Historia
Betty Zane strays from the usual Western tale, which usually has a man as the hero. Betty is brave and heroic, but never fear - there is a sweetheart to be reunited with in the end. Life along the Ohio River in frontier days is authentically depicted in this saga. The pioneer settlement of Fort Henry is the setting for the action involving traitors, Indian attacks, and a catastrophic fire.

Historia
This is the quintessential hellfire and damnation sermon. It is one of the most important sermons ever preached in America and reportedly caused mass conversions and repentances during the "Great Awakening" back in 1741. The vivid imagery Edwards used reportedly made some of those who heard it tremble and cry out for mercy. It is an important piece of American Literature, even for those those who totally disagree with the author's view of God as vengeful, angry and a bit cruel.

Old fashioned but good
Revisado: 01-05-23
Grammer, bad cadence and accents on certain words sound a little odd, "old-fashioned," as it were, which gives the thing a sense of authenticity. And the narrator has an amazing, deep, almost gutteral voice. The whole effect is to draw you back to another time and place.

Excellent reading of this timeless classic. Chatty has an amazing deep voice. Perfect for this tale.
I didn't notice any of the problems another reviewer mentioned about the recording. Maybe he just got a bad download?

This books was written many years ago, so the science it talks about is often out of date. That being said, it has some fascinating insites. I used what I learned on a number of people and was usually spot on!

Philip K. Dick was an award-winning giant of American science fiction, right up there with Ray Bradbury and Isaac Asimov. He became the first science fiction writer ever to be included in The Library of America series. Although he died fairly young at 53, he created many incredible sci-fi stories - 44 published novels and over 120 short stories! These 14 selections represent some of his most imaginative work. Included in this collection are: "Adjustment Team", "The Golden Man", "A World of Talent", "The Last of the Masters", "The Crystal Crypt", and more.

Philip K Dick is one of my favorite authors and I was delighted that this collection had some stories I have never read. Narrators had different styles but I like variety and they were all easy to listen to. Five stars.

Historia
Orrie Hitt was a prolific writer of “gritty” romances in the 1950s and '60s. He wrote over 150 novels and, unlike many hack writers of the time, he was very good at what he did, and still has a large following today. The website Criminal Element called him “The Shakespeare of Shabby Street". Here’s a bit more of what they had to say about him:

Good story and narrator but...not for everone.
Revisado: 02-17-22
When listening to this, you have to take into account that this was a very different time, with different attitudes toward many things. That being said, it was a good story and "drew me in." As far as the narrator, I liked him but I know a lot of people won't.
There seem to be two types of narrators. Those who treat the book like a stage play and become almost as important at the author by "acting out" the book with many different voices and emotions. That's fine, as long as the narrator is very good at doing this, and many are not, so the "strained" voices just become annoying.
The second type is one who simply reads the book out loud..intelligently but without trying to "perform" the book. I actually prefer this type because it allows me to imagine what the characters sound like, without the narrator doing it for me. Jeffrey Brown is definiitely the second type. So for those who like the "performance narrator" will not like him. What I would suggest is....listen to the sample first. What you hear is what you will get.

Another good escape from Pandemic book.
Revisado: 02-01-22
This is the second novel I have listened to by Matt Harding and, in many ways , it's like the first. ( Young Widow ) So some of this is just a repeat of my review of that book.
This is an old style romance novel with a hard drinking, womanizing man, falling for a hot woman, who happens to be rich.
The male is rather dense and I found myself, a few times, yelling while driving and listening,, "Don 't do that you idiot!
Really pulled me in. This is not great literature by any means, but for a few hours it will make you forget about this crazy world we are in now. Back then, there was no Internet, no cell phones and, of course, no Covid. The good old days when life was simpler but people, through stupidity, ( like today ) managed to get themselves in a lot of trouble. Good escapist novel. I hope Audible releases even more of these because we certainly need "release" from the news of today.

Pretty good...but.
Revisado: 01-05-22
This is a pretty good story but, if you are at all bothered by explict descriptions of sex, then stay away.
It is so over the top, when it comes to sex, that it becomes comical at times. Male reader only does the introl Beatrice Hartley, who is British, does the bulk of it. I like her as a reader but those who want an audio book "acted out," will not. She reads it intelligently but does not try to turn it into a stage play.
