After losing Biz's soul and pissing Al off by associating with Houdon, Rachel Morgan, the witch born demon, is back in the hot seat with yet another power hungry city official, newly appointed Master Vampire Constance. With the inderlanders being evicted left and right by Constance and her brigade, Rachel must come up with a way for all to live in harmony, or die...again.

Let me start out by saying, if you haven't read any of the books in this series I must ask, WHY NOT?! If you “claim” to be an urban fantasy lover, than get off your phone and start reading! I was on the edge of my seat, screaming, and jumping up and down throughout most of this book in excitement. I was outraged when I would pull up to work in the middle of a action scene, screaming NO as I turned my audiobook off and clocked in. I couldn't wait to get off work and hit play. I would be running to my car, lol. I haven't been this excited about a book in a long time, it was great! Jinx's hilarious comebacks and comments had me laughing, Rachel's almost underwhelming “plans” had me anxious, and that crazy psycho Constance made me angry. I wanted Rachel to best Constance in the most humiliating savage way so bad that I could taste it.

We had a new character introduced to the story, Pike. Pike is Constances right hand vamp, and such an arrogant undead. BUT, as the story went on, Pike almost appeared as if he had turned in Rachel's favor, but then would do some back stabbing stuff. The unpredictable actions of Pike was wearing on my nerves. I didn't know if he was going to be a friend or foe. Pick a side Pike! Ya, I yelled a lot in my car, lol. In the end, I don't think I have ever felt so satisfied of the outcome as I have with Million Dollar Demon. Thank you Kim Harrison for giving me a reason to read!

Gimme Some Sugar paints a comfortable picture of a small town where every one knows every one and family rivalries still exist. After losing her husband, Lucy and her son Sam move back to Lucy's home town, Lake Sackett, Georgia. All Lucy wants is a safe place to raise her son and live her dream of owning her own bakery. Now, if the town's folk would just mind their business, lol.

Let me start off by saying I have not read the first two books of this series. When Lucy moves back home, she is immediately comforted by the familiarity of where she grew up. Finding her footing as a single parent has been a challenge for Lucy. This sweet story is all about Lucy finding true love.
The characters depicted in the story are what make this story fun. The town is just the right balance of fun, not too silly but not all serious either. Duffy, Lucy's bff growing up, and his mother Dawn are the bright spot in Lucy's day. Evie and Melody, the evil in-laws, and Lana, Duffy's ex-wife, are the perfect people you love to hate. While Lucy works on getting her bakery open and discovering her true feelings about her failed marriage with Wayne and her true love feelings for Duffy, the evil-doers are hard at work attempting to destroy both Lucy's business and her romance with Duffy. I truly enjoyed getting to know Lucy and was instantly drawn into the world.

I bought the audio book based off the cover and the blurb. They beamed me in like Scotty to the Enterprise! Unfortunately the delivery of Addie's story just bored me. At no point was I captivated, but just had a mild interest in how the book was going to end just for the sake of finishing it. I took a gamble on a new to me author and lost. I will walk away now, licking my wounds and continue in my search of another.
The narrator Julia Whelan gets 4 Stars. Her performance was good, pleasant tone, nice transition from female to male characters. I enjoyed listening to her.

The audio book was amazing thanks to a wonderful narrator, Marguerite Gavin. Rachel Morgan's life is never dull, and I love listening about every minute of it! The story continues but with a few new additions and a plot twist that will curl even the straightest hair. Book 15 is highly anticipated by this reader, enjoy the journey my fellow bibliophile's!

The end of the line for Charley and Reyes...or is it?

Summoned to Thirteenth Grave was released back in January 2019, and I waited til now to listen to it because I didn't want their story to be over, but is it over?

Now I'm not about to give any spoilers because frankly if you're reading this, you've been reading the series, so nothing I say at this point will be a surprise. If by some chance you haven't been reading the series and you are reading this review, stop now and save yourself, and me some grief.

So all of you know ever since Beep was born the story line has had this big build up to Beep fighting the good fight with evil and all the people Charley knows that will be in her army...right? We've all been on the edge of our seats as we read on through countless attempts on evil's part to find Beep and kill her, with Charley and Reyes trying to cleverly find a way to keep her safe. Well, with this supposedly being the last book to the series I must say I was a little disappointed. Yes, we've had some big questions answered, yes, we all love Charley and Reyes, but the build up the author created for this last chapter of the story was so great that in the end what happened fell short for me. It was like being dropped off from a date with a handshake goodnight, after having a wonderful flirtatious night on the town with him. And to make things confusing, a question was asked at the end to imply more to come. What I'm saying is, this is suppose to be the last book of the series and when you build a story up that much, you have to reach down to the depths of your soul and unleash the most unimaginable on the reader for the ending and Mrs. Jones did not. What's so disappointing is that I know she could do it, I've seen her do it in her other stories. It felt like she held back and I don't understand why.

