Historia
When Kate Summerlin was eleven years old, she climbed out her bedroom window on a spring night, looking for a taste of freedom in the small college town where she was living with her parents. But what she found as she wandered in the woods near her house was something else: the body of a beautiful young woman, the first of Merkury's victims. And before she could come to grips with what she was seeing, she heard a voice behind her—the killer's voice—saying: "Don't turn around."

Wrong narrator; bored to death
Revisado: 11-30-24
I enjoyed other Harry Dolan books so I didn’t hesitate to use a credit for this. I’ve tried listening twice, but it’s painfully bad. The reader is completely wrong for this book. Every character sounds the same. He makes them all unlikable. And why a male? Bad editing adds to the problem. There are no pauses to indicate character or scene changes. I give up. Waste of a credit.

Historia
The violent slaughter of the Primrose family while they slept shocked the nation. Their young live-in chef, Bill Kareama, was swiftly charged with murder and brought to justice. But the brutal crime scarred the idyllic town of Cambridge forever. Seventeen years later, true-crime podcaster Sloane Abbott tracks down prison psychologist TK Phillips. Once a fierce campaigner for an appeal, TK now lives a quiet life with Bill's case firmly in his past. As Sloane lures a reluctant TK back into the fight, evidence emerges that casts new light on the Primroses—and who might have wanted them dead.

Male narration ruins this book.
Revisado: 11-27-24
The narration for male characters was terribly uneven. I don’t know who read which male character. The main man was fine. The rest of the male characters were not. And the man that narrated the French au pair should never, ever, ever attempt a French accent again, much less a female voice. It was so bad I had to quit the book. Seriously. How does this even happen?
The female narrator was great. The story was enjoyable until the French au pair narration fiasco.

Historia
When Cleo, a student at NYU, arrives late for dinner at her childhood home in Brooklyn, she finds food burning in the oven and no sign of her mother, Kat. Then Cleo discovers her mom’s bloody shoe under the sofa. Something terrible has happened. But what? The polar opposite of Cleo, whose “out of control” emotions and “unsafe” behavior have created a seemingly unbridgeable rift between mother and daughter, Kat is the essence of Park Slope perfection: a happily married, successful corporate lawyer. Or so Cleo thinks.

Uneven narration - skip this one
Revisado: 09-10-24
Cassandra Campbell is always good and performs Katrina well. The problem is with the narrator performing Cleo. She is terrible. Her narration nearly ruins the listen. Same last name… related? The book wasn’t as enjoyable as it should have been and I wish I hadn’t used a credit on it.

Historia
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

After several YA titles, Amy Tintera wrote this one for adults. It’s fantastic! Keep them coming! Both narrators were at their best and the production was perfect. Really enjoyed this.

Historia
Iris and Gabriel have just arrived home from a make-or-break holiday. But a shock awaits them. One of their closest friends, Laure, is in their house. The atmosphere quickly becomes tense as she oversteps again and again: sleeping in their bed, wearing Iris' clothes, even rearranging the furniture. Laure has walked out on her husband—and their good friend—Pierre, over his confession of an affair and a secret child. Iris and Gabriel want to be supportive of their friends, but as Laure's mood becomes increasingly unpredictable, her presence takes its toll.

Narrator can’t save this one.
Revisado: 02-28-24
I have enjoyed other B. A. Paris books, but The Guest is just terrible. The story drags on, the characters are unlikeable, and the whole thing is just plain bad. The epilogue tries to be “a big reveal,” as if the story is just so clever. It’s not. It’s dull and predictable. A total waste of a credit and time.

Historia
When Martha Einkorn fled her father’s isolated compound in Oregon, she never expected to find herself working for a powerful social media mogul hell-bent on controlling everything. Now, she’s surrounded by mega-rich companies designing private weather, predictive analytics, and covert weaponry, while spouting technological prophecy. Martha may have left the cult, but if the apocalyptic warnings in her father’s fox and rabbit sermon—once a parable to her—are starting to come true, how much future is actually left?

Awful narration.
Revisado: 12-01-23
I might enjoy this book if most of the narration wasn’t flat and lifeless. I can’t follow the story because the incessant droning makes me sleepy or I forget to listen. I quit halfway through. What a shame.

Historia
A tenacious Maori detective, Hana Westerman juggles single motherhood, endemic prejudice, and the pressures of her career in Auckland CIB. Led to a crime scene by a mysterious video, she discovers a man ritualistically hanging in a secret room and a puzzling inward-curving inscription. Delving into the investigation after a second, apparently unrelated, death, she uncovers a chilling connection to an historic crime: 160 years before, during the brutal and bloody British colonization of New Zealand, a troop of colonial soldiers unjustly executed a Maori Chief.

I loved this book. A compelling story about a criminal, a family, love, and injustice. Miriama McDowell’s narration is absolutely perfect. I want more from this author and this narrator.

Historia
Nora Harmon has a lot to be thankful for: two great kids, a stable marriage, and now, a dream career. Software consultant Jane Bell wants Nora on her team. She’s offering a fantastic salary, flexible hours, and a chance to travel the world. It sounds too good to be true, but Jane won’t take no for an answer. Jane acts more like a friend than a boss, and Nora’s personal and professional boundaries begin to blur. Jane is smitten with Nora’s perfect family—particularly her daughter—and far too attentive to Nora’s husband. Nora can’t help but feel insecure and unsettled.

What happened?!
Revisado: 12-02-22
What happened? Absolutely nothing. What a snooze! I have read every book by T.R. Ragan and enjoyed them all until now.
It’s hard to believe this book was written by Ragan. Her protagonists have always been smart, strong women, but here Nora is clueless and weak. The plot rambles and at times doesn’t even make sense. Not riveting, no psychological suspense. I suspect this book was resurrected from an abandoned early effort or slammed out to meet a deadline. Don’t bother.

In Gerrardsville, Colorado, a woman dies under the wheels of a moving bus. The death is ruled a suicide. But Jack Reacher saw what really happened: A man in a gray hoodie and jeans, moving stealthily, pushed the victim to her demise—before swiftly grabbing the dead woman’s purse and strolling away.

3 strikes and you're out!
Revisado: 11-01-22
Three tries, 3 fails. I'm done. Andrew Child simply doesn't understand the nature of Jack Reacher. Andrew's Reacher is flat, unlikeable, and violent in a way the real Reacher is not. Continuing the series is a shameless money grab. Let Reacher retire with dignity.
Scott Brick is uncharacteristically restrained, in a good way. If only the writing were better.
Lee Child, you should be ashamed of yourself.
