The Courage to Be Disliked shows you how to unlock the power within yourself to become your best and truest self, change your future and find lasting happiness. Using the theories of Alfred Adler, one of the three giants of 19th-century psychology alongside Freud and Jung, the authors explain how we are all free to determine our own future.

Adlerian Psychology Has New Clothes
Revisado: 08-17-24
Some interesting and useful insights can be found in this book although I found myself recoiling at the nihilism that ultimately underpins it - along with some of the other ideas which are at complete odds with the broken, social realities we find ourselves having to function in. The book essentially contains no new ground-breaking material despite its alleged claim of being a "Japanese Phenomenon". It is more accurately a modern renditioning of Austrian psychoanalyst, Alfred Adler's ideas. I am comfortable shaping some of the ideas contained in this book into my life, but as an overarching worldview, it is not without its problems. Humanism has historically failed to deliver what it advertised and my advice is to pluck the good fruit from this book and leave the bad hanging on Adler's tree.

Historia
The Hound of the Baskervilles, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Adapted by Richard Dinnick. Young Dr. Mortimer ventures from Devonshire to Baker Street with news of the death of his friend, Sir Charles Baskerville. Can it really be that the grisly legend of the hound of the Baskervilles might have something to do with the case? Holmes will have none of it, but even he must accept that dark forces are at work. Dark forces that, it seems, Dr. Watson must face alone...afoot!

This dramatisation will have you on the edge of your seat as you follow Watson and Holmes across the fog shrouded moors surrounding Baskerville Hall. An outstanding production which captures the original story with great fidelity.

A difficult story to dramatise.
Revisado: 07-08-20
This dramatisation struggles from the outset and was compounded by thick Scottish accents which were often difficult to understand. Compared to Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island, the production is left floundering on the rocks.

Spellbinding!
Revisado: 07-01-20
A thoroughly magnificent dramatisation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s epic tale. The voice casting in this production is outstanding and will leave you hanging on every delicious word. Supported not in the least by a rollicking score with realistic sound effects, you won’t help but smell the salt in the air and feel the wind upon your face as you embark on this classic journey to Treasure Island.

The oceans of the world are no longer safe. Ships are being attacked and sunk by what survivors describe as a giant sea monster. The United States Government sends the frigate Abraham Lincoln to investigate, carrying renowned scientist Pierre Aronnax in hopes of solving the mystery. They soon encounter the "sea monster", which is actually a submarine, far advanced than anything the world has ever seen - commanded by Captain Nemo.

Surpassed my expectations
Revisado: 06-15-20
This is a difficult story to get right due to the subtle nuances of the characters involved. The cast for this presentation was spot on and the accents very well performed. It develops the intrigue of Captain Nemo so faithfully and does an outstanding job of exploring the undertones in Jules Verne’s book. A great adventure with a good dose of catharsis exploring human nature.

Revisado: 11-22-19
A fantastic little novella. Not too short, not too long but with all the elements of a great story. The narration by Lauren Fortgang was outstanding, with so much character and emotion in every interaction. Her pace and lilt were at times mesmerizing and gave time for me to enjoy the characters.
I laughed and cried and would highly recommend it for both the storyline and the narration.

A brilliant panorama of the ancient world
Revisado: 03-20-19
This book is not just for children - adults will learn much from it too. It will turn even a history novice into a very knowledgeable person in just a few hours! The breadth and scope of content is impressive spanning the first civilisations of Mesopotamia right through to the conversion of Constantine.
It has sufficient depth and pace to keep interest and I loved the vignettes where the reader takes you into great historical moments and the lives of prominent characters of yesteryear.
Unlike most secular books, this one also provides due treatment of the Biblical narrative and its importance in world history. For parents or listeners with sensibilities, It does not delve needlessly into the details of debauchery and depravity which characterised many of these passages of time.
I loved this volume so much and found it so fascinating that I just purchased the next instalment.

Historia
The Tattooist of Auschwitz is based on the true story of Lale and Gita Sokolov, two Slovakian Jews who survived Auschwitz and eventually made their home in Australia. In that terrible place, Lale was given the job of tattooing the prisoners marked for survival - literally scratching numbers into his fellow victims' arms in indelible ink to create what would become one of the most potent symbols of the Holocaust.

Narrated with such sensitivity.
Revisado: 04-03-18
A beautifully respectful retelling of the harrowing life and love of two ordinary humans caught in circumstances outside of their control.
No excess words. None needed.
This ‘story’ (for want of a better word) gave me reason to reflect on the fact that even when it appears we have no power, when choice seems to have been removed far from us, we are still able to choose. We can choose love, compassion, and life until it is taken from us.
Apart from a few minor glitches in audio where recording obviously stopped and restarted, the narration was of a very appropriate speed and tone. Beautifully sensitive to the topic and laden with the emotion that becomes palpable to the listener. This book was not merely read. It was shared.