Cora Drummond is an agent for the Whitechapel Paranormal branch of the British police force. Her job is to monitor and gauge any paranormal threats to the Queen and country. When Forneus, the Grand Marquis of Hell, approaches her for help to capture demons that are doing evil bidding without the knowledge of their Lord and Master, Cora then realizes that major trouble is headed her way. Will the women of Whitechapel Society have enough power and skill to stop what evil lurks on the other side of their realm?

The author clearly depicts what life was like for women in the Victorian Era. Cora and her fellow agents of Whitechapel have been bullied by the men of the same division. Their male counterparts have made it very clear that they will neither see or treat them as equals. So during Cora's investigation, she and the other female agents are left to rely on each other. The world building for this series is pretty impressive. All the characters play a vital role within Whitechapel, to which each person has a paranormal skill unique to them. As Cora tries to maneuver through her city to solve this mystery of dead bodies and demon activity, I got a sense of what kind of woman Cora is. I appreciated the fact that Cora was written as a whole person and not some pathetic victim. She does have powers that she does not yet fully have a handle on, nor does she realize her full potential, but I'm sure that will come in time as the series moves on. **Please excuse my spelling, I have not read the book I listened to the audio version** I love the character Flan. She's a sassy, strong willed psychic/empath. I was happy that although Flan appeared to not like Cora much, she was still there when Cora needed someone, even when she didn't know she needed help.

The story and characters were engaging. The dynamic within Whitechapel was interesting enough to raise the hackles on the back of my neck. I want to hear more, especially if the male agents have some major karma kick them in the a&!. I give the book 4 Stars.

Narrator Review

Melanie's interpretation of Cora's character did not fit well. Cora has a good sense of who she is, but Melanie's tone gave a brass, matter of fact life to Cora that I don't agree with. I feel like Melanie did a good job with her British accent, but she didn't give Cora the life her character deserved with her voice. I also listened to Melanie in the sense of as a story teller. Her story telling skills are a bit monotone for my liking. During each scene, Melanie lacked the emotion in her voice. When we get excited or upset our voice goes up and when we are sad or down our voice gets low. We voice our emotions! That is why it's so funny to watch and hear a person talk about how excited they are when their face and voice are displaying the total opposite. You know what I'm talking about, right? Imagine talking to Grumpy Cat...
Anthony I feel did a fine job with Forneus and the demons. Anthony embraced the characters fully and his voice brought forth the correct emotions in me that should have been. Good job Anthony! Overall I am giving the narration 3 Stars. The rating reflects both narrators combined.

Even Tree Nymphs Get The Blues was a cute little story about Ingrid a tree nymph. She moved from NY to Mystic Bayou in the hope of living a peaceful life with her tree, a sort of going back to her roots kinda deal, no pun intended, and also to run her own ice cream business. I truly enjoyed returning to the Mystic Bayou world and the authors comical characters that she has created. The world building was a cross over from the authors Jane Jameson and Half-Moon Hollow series, so the environment was very warm and friendly for me to enter. The people, the surroundings, and the shenanigans in this story were like coming home after a long reprieve.

Ingrid's character was old world, a bit rough around the edges. It took me a minute to connect with her and although I did not dislike her character, there was nothing very special or dramatic about her to increase the wow factor of her tale for me. I enjoyed my stay in Mystic but the main attraction fell short for me.

NARRATOR REVIEW

We have a duo narration for this book, woo hoo! So Amanda Ronconi teams up with Jonathan Davis. Well, if you're a PY fan, then you know how I feel about Amanda, she is FAB-U-LOUS! Amanda's tone, sarcasm, comedic timing and acting skills are a real treat to listen to. Amanda's voice is so ingrained in my brain that I could single her out in a voice off!

Now for Jonathan Davis, he was not to shabby, not one bit. He did a pretty good job along side Amanda, and held his own. Now I'm not saying this cause he's an Audible's Narrator Hall of Famer! I actually just discovered that when looking him up on social media, after I wrote my review, thank you very much. The man has skills and a voice made for radio.

Trappersville, WI is a small town filled with people that have little to do but bowl, drink, and fish, so when Herbert Knudsen, the towns loser suddenly becomes good at bowling, and starts actually looking good, something ain't right. Tune in for when socially awkward meets suave and sophisticated.

