My favorite habits book
Revisado: 07-03-19
I've read a fair number of habits books over the past several decades. This one is definitely my favorite.. I've lost count of how many times I've listened to it all the way through. Now I just listen to a chapter here or there when I want a boost.

I've listened to this 3 times
Revisado: 07-03-19
It's a short book but filled with good advice. I listened to it on a walk, in the car, and while decluttering. It's inspiring to listen to while decluttering and helps me declutter faster.
The book helps not only with decluttering but also on maintaining order.
One piece of advice from it even changed a family member's behavior and this has made a big difference in how messy our home becomes on a daily basis.
I really like how nonjudgmental Gretchen is.

I listened to these one story a day. The stories are a little dark. Great old-style fairy tale feel. I am likely to listen to these again at some point.

inside look
Revisado: 07-03-19
I felt a bit voyeuristic listening to this book but it was difficult to put down. An inside look at a therapist's life which mean we also get a look into the lives of some of her patients. I wonder if it was entirely ethical of her to represent their sessions. I don't know how much she altered their stories to protect their privacy.

Even better than the Gaiman narrated version
Revisado: 07-03-19
I love Neil Gaiman's narration of his books. But this all-cast recording is superb. This will be the version I choose if I reread the book. I think the story is good for children and adults. A bit too scary for some children I've known.

I should have chosen a different book
Revisado: 07-03-19
I think this wasn't the right book for me at this time. I found it depressing because I'm not ready to think about decluttering my parent's home. I like Peter Walsh but not this book. And it was a little repetitive. It was more of a 2 star book for me but I think the book deserved a higher rating than that even though it didn't appeal to me.

I was really looking forward to this book. But the narration was not working for me. I wish the author had narrated it because I've heard him speak about the subject and he shows more enthusiasm for the subject and light-heartedness.

Quick intro to Hygge
Revisado: 03-18-19
If you want a simple, quick intro to Hygge before deciding to delve further, this could be the book for you.
In my opinion, it's not just like all the minimalism books and not like Marie Kondo as another reviewer suggested. Nielsen's book puts a lot of importance on creating coziness at home. If you've seen minimalist home photos and found their decorating style a bit cold and uninviting and, well, too minimal, or thought Kondo was too rigid, then you should probably look into hygge. With hygge you can still declutter and have a neat home but in a cozier, more relaxed, and inviting way.
I had previously read a longer book about Hygge by a Danish author, which provided a more complex and culturally Danish perspective on what hygge is and I found that interesting. However, Nielsen's book does share an overview on how you can create hygge at home and does so in a short format and the narrator has an American accent (unlike the Danish book) and that will be more desirable for some readers. There are elements of Nielsen's book that I can use in my home.
The narrator has a good clear pronunciation and American accent but the enthusiastic delivery felt a bit over-much to me.
