Joanna Parson is an excellent narrator!
Revisado: 12-04-23
The book is a series of personal and family crises…… it is hard to imagine there is one she missed. The story is carried along by Joanna Parson’s excellent narration. She makes each character so real that the listener becomes invested in each crisis and keeps listening to find out what happens.

One of the best! Venice/Cole Porter......Families unmasked!
Revisado: 04-03-21
Disturbing issues......insane asylums....incest.....the black shirts of Fascism. Venice instead of Berlin’s Cabaret!
Holmes & Mary are asked to find the aunt of one of Mary’s Oxford friend’s, Veronica. The search takes them into the insane asylums of Britain......a trail to Venice. The wild parties of “the bright young things”. Cole Porter and his wife Linda. Mary & Holmes together — so clever & interesting once again as a team. I finally gave in & sat on the sofa for ?? hours listening to the tale unfold!

My favorite so far!
Revisado: 03-27-21
I have seen other reviewers not liking this book. Saying the series was declining. I am definitely in the other camp. The daughter, the mother & Damien. Holmes’ granddaughter and son. A dangerous
religion...... but really a cult with all the horrors that define a cult. The Holmes
family coming together ...... led by
Mycroft. They said at the end that this was going to be continued. I am going now to find it!

San Francisco..... Mary returns home!
Revisado: 03-26-21
As always it is an excellent story. It is an American story. Mary becomes very American which befuddles Holmes.
The mystery of Mary’s parents/brother’s death is solved. Her perceived guilt assuaged. Hopefully we don’t have to revisit USA.Mary/Holmes/The Stories are much more interesting in an international setting.

Historia
In the early days of 1924, Mary Russell and her husband, the inimitable Sherlock Holmes, are given an urgent task by his brother, Mycroft: find a British spy gone missing along India's northwest frontier, where men are dying and trouble is brewing. The spy's name? It is one Holmes knows from his sojourn in India long ago, and one Russell knows from a book. It is Kimball O'Hara, known to the world by the name Rudyard Kipling called him - Kim....

Historia
In the eerie wasteland of Dartmoor, Sherlock Holmes summons his devoted wife and partner, Mary Russell, from her studies at Oxford to aid the investigation of a death and some disturbing phenomena of a decidedly supernatural origin. Through the mists of the moor there have been sightings of a spectral coach made of bones carrying a woman long-ago accused of murdering her husband - and of a hound with a single glowing eye.

This story has Mycroft— probably my
favorite character in each rendition of
the Sherlock Holmes Stories. His Dionysus Club, his importance and influence — but no one knows why— in the running of Great Britain & the commonwealth. I could go on & on. As usual the book is exceptional.

This is the third book of this series that I have read. A friend who is also addicted suggesting I read 0’Jerusalem which is her favorite. So far..... this is my favorite. I had to finish it & have spent most of the day glued to the story. I am still amazed that Ms King has been able to completely redefine Sherlock Holmes.....and it works. On the next one! Enjoy.....

Quite remarkable! Holmes is excellent in his new role.I highly recommend
Revisado: 03-01-21
I recommend highly. Quite remarkable. There is the History of the British in
The Middle East : Deserts Deception intrigue
.......and oh so British. In the middle of the desert...... the top British commander of all operations stopped everything for afternoon tea. Sandwiches with no crusts, pastries etc. .... and the commander apologized for
Canned milk instead of fresh...... he didn’t like goats milk. Then the war resumed! Sherlock Holmes is excellent in his new role. I wasn’t sure I could embrace it. But he and Mary Russell make an odd ..... but good team.

Historia
In 1915, Sherlock Holmes is retired and quietly engaged in the study of honeybees in Sussex when a young woman literally stumbles onto him on the Sussex Downs. Fifteen years old, gawky, egotistical, and recently orphaned, the young Mary Russell displays an intellect to impress even Sherlock Holmes. Under his reluctant tutelage, this very modern, twentieth-century woman proves a deft protégée and a fitting partner for the Victorian detective.

A friend suggested it. During the boredom of the pandemic.....why not. I couldn’t figure out how they were going to do it! Holmes’ story is so well known. Well they did! I got so caught up in the story that I listened to in one day. Later today I am going to start O’Jerusalem which I am told is even better.
