Historia
At the pivotal battles of Twin Tunnels and Chipyong-ni in February 1951, UN forces met and contained large-scale attacks by Chinese forces. Colonel Paul Freeman and the larger-than-life Colonel Ralph Monclar led the American 23rd Infantry Regiment and the French Bataillon de Corée, respectively, in the fierce and dangerous battles that followed the precipitous UN retreat down the Korean Peninsula.

Excellent detailed history of of the 23rd RCT
Revisado: 09-13-21
Thorough history of real men in real combat. the writing and the reading put me right in the fox holes and command centers in the middle of real combat. The fog of war and the individuality of each soldier, Officer and personal actions of each. Told the story and didn't judge. being retired military veteran myself [although not a combat veteran] I could well understand the persona positive and otherwise of each.
Well written and well narrated.

Wonderful Meditation/Reflection
Revisado: 11-01-20
This is a wonderful spiritual treasure and one to be listened to, reflected upon and savored. Reminds me of St Francis de Sales, Introduction to the Devout Life. Love how he threads in Greek and Roman philosophers.
The narrator did a wonderful job in his reading. Had the feeling it was St Louis sitting with me maybe in a small group.
Highly recommend for any person of faith. Even if not, the logic and passion of the saint may challenge one to come to a deeper spiritual understanding.

A Refreshing Look At The Subject
Revisado: 10-27-20
From an engaging opening the book did a nice job of developing the concept of systems thinking. Brought concepts to even apply to close interpersonal relationships. Professionally, I was in systems analysis, now retired, and i enjoyed a.refreshing look at the subject. The narrator did a nice job as well.

An Action-Packed Story.
Revisado: 07-25-20
I was not familiar with this genre, but shortly after starting I was hooked. As a retired naval officer myself, the story development, characters, weapons, tactics, etc. all seemed quite accurate. I look forward to listening to more in the series. I thought the narrator did a nice job of all the diverse character accents across the Axis and Allied forces.

Drawing on the wisdom gleaned from thriving mega-churches and innovative business leaders while anchoring their vision in the Eucharistic center of Catholic faith, Fr. Michael White and lay associate Tom Corcoran present the compelling and inspiring story to how they brought their parish back to life. Rebuilt is a story of stopping everything and changing focus. When their parish reached a breaking point, Fr. Michael White and lay associate Tom Corcoran asked themselves how they could make the Church matter to Catholics.

Don't Do What's Suggested Unless You Will OWN IT.
Revisado: 02-06-18
My interpretation of this book is that this pastor and youth minister took their new positions unwilling to just continue to do what was always done which wasn't working. They were willing to say basically, "I don't know. I'm open to new ideas." A Catholic priest attended an evangelical pastors' conference on church growth. As things rolled forward they found that the only changes that worked were the ones that they OWNED and weren't just performing.
This book applies to all Christian churches/communities, not just the Catholic Church in which it is lived. Many might say, "I'm not Catholic, I'm [fill in the blank]." If you are in a leadership [or are willing to be] in any faith community, there is a treasure trove of ideas and perspective worth considering.
Even mentioned was the value of integrating Dave Ramsey's [an evangelical Christian] Financial Peace University [FPU] into the congregation to help people gain financial stability which ultimately led improved quality of life and to increased giving. I'm Catholic and facilitate FPU workshops at my church. That reference struck a chord with me.
Bottom line, don't be so short-sighted, dare I say judgemental, as they are 'too liberal', 'too conservative' or even 'I'm in a Christian church not Catholic.' Don't fall into the error of thinking 'I believe in God and he thinks just like me!' Let those attitudes go [I had to too] and look for the opportunities to have more positive impact on your community and world in 'sharing the gospel.'

