Historia
Last year, Rachel Bacharach met the man of her dreams at a Hanukkah party — and then her outgoing best friend Tamara swooped in and “called” Oz Caplan for herself. It’s a typical outcome for the dependable, bookish Rachel, who is never able to extinguish the spark she immediately felt for Oz. But being secretly in love with her best friend’s boyfriend all year hasn’t been easy.

Fun, sweet story
Revisado: 05-12-24
This was a fun, light read. The way both POVs are used shows good insight to the characters, and everyone is very likeable, although Oz doesn't seem quite as amazing as she thinks, but if you're in love you're in love.
Both narrators were good and overall I enjoyed this book.

Historia
Bailey Chen is fresh out of college, with all the usual new-adult demons: no cash, no job offers, and an awkward relationship with Zane, the old friend she kinda-sorta hooked up with during high school. But when Zane introduces Bailey to his monster-fighting bartender friends, her demons become a lot more literal. It turns out evil creatures stalk the city streets after hours, and they can be hunted only with the help of magically mixed cocktails.

Light and entertaining
Revisado: 05-02-24
I enjoyed this book. The story is original and well thought out. The world and characters are interesting, although some could use a little more development, but I'm thinking we'll see more of that in the next books.
The next part includes spoilers...
My biggest issue with the story is how inconsistent and immature she is when it comes to Zane. First she doesn't even see him as an actual guy but only as her highschool friend, but as soon as she realizes he has a girlfriend he really cares about then suddenly she develops a huge crush. And when he becomes a complete jerk she still has weird growing feelings for him even though she only worked with him briefly and has little to no contact with him afterwards. And in the end she just takes his hand and now they're a couple without ever having a discussion about it, and everyone has conveniently forgotten all about his beloved girlfriend, including him.
Anywho, despite this I really did like the book and I will probably give book two a shot as well.

I liked this second book, although it kinda felt like not much actually happened, besides Avery getting weaker and Wyatt trying to figure out how to help her. They eventually just end up stumbling into the prophecy and never actually discover anything or do anything on purpose.
The narrators are still good, but I don't love the way the male narrator does Nicholas's voice. it's like he doesn't know what to do with it.
Overall this one doesn't deserve 5 stars, but I still enjoyed it and will probably get the third book soon.

Three months. I just have to get through three months of resisting Avery's enticing lilac-and-rainwater scent. Then she'll be shipped off to Geneva and I can get to work forgetting her inquisitive eyes, infectious laugh, and tantalizing curves. It almost kills me to keep her at arm's length, but duty demands it. All of that changes, though, when a rare celestial event erupts strange, new power from Avery—a power that's determined to destroy her. Tasked with unlocking its secrets, I have no choice but to keep her close as I struggle to find her new magic's origins.

Once I started listening to this book, I couldn't stop. It has this slightly toxic male thing going on, but it's made in a way that you understand his thoughts and reasoning, and let's face it, men are generally not the best communicators 😄
All the characters are great and the story moves along at a good pace. The narrators are both really good and I honestly can't say anything bad about it except for the fact that it ends on a cliffhanger and forces you to get the next one, but although I usually hate that, I don't mind it in this case. I can't wait to see what happens next!

I’m settling into my new routine, and everything in my second year at Blackbriar seems great - until it is very suddenly not. What’s supposed to be a fun school-wide trip ends up being a huge betrayal by my own flesh and blood. I barely escape with my life. Now I’m out for revenge. The bloody kind. The Order is close, and they’re watching my every move. They want the very magic that courses through my blood. They won’t stop until they have it all: my magic, my power, my meteorite. And they’ll kill anyone that stands in their way.

