Historia
Even as a girl Morgan has always been wild, like the seas which batter the cliffs beneath her home, Tintagel Castle. But she has always been safe, too. Then one day her father is called away to a war from which he does not return. In his place comes the High King, Uther Pendragon, with the sorcerer Merlin lurking in his wake. Uther claims Morgan’s mother, the Lady Igraine as his queen.

Excellent king Arthur twist
Revisado: 09-07-24
Having the story from Morgan's point of view is a nice twist to the King Arthur legend. The story was very well written, very captivating and I had a hard time putting it down. I'm very much looking forward to the next book which I will start as soon as I finish this review!

Historia
Mage Errant: Publisher's Pack contains books one and two of the Mage Errant series: Into the Labyrinth and Jewel of the Endless Erg. Hugh of Emblin is, so far as he's concerned, the worst student that the Academy at Skyhold has ever seen. He can barely cast any spells at all, and those he does cast tend to fail explosively.

not enough voice varients
Revisado: 05-02-24
All the women sound the same. The story could use more distinct voices for each character. Was sometimes hard to tell who was talking.

Poor narrator and no subtly to story
Revisado: 08-27-23
The narrator doesn't do any different voices for the characters which makes it difficult to determine who is talking sometimes. The dialog is very unsophisticated. "Look we are being attacked by red orcs." "We must defend the city." "Yes you are correct" is the type of conversations. It spells everything out directly. Great story, just hard to get past the narrator and writing style.

Unpolished and stretches credulity
Revisado: 08-08-21
I tried really hard to get through the 3 books, but just couldn't. The story itself is an interesting one and has potential, but it is unpolished.
Things happen too abruptly. For example, in the first book (which I made it all the way through) - spoiler alert....The dragon city has never been taken before in the history of dragons, but word reaches the king that the demons will be arriving the next day so he orders the city evacuated. The next morning the demons arrive and it seems like within minutes they are in the city attacking. It makes no sense. A well defended city should have been able to hold off the attack for several days or at least a few hours.
Second, the characters motivations seem shallow in the sense that there is no depth to them. I can clearly see the attempt was made, but just didn't reach the goal. It is obvious what is going to happen next based on what the characters say and do and it feels like the explanations for their motives is to transition to the next problem. Instead their motives should be understood and their personality known. Then when things happen the character reacts in a way that makes sense rather than having to explain it. For example- spoiler....Cassandra had guards put on her, but managed to easily slip away from them to be off by herself. First of all, they are awful guards. Second why was no alarm sounded when the person they were supposed to be watching, a person I might add who was only trusted by Darnuir, suddenly went missing? Then Darnuir finds her to apologize to her for losing his temper and her having to see it. The motive (won't go into more detail) just doesn't make sense. It felt like an excuse for them to be alone so the attack could happen. I didn't sympathize with or even understand the main character's motive or reasoning.
I was really disappointed because it seemed like a good story. I couldn't get through it. The narrator did a good job, I just couldn't keep listening.

Almost there
Revisado: 02-07-19
This author almost has it. The books get better as you go. The first book is the hardest. You can almost see the story outline that was put together because it is lacking something that pulls you into the characters and makes you feel part of the story. It is a little too "pat." You have a main character that is essentially a rancher suddenly making battle plans and strategy like he was raised to do it. It was a good listen and kept me entertained and I think with a little more practice this author could be really great.
