Power levels fluctuate and MCs skill is only tied to what the author wants to happen, not what MC is shown prieviously to be capable. The skills he has are randomly forgotten to induce tension in fights that shouldn't be there based on his abilities. Besides the fake tension, no real difficulties are faced and the rest of story is bland retelling of things that happened.

There is also factor that for some reason part of the book is spent on everyone suddenly being interested on their gender and sexual preferences, both for MC and his closest ally. This was in no way forshadowed beforehand and just comes out of nowhere and feels like author tries to fulfill some kind of quota/checkmark both for gender politics and romantic tension.

Also, for some reason the narrator has lost the spark he had before and everything sounds less nuanced and more like a dry read. Not fully so, but notably worse.

overall the quality is way worse from the first book and I hesitate to recommend it. It even feels like the first book can stamd on its own and the next part should be left to the readers fantasy

What started as interesting story about using science to figure out new worlds laws while simultaneously juggling basebuilding, became bug standard wizard adventure with small group.Science gets replaced by magic and logic takes a leap when magic gets involved to a point where science doesn't really matter as it's just magic with fancy name like "quark displacement".

Then there is problem with stats as it falls in the same hole all other stories go when introducing intelligence as the main stat for the MC. The problem is that author can only write the character as smart as the author himself is. So at some point intelligence doesn't increase actual characters intelligence but just raises spell damage and unlocks new spells.

At that point you also start to wonder why basic conclusions that anyone can come up with, are being portrayed as a result of MC being smart because of the raised stat. So you get into a situation where instead of raising MC intelligence, author dumbs down everyone else.

It's a more grounded fantasy book with reincarnated character, that doesn't go out of its way to constantly give even more cheats to the MC than just having memories of other world.

Friends remain relevant, enemies are believable and not everything constantly flows around MC. Things change in the world and some of them only has passing relevance to the actions MC does, but are relevant to the future of the story and world building. It feels like a real world, not just a playground for some OP cheat MC you see so often nowadays.

I also thought it would be hard for me to relate to a female MC, but it was surprisingly easy, as both the narrator and author do a good job characterising her. I think a big part of it is that the MC clearly regressed in maturity by being reincarnated and we see her maturing again along the way rather than being fully established person beforehand.

Would wish there was more exploration of integrating knowledge of our world in to the magic system (as currently only happened few times) but it's also fine as it is.

I just couldn't handle the MC. Felt like everything was handed on a silver platter for him and then I have to feel sorry for him because his daddy was harsh/cold.

I could feel the MC's struggles and effort in other virtual reality game stories, but just can't seem to like this one. Honestly struggled to 2 hours before the books end before dropping it.

The performance of the narrator was good.

Honestly doesn't deserve the 4.7-star rating it currently has. The main character, as always, has played RPG and MMORPG games for years but doesn't know anything when it's actually time to use the same systems that are in place. While this is less noticeable than other similar series it is still there.

Then there is the fact that for a guy who doesn't want to die, his first action is to jump off a mountain, die and lose his OP gear with 0 thought process involved in it and no thought about getting the gear back. You would imagine that no fear of death would now be defining factor for him, but alas he switches back and forth on several issues like this. Promising, to himself, not to blindly follow, then doing so 3 more times in quick succession. Promising to think things through and immediately doing the first instinctual thing possible, etc.

Then there is his blind disregard for personal information, as he freely shares his sad life story with people who have not earned it at swordpoint. Then calls such people friends and mentors... I just can't with this MC, the hypocrisy is too much.

The story is normal. It's not exceptional. I would give it 2,5 stars if I could, but the performance of the narrator raises the quality quite a bit.

Mediocre story with unbelievable characters

The main character constantly displays that he is emotionally a child with childlike decissions. That would be fine if he wasn't a reincarnated king.

This world has classic suicidal bandits, who fight to the last man, making me wonder how they were still in busines up to that point.

Parents who don't even check if their son is actually dead instead of leaving.

A and AA class adventurers that act like it's their first time in a dungeon. And don't display any survival instinct.

MC who is on a railroad of constant strange coincidances that just happen to be there just as he is also there.

The book is mediocre at best. it's 4 star total because the narrator raises the average by 1 star.

The story has rushed pace. improtant details rush by with barely any mention. Feels like MC is pulling stuff out of nowhere with barely any effort. It doesn't help that there are multiple POV to follow with each character barely having rushed summary of their actions. Honestly feels like author is rushing to tick "dungeon core for dummies" notes checkboxes.

It doesn't help that male narrator cosplays as an actual emotionless robot that presents the material in incredibly monotone voice.

At least the female one did decent job with what she had. It felt as if her characters could feel more than boredom.

Still, I don't get how this story got its 4,6 star raiting.

Honest struggle to listen to this. The narrators voice is bland and so boring that it's hard to not get distracted and keep listening.

It doesn't help that the story doesn't know what it wants to do. It eant the main character to be crafter, but as soon as we get second character, all focus is on him and so is crafting.

It's mediocre at best.
