If your favorite genre of book is a well written tragic saga with word pictures so well written that you can not only visualize the author’s picture but also feel it then this book is for you. I am not that person. By the middle of the saga I was so tired of tragedy and of hearing the pain and stupidity of some of the characters laid out in detail that I couldn’t bear any more. That is not a reflection of the lyrical beauty of the telling of the stories but of my tolerance to hearing tragedy after tragedy. I know I should probably stick it out to hear the beautiful threads all come together into some sensible conclusion but I am not. I can’t imagine how much pain and heartbreak lies ahead. I knew when I reached a particularly horrific event and yelled “holy hell” out loud I was done. This is very well written, the narration soothing but just too much real life for me. I live with enough emotional trauma in life to prefer more of an escape in my literature. Just know that if you are considering this book and drowning, traumatic childbirth, suicide, fire, human disfigurement, or abuse are triggers for you, these and more are in this tale of woe.

A touching story and interesting insight into the world of cinema. Tom Hanks is an easy to listen to narrator. Highly recommend!

An engaging story with relatable characters. Like any cozy mystery, clues were dropped like breadcrumbs to lead the reader but not over complicated so they were understandable. Plenty of red herrings thrown in to leave you guessing about multiple scenarios. Fun read

Narrow minded portrayal of people, organizations and social issues. I grew so weary of the rhetoric I returned the book. The story would have been engaging without the stereotyping.

I enjoy the Nils Shapiro series. With each book I have watched the characters develop and grow. It took me a chapter or so to adjust to the new narrator, but then found it to be easy listening.

A charming story of overcoming hardship. I appreciate the author weaving the faith of the characters into moments without devolving into monologues of sermon. A cozy read.

I’m a fan of both historical fiction and mystery novels. I liked the characters and appreciate that it wasn’t a Sherlock Holmes imitation. The narration was interesting and natural. I would have rated it higher, but the plot and story was often given a backseat to Zionist apologetics. If you want a detailed understanding of Jewish, Christian, and Messianic Christian faiths you might enjoy this book. I was looking for a mystery novel so I lost interest.

As always Louise Penny has woven a well written mystery with a mix of psychological twists and turns and charm. I missed the usual amount of humor from the Three Pines residents which would have balanced the intensity of the evil in the story. Still a good book with fabulous narration and I enjoyed learning about the World of Curiosities.

I can best describe the style of this book as P.G. Wodehouse meets James Bond. Not a book for hard core realists, but if whimsy and humor are your style you might enjoy this book.