I really enjoyed the first book in the series and immediately read book two, which was just ok. When I got to this one I was already starting to feel the story slow down, and I had to struggle my way to the end. I don't see much of a character development with any of the characters, and the relationships move incredibly slowly.
I like the characters individually but I don't feel that interconnectedness or supposedly strong feelings between them. The MC feels much more like a 16 year old than a 20 year old, and the whole storyline seems to be stagnant at this point. There are a couple of fight scenes that work ok, as well as some predictable twists, but since nothing really happens in this book, it's really not enough for me to be entertained. I almost gave up a couple of times but I made it through eventually. If you like slow moving stories without too much substance then please feel free to read this and the next books in the series, but for me I have to sign out at this point.

Revisado: 01-24-24
This story is, as many others have mentioned, a Hallmark Christmas movie in an audiobook. it's sweet, cheasy, touching, and just a little awkward.
The characters are well-rounded and complete, although they sometimes feel just a little unbelievable, but again, just like a Hallmark movie.
I love Andi, and as always she did an amazing job narrating. The male narrator, however, felt really out of place. it's not that he's bad, he just maybe wasn't the best choice for this book.
All in all I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to a friend.

I usually don't love when a story is dramatized like this with multiple performers/narrators, but this story was short and sweet, and the performances were perfect! It was moving, sweet, at times a little sad, and I can't say enough good things about it. It's an absolute gem!

Nothing good ever comes from drinking a box of wine alone. So when I decided to entertain my drunken self by setting up some hand-me-down podcasting equipment and reading the steamy parts from romance novels, I never thought anyone would actually listen. The fact that I admitted my huge crush on my sexy next door neighbor made the whole thing even more mortifying. But sometimes life surprises you, and that’s how my podcast, Heidi’s Discount Erotica, was born. Now I, Heidi Larsen, a sweet former kindergarten teacher in Waconia, Minnesota, lead a scandalous double life.

Revisado: 11-20-23
This book was recommended to me by a friend and in the beginning I wasn't really sure if it was my kind of book, just because of all the religious stuff being mentioned (as someone who is generally not a fan of Christianity), but I pressed on and waited to see what would happen, and it was AMAZING!!!
It had me laughing out loud so many times and even though the whole small town culture was a definite vibe, it was explained in a way that moved the story along and didn't get stuck or too repetitive.
I love the character development and the back and forth, the overly annoying but somehow also endearing side characters, and the ending was so good.
I loved the narration, although it was sometimes really hard to distinguish between spoken and internal monologue.
All in all I really loved this book and will recommend it to everyone I know 😄

Really good story
Revisado: 10-30-23
I sort of expected this to be just another run of the mill supernatural academy story, but luckily I was wrong. Yes, it is very similar to other books in many ways but it also has some new aspects and the characters are great. I found myself smiling and even laughing through most of the book, and I had a hard time turning it off, which to me signifies it's a good book.
Is it a completely new story/idea? No, but it's well-written with the exception of the author being in love with the word 'as' (I do the same thing so I know it's hard to edit out). It's fun and you quickly feel involved in the story.
The narrator is also doing an amazing job and with just a couple of minor issues I had no notes on her at all.
All in all I really enjoyed it.

Lucy Hutton has always been certain that the nice girl can get the corner office. She's charming and accommodating and prides herself on being loved by everyone at Bexley & Gamin. Everyone except for coldly efficient, impeccably attired, physically intimidating Joshua Templeman. And the feeling is mutual. Trapped in a shared office together 40 (ok, 50 or 60) hours a week, they've become entrenched in an addictive, ridiculous never-ending game of one-upmanship.

Amazing Story!
Revisado: 10-25-23
I loved this book from the very first page. The characters are well-rounded and feel like real people with faults and fears of their own. The slow building romance is so good, and once you reach the ending and understand their thoughts and history, you are not disappointed.
The narration was ok. She's doing a decent job but it's really hard to tell when the words are spoken out loud and when it's internal dialogue and when they're just observation. sometimes she also seems to get the voices a little mixed up which can be confusing. But overall I didn't hate her, she did okay.
I will definitely be listening to/reading this book again soon!
