all the emotions wonderfully. It was a pleasure to listen to, I strongly recommend it!