Excellent Overview of a Complicated Topic
Revisado: 08-20-17
Ok, I won't candy coat it, this is not for the basic retail investor, It's for accredited investors. Get over it. But for those who have transitioned into that demographic and particularly for those with unrealized capital gains in real estate, do yourself a favor and at least be introduced to the vehicle. Personally had never heard of them until a savvy real estate broker put me in touch with someone who initially educated me on the topic. I am so glad he did. As I researched further, I found this book which then really helped me get a much better understanding of the market, risks, rewards and the processes involved. No they aren't the old real estate limited partnerships that got a lot of people's financial clocked cleaned thirty years ago and no, you can't get them from a discount broker nor in a For Sale By Owner transaction.
Leslie is obviously a professional in this domain and I will probably be connecting with her further. Greg Zarcone does an excellent job conveying the material which at times as you might guess gets a bit thick, in a very connecting style.
If you own rental real estate with unrealized capital gains, do yourself a favor and give this one a listen.

Nexus of Two Different Worlds
Revisado: 01-25-17
I was intrigued by the title and thumbnail. I am in recovery and have completed a half dozen marathons. As an orthopedic surgeon friend told me, I am now an endorphin junkie. Perhaps so. If so, David has left me in the dust. As I looked through some of the reviews before mine, if one reads it only from the perspective of one community, recovery or running/ultra running, one will most probably feel far too much of the story is allocated to the other perspective. But realizing that the alcoholic/addict lifestyle prior to entering recovery was almost as much of a marathon as the recovery, training and ultra running became, one must realize that both facets of the journey were long and grueling. I did find myself thinking more than a few times, however, that there can be no true 'ultra' recovery until one dies clean, sober and at peace. To me, that is ultra recovery. Until then, I'm still "trudging the road of happy destiny."

Inspiring Story of Survival
Revisado: 01-10-17
The story of a young man in his mid teens in Poland at the outbreak of WWII. At the risk of a spoiler alert, he spent most of the war a prisoner in/near Auschwitz. The litany of people he encountered most of whom did not survive the war and even the many of captors who were later tried and executed for their crimes was heartrending. I found myself trying to decide how I might have responded at that age and expecting that I would most likely not have survived. Sure, perhaps a bit dry in parts, but gosh dangit, that is what the reality was!
The narrator did an excellent job carrying the what I will call stoic pathos of the author through his journey and quest to survive. Obviously he had a good handle on the Polish and German vocabulary integral to such a story.
Powerful but certainly not light reading/listening.

This book is going to teach you how to overcome the obstacles that stand between you and succeeding in convincing others to your way of thinking. It will take a look at what arguing actually is in order to gain a better understanding of how to do it well and efficiently, tackle the prickly issue of just how ethical it is to persuade someone, and look at the different ways in which we fail in our arguments, both in winning and occasionally in reaching a decent resolution without devolving into fighting.

A Good Refresher For Anyone
Revisado: 10-07-16
Up front, the author clarifies the meaning of 'argument' that it is not the perhaps implied adversarial, almost fighting confrontation the current connotation seems to be. Yet in his basic rules of argument he leaves off the first and most important [Socratic] rule...Agree on meaning of terms. "Depends on what your definition of is is" Otherwise you may be arguing over different things with your counter party.
Also leaves off one of the best ways to improve your presentation, persuasion and communications skills, check out and join a Toastmasters Club.
Yet, the book is however a nice overview of logic, persuasion and verbal/body skills necessary. I must confess that I was listening to this book in the thick of the US Presidential debate/election season and found myself filtering the authors material based on what I see in that process.
The narrator did an excellent job of professionally, appropriately delivering the material. He was what I could call professionally engaging in his style and would be delighted to listen to additional titles he brings to audio.
I was provided a complimentary review copy of this book in return for a candid review.

Not Just For Fiction
Revisado: 09-22-16
This is an excellent book for any writer...fiction or non-fiction. Really any storyteller. Same logic applies to writing speeches for that matter. Loaded with copious examples of shallow and then re-written with 'deep point of view.' Her basic mantra...show us don't tell us.
Narrator did an excellent job in helping to accentuate the difference in the examples. Realistically though, a narrator, the verbal story teller, can help to mitigate some of the shallow point of view in the reading and this narrator demonstrated that well.
