Good plot, exceptional narration
Revisado: 04-17-25
Jennifer is a wonderful writer, creating vivid mental pictures and keeping the suspense high. Karissa was an excellent narrator, able to voice men, women and any accent needed. A great read.

Not realistic
Revisado: 08-16-24
Performance was very good. I enjoy books with a happy ending but this was so unrealistic. Every person Kara came across wanted to help her to the point of asking her to live with them. I also agree with the other reviewers who said it was brought to a conclusion way too quickly with details left out.

Julia performs it and I listen
Revisado: 06-06-24
I listen to anything Julia narrates - she is superb. Her ability to change her voice and accent is amazing. You never wonder who is speaking. The story was good although somewhat predictable. I did get frustrated with the main character and her ability to make a problem out of everything- even when incredible “gifts on a silver platter” are presented to her by a wonderful man with a tremendous sense of humor, patience and kindness. I would warn you that there is a fair amount of swearing in the book which was a surprise and distraction to me.

Love Tom as an actor
Revisado: 05-01-24
Tom does a good job as a narrator. The stories just weren’t very good. I think if an unknown would have submitted the manuscript, it would not have been published. I actually bought the book bc I thought he might be a good writer. Not so. Plus there was a fair amount t of unnecessary foul language which I don’t like. I still love you Tom - just not as a writer.

Wow - what a woman! Jeannie learned many life lessons from her life and death diagnosis and she passes each one on to us. Worth the read for sure. She is just as funny as her comedian husband Jim Gaffigan. I would highly recommend this book.

Historia
In Made in America, Bryson de-mythologizes his native land, explaining how a dusty hamlet with neither woods nor holly became Hollywood, how the Wild West wasn't won, why Americans say 'lootenant' and 'Toosday', how Americans were eating junk food long before the word itself was cooked up, as well as exposing the true origins of the G-string, the original $64,000 question, and Dr Kellogg of cornflakes fame.

We love Bill but not this one
Revisado: 05-17-23
I agree with many of the reviewers who mention the narration as very grating and irritating. Bill is the best narrator of his own books. While we normally enjoy Bill’s research, writing and delivery very much, this book was hours and hours of disappointment. Never ending lists, spelling of words (sometimes 3 or 4 spellings of the same word - we get it, there are several ways to spell a word!) and loads of just plain boring information. So, it’s on to a new Bill Bryson book, read by himself, and hopefully, no more pages of lists just to say you’ve completed another book.

Love Nora’s humor
Revisado: 05-10-22
This book made me laugh out loud many times. It also made me think about some deep subjects she brought up towards the end off the book. Some reviewers have. complained she speaks too slowly. Just set the speed at 1.1 and Nora sounds great. Enjoy the book, think deep thoughts and laugh.

Historia
In 1903 there were only 150 miles of paved roads in the entire nation and most people had never seen a "horseless buggy" - but that did not stop Horatio Nelson Jackson, a 31-year-old Vermont doctor, who impulsively bet $50 that he could drive his 20-horsepower automobile from San Francisco to New York City. Here - in Jackson's own words - is a glorious account of that months-long, problem-beset, thrilling-to-the-rattled-bones trip with his mechanic, Sewall Crocker, and a bulldog named Bud.

Great writing and narration. America needs more pioneer spirit and determination like Horatio’s. What a positive, determined and optimistic person. Those traits can take one a long ways - like across a continent. Very enjoyable to listen to and learn from.

Info good but a little too detailed
Revisado: 03-22-22
Author shared interesting info but went into too much detail. Sometimes at the end of an extremely long story that began in 1435, I would think, and HOW did that tie in to the origins of Christmas? Didn’t always see the connection she was making. As others have said in previous reviews, someone else should have narrated the book. I too sped up the rate at which it was being read just to finish. Her sing song voice, sound effects and cartoon voices grated on me. I’m sure her delivery would work great on a kindergarten class. I’m glad the book was free with my membership

Revisado: 06-03-21
I loved this movie and the book is great. Cary tells wonderful inside stories about its production. I can’t imagine just reading this book as there are so many cast members that tell their thoughts and experiences surrounding this movie in their own voices. That added so much. If you love The Princess Bride, listen to this audible book - it is just as you wish.
