Main Character was lame
Revisado: 06-13-18
It was just okay. Characters had no depth. Main character was not true to life. Story idea was good. Reader did not have distinct voices, very limited.

Historia
The Bell Jar chronicles the crack-up of Esther Greenwood: brilliant, beautiful, enormously talented, and successful but slowly going under - maybe for the last time. Sylvia Plath masterfully draws the reader into Esther's breakdown with such intensity that Esther's insanity becomes completely real and even rational, as probable and accessible an experience as going to the movies. Such deep penetration into the dark and harrowing corners of the psyche is an extraordinary accomplishment and has made The Bell Jar a haunting American classic.

Dissappointing
Revisado: 03-06-18
What disappointed you about The Bell Jar?
The main character. She was self-absorbed.
Would you ever listen to anything by Sylvia Plath again?
No.
What three words best describe Maggie Gyllenhaal’s voice?
Monotone which may have been on purpose but it was dry.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disgust in the fact here was someone who squandered opportunity. Lived in the same era as other women making strides. Because she felt stifled she just withered through most of the story. Boo hoo life is unfair.

Awesome book - entertaining and practical
Revisado: 09-01-17
What made the experience of listening to 10% Happier the most enjoyable?
The author had the same questions I had concerning meditation. He made it more practical and understandable.
What was one of the most memorable moments of 10% Happier?
His struggle with mediation at the retreat. His text of what was going through his mind.
What about Dan Harris’s performance did you like?
The inflection with the content.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, but it is a book I will listen to over and over. It had a great message that has already helped me!
Any additional comments?
Thank you Dan Harris!

Historia
We are accustomed to think of sociopaths as violent criminals, but in The Sociopath Next Door, Harvard psychologist Martha Stout reveals that a shocking 4 percent of ordinary people, one in 25, has an often undetected mental disorder, the chief symptom of which is that that person possesses no conscience. He or she has no ability whatsoever to feel shame, guilt, or remorse. One in 25 everyday Americans, therefore, is secretly a sociopath.

Reminded me of college lectures
Revisado: 09-01-17
What disappointed you about The Sociopath Next Door?
The same thing was repeated over and over again, i in 6 people are sociopaths. Okay we get it but why and how and what do they do? Very superficial, no depth. The title was very misleading.
Would you be willing to try another one of Shelly Frasier’s performances?
No. Very soft and went with the boring content.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
It made me remember why I feel asleep in my Psychology lectures in college.

How could the performance have been better?
better women's voices and more distinction between character voice and narrative.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Not for me.
Any additional comments?
Could have been much more - was not well-developed. The focus was too narrow for me.

Historia
Mackenzie Allen Phillips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation, and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later, in this midst of his great sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack one wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change his life forever.

Sunday School Class
Revisado: 06-27-17
What disappointed you about The Shack?
It was not a novel but a Sunday School Class. No development of characters, no plot. Short book summary did not give a true description.
How could the performance have been better?
Reader did not do women's voices very well. His style would fit teen books.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment that I used a credit!
Any additional comments?

Historia
Juliet Beckett believes in destiny. When she moves into Greywethers, a beautiful 16th-century farmhouse, she suspects that more than coincidence has brought her there. The locals are warm and welcoming; especially the eligible squire of Crofton Hall, yet beneath the ordinaries, Julia senses a haunting sadness about her new home. Then she learns of Mariana, a beautiful young woman who lived there 300 years ago. It seems history has been waiting for Julia...

Not as good as the Midwife's Revolt
Revisado: 07-21-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes
What other book might you compare Our Own Country to and why?
The Midwife's Revolt is book 1 in the series. I liked both books but I had trouble seeing Our Own Country's main character, Eliza, as the same person portrayed in The Midwife's Revolt.
Have you listened to any of Cristina Panfilio’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes - both were good.

Historia
What’s a sweets-loving young boy growing up gay in North Carolina in the '80s supposed to think when he’s diagnosed with type-1 diabetes? That God is punishing him, naturally. This was, after all, when gay-hating Jesse Helms was his senator, AIDS was still the boogeyman, and no one was saying, "It gets better." And if stealing a copy of a gay porno magazine from the newsagent was a sin, then surely what the men inside were doing to one another was much worse. Sweet Tooth is Tim Anderson’s uproarious memoir of life after his hormones and blood sugar both went berserk.

Very Repetitive and No Story
Revisado: 07-21-16
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
The story did not make any sense, even from the point of view of the main character. Over and over again he ignored his disease of diabetes. The sarcasm was annoying. Very disappointing. The main character was so self-absorbed. Someone who likes this may enjoy it.
Would you ever listen to anything by Tim Anderson again?
No
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The narrator was okay.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment
Any additional comments?
I thought that the story might get to a point but it never did. Just over and over again the cycle of diabetic fallout and then love life daydreams.

Reader may it difficult to like
Revisado: 05-12-16
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Not really.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Age Of Innocence?
In the next to last chapter when Archer finally has the light bulb go off and realize the rest of the family thinks he is in a physical affair when in fact it is everything but physical. Silly man!
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator went too fast and did not have different character voices. Also, I had to keep changing the volume. I reduced the speed to 3/4 and could follow along. However, I did miss much of the details due to the volume issue and lack of identifying the character.
Did The Age Of Innocence inspire you to do anything?
No