For a small town like Trappersville, Herb is a mere speck in a tiny pond. But when luck strikes Herb, he goes from being invisible to the Bay City Bowlers Champion! Herb was accidentally made a vampire. Why Herb? Well, why not! Herb lives a simple life as a fry cook at Robbie's Diner, has a best friend in Dallas who is a ladies man, and is in love with Lois, the waitress who doesn't even know Herb exists. Herb always lived in the shadow of his best friend Dallas, until he began his transformation into a vampire. He lost the belly fat, became stronger, and faster, in turn grew his self confidence ten fold. Herb seems like the underdog that deserves to win the lottery, sort of guy. He has always been nice and gentle unlike his counterpart Dallas, whom always went home with the girl. Dallas was full of himself to say the least. In times, it almost appears that Dallas is purely friends with Herb to make himself feel more sexy or likeable perhaps? Cause frankly Dallas is always making fun of Herb, little jabs to his self confidence, appearance, lack of experience with the ladies. I really despise this guy, so when Herb grows out of his awkwardness, I am rooting for Dallas to fall flat on his behind!

The story was entertaining to say the least. I can't say I've ever read a paranormal book that entails the main character being turned via mosquito, lol. I like the realism the town and characters have vs your typical PNR book. This stories world is not built with layers of the underworld, nor is it seeking a champion, it's everyday life and people with a twist. It's a town and people that we all can relate to. Not to copy what other reviewers have said already, but how can I not? Herb is the best unlikely vampire hero you'll ever meet! Herb has real anxiety, but now with his vampiric abilities he finally has the grace and strength to face his life long fears. I really enjoyed reading Wisconsin Vamp, and I can't wait to continue on with the series!

Narrator Review:

Ray Lesniewski narrates the tale of Herb Knudsen for Scott Burtness. Ray is a new to me narrator, so I have no reference to pull from other than my personal listening experience on this novel. I had read the book before there was an audible version of it, and that may or may not have skewed my opinion a bit. When reading a book, a person tends to create the characters voices in their own mind while living the story. I do have life experience with the Midwest, some southern states and the west coast in my arsenal. With that being said, I am very familiar with the accents for those regions. I'm no expert by any means, but I have had personal experience with people from those areas. Scott portrays Herb as a loser, his friend Dallas as a macho chauvinistic pig and Stanley as just a mess of a nerd. Ray's interpretation of how those characters sound were not quite on par with mine. I did like the tone he chose for Herb and Stanley, however Dallas was all wrong. I had a hard time picking up what Ray was trying with Dallas and in the end did not like it. I also thought that Ray's story telling (in between characters) was less than desirable. When someone is telling a story, that person needs to set the stage for the listener, draw them in with their acting skills and tone. There was little life in Ray's portrayal of Herbs world. I really wanted to feel the story since I thought Ray did a good job with Herb and Stanley, but there just wasn't anything to draw me in.

Ray Lesniewski is not a bad narrator, but just maybe an inexperienced one. I'm hoping with more practice and time that Ray will flourish and become the narrator I know he can be. Ray has great potential, so I'm not giving up on him!

Mercedes Thompson is a loner, only having her cat, her auto repair shop, and former shop owner/friend, Z. Until one day a young boy walks into her shop, looking for short term work. Mac is scared, tired and hungry. Without saying a word, Mercy knows this about him and takes him in. Little did Mercy know that this one act of kindness would turn into the biggest storm of her life!

The story paints a very clear and distinct picture of the world Mercedes, aka Mercy lives in. Mercy is a shifter, better known in this world as a skin walker. The paranormal creatures in this world are vast, including werewolves, vampires and fae. The “lesser” type fae have come out of the closet to the humans, and this has left the other supernaturals on edge. It's natural to think that it is only a matter of time before the humans figure out that there are others than the fae, and how will they handle that?

Mercy keeps to herself, because she is the only one of her kind that she knows of. She is not welcome in the werewolf community, even though their forms are similar. So when a young and scared werewolf appears at her shop looking for work, she has no choice but to contact the local wolf packs alpha, Adam. Life from here takes a quick “oh no” turn, leaving an aftermath of dead werewolves, and Adam's daughter missing, with Mercy right smack in the middle of werewolf business. A place she doesn't want to be in nor does the wolf pack want her there.

As Mercy goes along with helping Adam find his daughter, we the reader find out bits and pieces of Mercy's past. Her life has been twisted with the wolves because of her upbringing, and the whole politics of it all is rather complex. Mercy has connections to some very powerful wolves, which until now, she has never spoken to, let alone asked them for any help. Mercy's character was strong, smart and independent. She has a very likable personality, and a strong sense of what's right and wrong. I like her, but a lot of her personality traits ran closely to other heroines I've read in books recently which turned me off a little. If it wasn't for the unique story line, supporting characters and awesome narrator, I most likely would have dropped the book. But after a recent discovery, Moon Called was published much earlier than those other stories, so I did feel better about Mercy's character.

