A big letdown from this prologue of a series.
Revisado: 04-01-13
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Actually, the ending was pretty good...It ended! But seriously, it did tie things together for The Sword of Truth series. So had to listen all the way thru.
What didn’t you like about Kellie Fitzgerald’s performance?
At times very hard to hear, even after blasting the volume way up. Also a big time disappointment, the numerous times the recording backtracked and said the same sentences, with different inflections. Almost like the person editing the book reading together forgot to remove the poorer sounding phrases. Hugely disappointed.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I am a huge Terry Goodkind reader and was very much looking forward to this installment. Did he really write this, or is someone using his name?
Any additional comments?
Can only find this book as audio or e-reader format. Not being published so can't actually add it to my library. Find myself asking, is it really that big of a loss?

Historia
The outbreak tore the US in two. The East remains a safe haven. The West has become a ravaged wilderness, known by survivors as the Evacuated States. It is here that Henry Marco makes his living. Hired by grieving relatives, he tracks down the dead and delivers peace. Now Homeland Security wants Marco for a mission unlike any other: He must return to California, where the apocalypse began. Where does The Return Man rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Definitely one of my favorites that I will listen to again and again. Looking forward to more from this author.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Each chapter got better and better. The seamlessly of current story and backstory was definitely a plus.
Who was the most memorable character of The Return Man and why?
Have to say that my fav was Wu. His evolution throughout the book is one that I was amazed by. Definitely can get into his psychology.

Historia
There's a nasty flu going round. An epidemic, they call it. The posters say to cover your mouth when you sneeze, and throw away the tissue. But such simple measures won't stop this flu. Because when you catch this flu, armed police come and lock you in your house to die alone. When you catch this flu, it kills you in days. And two hours after it's killed you, your eyelids snap open again.... Flu is a pacey, terrifying, frighteningly real zombie horror story.

Okay, but disappointed

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I enjoyed the storyline, but the characters were left without any real definition. Hard to follow at times. But listened to the end.
What does Gerry O'Brien bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Historia
One morning the residents of Walden, Virginia, woke up to find the rest of the world gone. Just...gone.
Surrounding their town was a wall of inky darkness, plummeting Walden into permanent night. Nothing could get in - not light, not people, not even electricity, radio, TV, Internet, food, or water. And nothing could get out. No one who dared to penetrate the mysterious barrier has ever been seen again. Only their screams were heard. But for some, the darkness is not the worst of their fears. Driven mad by thirst, hunger, and perpetual night, the residents of Walden are ready to explode.

What did you love best about Darkness on the Edge of Town?
This was a very well thought out story. Kept me guessing about what might be happening next. Cliff hanger ending as well.