Adam, Samuel and Mercy love triangle. Ah yes, my favorite part of PNR. Samuel is Mercy's ex from when she was a teenager, and a very old wolf. Adam is the local alpha and her next door neighbor that was instructed to “keep an eye on her”, whom also has some feelings of claim on Mercy. Which one am I rooting for, Team Adam or Team Samuel? Well lets examine what I know. Samuel appeared to love Mercy, but she later found out he just wanted a suitable mate to procreate with and was not so much “in love” with her. That was a kick in the gut. Adam apparently put some wolfy claim on Mercedes before he even met her! They rarely spoke, and frankly she didn't seem to even like him as a person. BUT, as their journey to find Jessie drew out, they became friends, and Adam even put trust in Mercy unwarranted, which he didn't really have to. I will state for now I am Team Adam, but I do reserve the right to change my vote. This book most definitely was not a disappointment, I'm just sad that it took me this long to read/listen to it.

The Narrator

Lorelei King, one of my favorite narrators of all time! Lorelei's tone is very smooth and confident. She delivers her lines with perfection, and her comedic timing is classic! Her transition from female to male voices is great, because most want to lower their register and that just sounds bad, but not Lorelei. This narrator is and will always will be a 5 Fang rating!

Mystic Bayou, LA is a special and unique town, one that the League of Interspecies Cooperation has its eye on. In an effort to uncover their secret for the blissful interspecies relations, the League sends in Jillian, one of their top recommended anthropologists to conduct a study on the residents. Jillian has worked her whole life for this opportunity and is elated about the new assignment, but will her research subjects be as enthusiastic about her as she is them? In an attempt to find Mystic Bayou's secrets, she uncovers more than what she bargained for! Will Jillian rise to the challenge, or will she run scared with her tail between her legs?

Doctor Jillian Ramsey arrives in Mystic Bayou with an open mind and almost a virgin like purity to her. She is smart and inquisitive, but when it comes to the social aspect of things, she is clueless. When she meets Mayor Zed and Sheriff Bael, she pretty much knows right off the bat how well her stay will be. The comedic circumstances, and interactions with others had me laughing right in Chapter One. The detailed descriptions of the smells, textures, and people came in just the right dose, as well as timing. Jillian does the best she can on such short notice, being as she was sent there last minute in place of Doctor Montez, her mentor and the head dude. But as Jillian begins her interviews with various town folk/shifters, she begins to show her true personality, which is quite annoying at times. She is very stubborn and wants to do everything herself, even though she has no idea how dangerous of a position she is in, and once she gets involved with the love interest, she pretty much blows off all the personal stuff he tells her. Now add a murder, then another, oh wait...one more. Instead of being concerned for her welfare, Jillian plugs away like that doesn't change work, and gets angry with love interest when he wants to protect her! Dang woman, you had your good points, now you're coming off like a d*&!@e! My perception of Jillian is not nice but her irritating self made the story what it is, so in my book it's all good. Now Bael, he is the love interest for Jillian. First off, he totally makes up for Jillian's sass, cause OMG! Bael is for real, sensitive, masculine, a lover and a fighter, and no joke sitting on a pile of lucky charms! Bael for sure has a brooding, tall, dark and handsome thing going on, but once Jillian gets in, he is all mushy inside, lol. I really loved Bael, all of him! And the town's people were so funny, and quirky, that they fit the bill for what this towns vibe was going for.

The story and plot was not to off the beaten path for the overall feel of the book. The plot has it's danger, but it wasn't to over the top, and fell right in line with what Jillian had uncovered. Jillian and the towns back story came into play throughout the book, which gave the story a nice depth to it that I was pleasantly surprised by. As far as happy endings, I was conflicted because Jillian pulled such an asshole move on Bael, that really pissed me off, but then had the outcome I wanted, with some reservations because Jillian was still being a tool! I almost feel like Jillian doesn't deserve Bael. Damn you Harper, I hate conflict! Ugh...that's all I'm saying, I'm done.

Narrator Review

Amanda Ronconi is one of my favorite narrators! She is totally awesome, and fabulous! I always enjoy her comedic timing, along with the right touch of snark to her tone, lol. Hands down 5 stars. Jonathan Davis also narrated in Bael's POV parts of the book. I don't believe I have ever listened to anything by him before. I would have to double check that, but doesn't ring a bell. He did well. His take on the story was not as performance driven as Amanda's, more just like reading, but hey it didn't suck so there ya go. I can always appreciate a smooth voice, and excellent audio. Jonathan was cool, and I give him 3 stars.
